Hey,

Would be awesome if we could equipable spears (one-handers) and get a spear weapon skill line.

I used to wield a spear and shield in the old days...long ago... last time was as a member of the sacred band of thebes, but nvm this.

    I agree with the spear thing! But then, I would, wouldn't I? https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/371862/additional-weapon-skill-ideas-mk-ii ;)

BtW, kudos for the historical reference for... 'handling spears'... :p;)

I'm strictly a melee player, so yeah, I'd love that.

I'd be happy with just a really long stick. (non-magic) Like the one the purple ninja turtle uses.

Without mounting troops the spears are way less important in war considering they shine in mount-charging and anti-mount-charging...

It would be cool if we can have spear and skills that use while mounting tho

Been there, thought of that! ;)
And yeah, it would definitely be cool if we had the option to ride into combat as lanciers or dragoons...

In another game, their Warden class uses spear and shield and throws javelins. I loved it. It's the only game that I know of that did it right by using the spear as a thrust weapon instead of a slashing weapon. I would LOVE it if ESO introduced a thrusting spear skill line, especially if we could use a shield.

Spears could be a unique skill line that can be morphed/used for either 1h & shield or two handed.
they would have their own animations so they wouldn't be apart of pre-existing skill lines, BUT the spear skill line itself could be specialized by the player to either use it as a two-handed weapon OR equip it with a shield.

This is Necro'd in light of the recent Murkmire dev panel that showed NPCs training with Spears, and them proceeding to say that we won't get spears

My first mmo character was a spear wielding “stamina” based healer in UO. I play a Stamplar here. Of course I’d like a spear

I had a centaur & aracoix spear huntress in Shadowbane myself. Would love to have Spears in ESO.

I happened to ask Rich about this at the E3 meet-up, and he said there were technical limitations that are currently preventing them from adding any new weapon types at this time. I, too, long for a game filled with spears, but I'm not holding my breath. Focusing on the things we know we're getting/can get, and if we ever get new weapon types down the line, then I can be pleasantly surprised.

There aren't any technical limitations preventing it. If ZOS can add new emots to the crown store, they can add new combat animations. It is just a matter of time and effort that is needed.

    spartan class I guess?

it's kinda like gay marrage imo: doesn't affect me so sure, knock yourself out.

Say NO to Crown Crates. Crown Crates are Loot Boxes. Loot Boxes are gambling. Zenimax makes enough money off us.
ESO+ is part of the "Games as a service" trend. A trend that needs to die. Subscribe only when you need Crowns for DLC.
Say no to "radiant" junk quests replacing proper side content and the dumbing down of our favorite franchises.

Well, personally I want something like a dwemer gun or blunderbuss, so I'd be ok with them adding spears

Dragon Break is an explanation for how they have so many characters be the main character. In other words all versions of the Dragonborn, Hero of Kvatch, and Nevarine are cannon. Also ESO works hard to make sure things still fit with Elder Scrolls.

Guns would not fit in Elder Scrolls.

Dragon Break is not an excuse for guns.

That sounds like a flimsy excuse. What would have changed between early development and now that they can't add new weapon types?
But I'm sure he's aware players want this, as it's an often requested feature. Frankly ESO needs something more juicy like this, all we got this year was jewelry crafting and that's hardly game-changing.

I also don't really know how to play an Argonian without spears. Murkmire would have been perfect for his ...
Alandrol Sul: He's making another Numidium?!?
Vivec: Worse, buddy. They're buying it.

I mean, he literally could have just said "We have no plans to add new weapon types at this time." Or even, "That's not something that I can talk about right now" -- I'm pretty sure he actually did say that to some questions.

I want spears too, you guys. But I'm sure you'll forgive me for taking the word of the creative director over yours on the engine limitations.

    Spears are cool.

Vivic would use a spear if they were in game, that's how cool they are.

It doesn't make sense for the series to remove spears.
In medieval warfare they were the best.
    • Mid-range reach advantage.
    • Hits harder than swords (weight of force over arc/lunge)
    • Great penetration.
    • Maintain some (safe) distance.
    • Can be thrown.
    • Strong block using both hands.
    • More reward for skill than swords do in wielding.

The only big disadvantage is being in closed quarters and that they are more 2H.

Technically we have spears with the Adriatic spear line.

As for a weapon like it wouldn’t be like what OP has described. A spear and shield line indicates tanking so it would and should have lower dps.

Regardless, I cannot recall a spear as a weapon in TES. Might have missed it or drawing a blank.

Morrowind has spears and melee staffs/staves whatever. Is more slashy less jabby thrusty though
