Sorc DD/Tank

Obviously, I wouldn't tank in Trials, so with that out of the way, I've got a couple of questions. Would Breton be a good choice? What armor would I use (I mean, specifically like Brands of Imperium or whatnot)? I want to use something other than sword/shield for the 2nd weapon, should it be DW or 2H? If I used a monster mask, what set would be good, or what pieces from 2 sets would be good? Just a couple of general questions.

I've thought about using classes as something they aren't generally, like Sorc/NB healer, or Warden DD (lol), but I usually have been using them as their recommended roles (sorc DD, Temp heal, DK/Warden tank), so I wanted to actualize this character, and try something new. Even if it's not meta, or even if it's not as good as the other classes. Thanks!

Oh, also, could I make it a mag tank or are tanks just always stam?

If you are doing a Stam Sorc Breton would be an unusual choice. You can make a Mag Tank you just have to be more conservative with your stam or use an Ice Staff/Inner Fire to taunt.

On my Stam Sorc for Vet Dungeons I usually use:

    1) Thunderbug 4 piece heavy and 1 weapon each slot (you could also use Ebon or Akaviri for better group support)
    2) Witchman Jewellery, shield and belt (you could also use Bone Pirate, Draugr Hulk, Hide of Werewolf or Hircine)
    3) Bloodspawn heavy head and light shoulders (you can also use Stormfist or your preferred Stam DD monster set)

Sword and shield is the best option imo for both bars because of the damage reduction you get with the passives but if you want something else dual wield would make sense so you can do more damage and get an AoE damage reduction skill
PUG Life - the true test of your skill

18 characters, 17 max level, at least 1 Stam and 1 Mag of every class, 1 of every race and 1200+ CP

Tanked to Undaunted 9+ Mag and Stam of every class using Group Finder for 90+% of the Vet Dungeon runs

Best tanking classes haven't changed. Argonian, imperial, orc, nord, in that order. Then everything else.

so you want to be DD?
    or to be tank?
or to have one setup for DD, one setup for tank, and switch between the two depending on the situation?
or you want one build that can be DD and tank at the same time?

breton magsorc is good for DD
it might be viable as tank but the race might not be ideal (well you wouldn't be playing sorc as tank if you're looking for the ideal build anyway)

if you want a single build to really serve as both, that's not very feasible.
if you're tanky enough for most vet dungeons, you would be doing 5~10k single target dps at best.
if you're doing 20k+ single target dps, you could only be tanky enough to tank some of the vet dungeons, but not all of them.

It's possible as a sorc to tank/dps MOST vet dungeons on one charachter just fine.

I have an Imperial Stam Sorc dps/tank hybrid who can do just that and pull 10-20k single target (Depending on fight obviously... you are tanking at the same time remember.... regularly get close to 20k so its perfectly possible).

It was based on a comment by @ZOS_Wrobel that he changed surge to be more viable for sorc crit build tanks! ;)

Basically you have two modes... dps and tank. 1H&S main bar for tanking with the usual melee taunt, dark deal, absorb magic, surge etc, and then a dual wield back bar.

On my back bar I have the healing morph of rapid strikes, blood craze, hurricane, trap etc.

For gear I have a few setups, if memory serves the one I'm running at the minute is 5 heavy Nighmothers Gaze (Crafted), 5 Alkosh, and 2 mephala for a bit of a snare and AoE dps.

I've done every vet dungeon on this setup except the last couple of DLC's dungeons which I haven't got around to trying on her yet.

It's quite surprising how tanky the build is though.... It's got excellent self healing, and up to a point you can push DPS to heal yourself further whilst still tanking (Though this is only possible in some situations/dungeons until you just have to tank).

There may be some tanking purists who will frown at such a setup, but as long as you aren't silly and try tanking BloodRoot Hardmode on it then you'll be fine and its a REALLY fun, fast n furious play style that rewards skillful play and provides very fast pledge clears with some decent group buffs through the sets.

    Try this:

Necropotence + Willpower + Infernal Guardian

Slot Inner Fire, and basically go full on DOT mode. Staff choice is up to you, but I'd say run wall of storms.

So yeah, DPS pet sorc, but with *** shields in order to just sponge hits.

I play a character called "Gives Me Wood Elf" because I am a mature and sensible person.

This is pretty awesome, and my front bar, for the most part, except I've got hardened ward and bound ageis on front, and crit surge is on the back bar so it'll heal better with hurricane, steel tornado, and bloodthirst. Thanks, this should really help!

I have such a build: 5 Willow's Path 5 Amberplasm 2 Iceheart S&B front bar Lightning back bar (charged Maelstrom). Works well for dungeons except vBF HM but I won't bring it in trials.

can you “tank” those (standing relatively still), or do you have to kite and roll dodge a lot to survive, when in a 20k+ dps build?
