Your card is DirectX 10.1 compliant. It can't run DX11, which is the current minimum spec for ESO. (Sometime around July 2015, the DX9 and DX10 support was dropped.)

I'm guessing you were one of the players that started at launch and quit playing.
The game has gone through a few major changes in min specs.
In a few months the game will be 64bit only.

Since the most recent Windows 10 update and the first update in December, I have not been able to consistantely run the game. I am getting the same kind of message as the person previously mentioned:

Your DirectX version is unsupported. Get Help:
    https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/32155

After following some directions I checked my "directx" and it is version 12.

Why am I getting this message? Has ESO changed something or is this a Microsoft problem? I really need some help with this issue.

Your GPU (graphics card) doesn't support DX11 or 12 and it doesn't metter if DX12 is installed or not

If you know what is your GPU you can google it and see if it supports DX11/12.

For anyone getting the error “Your DirectX version is unsupported” please make sure to update both DirectX and your video card drivers. You can find more information in the help article linked below.

I'd like to chime in and say I, too, just started getting this error... and I definitely have the most up-to-date drivers and a card that can support DirectX 11. Was able to play just fine last night, but this morning - no restarts, no updates, etc. - I suddenly can't.

I had the same problem this morning. Last night, the game ran just fine, this morning, suddenly, my DirectX version is unsupported. I have DirectX12 so I hardly think that's the issue here. My drivers are also up to date, and restarting my PC fixed it and I was able to run the game.

@ZOS_BillE could you please let the team know that there may be something in the newest Windows update that's causing the game to behave like this? Thank you. :)

that is exactly what is happening to me after i run PTS and then try to run eso.
as soon as i run a repair and then restart my PC it fixes the problem, but the problem only happens after i play the PTS and then try to play eso LIVE.

At a guess: everyone having trouble uses NVIDIA GPUs? It appears the most recent driver set doesn't play well with ESO. Quitting out of ESO sometimes causes the NVIDIA drivers to stop working, based on my poking into error longs, hence the restart being required.

If you run a Nvidia card, it is most likely the recent nvidia driver update. I had the same issue and after talking to nvidia support it seems the new driver update causes an issue with some games.

A work around for this problem is to reboot your computer every time you play. It will work correctly after a fresh reboot. Otherwise to save you playing tag with nvidia customer support, these are the instructions i was given to fix the problem:

    "Thank you for the update.
    >
    > Lets revert back to older driver 391.35 :: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/132838/en-us
    >
    > Using he steps below, and check if the same issue persists
    >
    > - Once the installer wizard begin, accept the license agreement.
    > - Select "Custom (Advanced)" install option and then click Next.
    > - Put a checkmark in the "Perform clean install" option and then click
    > Next.
    > - Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation
    >
    > Looking forward for your reply to assist you further.
    >
    > Regards,
    > Lohith
    > NVIDIA Customer Care "

You should note this is the solution for win 7/8/8.1 64 bit. It appears to support most cards from 400 series up to 10 series(10xx), though i dont see any mobile cards on the list. This solved my problem ive launched the game 7 or 8 times without needing a reboot.

I am having the same issue. Last night (5/3) I was able to play fine.
Woke up this morning and got the same DirectX message.
I have DirectX 12. Followed the ZoS link, but didn't help at all.
FYI~ DirectX is updated thru Windows Updates. Copied this from Windows....
"DirectX 11.3 and 12 are included with these Windows versions. There is no stand-alone package for these versions of DirectX."

Updates will be available through Windows Update. There is no stand-alone package for these versions of DirectX.
ATM, I am up-dating my Windows. Then I will check my Nividia updates, and try again.
Will let ya know if it works for me too... :)

The problem seems to happen when you quit using the in-game quit option. Ending the process via the Windows Task Manager avoids the driver dump, at least for me.

I had that issue (directX) with any game and that so called DRIVER update LOOP with the drivers 397.31 installed (where it displayed that the drivers were available to download/install even so they were already installed, after each restart). Do not install those drivers yet until an official fix is out from nvidia. If you already have...then follow steps to rollback the driver to a previous version.

hotfix for some nvidia users is already out, it mainly affects 1060 users, I have 1080 and new nvidia drivers, with no problems.

I did have issues with the new windows update though, so may be due to that and nvidia drivers for some of you.

Ok. I had 2 Widows updates that some how didn't auto update.
Updated windows, ran a driver update tool, restarted computer, got right in to ESO.
Suggestion.. Have the "Help" page on DirectX aloso include checking Windows updates..

    2) went to elderscrolls online for help in the PC Technical Support Section.

    3) post problem and asked specifically for a developer to comment and help us.

    result:

called a jerk and other names by forum users and insulted by them because i did not want their answer and instead sought out and still seeking developer / eso tech dev answer.

As said, there recently was a hotfix for some nvidia users who had issues, never mind many who had issues with the very recent windows update, so get the hotfix or rollback.

There was no insult to you, the way you spoke to Anotherone however, was arrogant.

    I merely called a spade a spade.
