Server is Unstable

I am getting random disconnects at least 2-3 times per 1 hour of log in time in the game. Server instability is a really bad issue. It used to be more on the PVP servers but now it's bleeding into the PVE areas. The user experience is really taking a hit when I can't even stay logged in. Please ZOS, pay your server bills and consider upgrading to better ones. 10 million copies sold translates into $600 million in earnings, you could at least pay for what amounts to the electricity bill aka servers.

    It's the player bases fault.

    IF after 3 years of unstable servers someone expects something else, it is absolutely they're fault. Players expectations are not ZOS's fault.

    @ZOS_GinaBruno This has been an issue since CWC came out. I have run the Game Consultant, I have opened all ports that should be open on my router, the game consultant does not show any issues anywhere, however, a tracert shows a perfect trace with about a 51ms ping up to the 13th hop where it just times out. The 11th and 12th hops happen to be an akamai server. Here is a copy of my tracert (with the more localized ips hidden) which I have run three times with the same results (The pings vary the slightest bit between runs as is normal for a tracert.) The only conclusion that I can come up with is that there is a problem somewhere within the server or the client:

    The patcher traces that I run are perfect without any timeouts, the game consultant agrees with my above tracert. If there is a different IP or DNS name that I should be tracing for better accuracy please let me know and I will be happy to provide the data from it.

    Some additional information:
    I have attempted to do a repair which did not find any issues.
    I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game to a different hard drive.
    I have made sure that all drivers are up to date.
    I have followed all instructions on opening the UDP and TCP ports on my router.
    I have opened both the launcher and client for incoming and outgoing connections on my firewall.
    I have flushed my dns and hard reset my router.
    I have turned off and on all addons that I use.

    None of these has helped to solve the issue. For me there is no warning, I am not experiencing high ping or low FPS. Sometimes my character will simply go invisible and I am unable to utilize any skills, however, I can still see the rest of my trial group continuing the fight until I go back to the login screen without any error messages or messages telling me that I have been disconnected. At other times, I am unable to utilize some skills but others appear to work fine and then I go straight to the login screen, again without any notifications at all. This tends to occur during boss fights in trials, I have seen it happen in vet and normal MoL, AS, HRC, AA, SO and normal HoF. I have only had one such disconnect during a dungeon running trials (I cannot recall which dungeon it was.)

    If there is any additional information that I can provide to have this issue resolved please let me know. I will not submit a support ticket because support tells me to do all the things that I have already done. I would really like to see this escalated to someone who understands what is happening without reading a script and copying and pasting a reply.

    Terms and Conditions say otherwise: it's a case of taken your responsability. And that's where ZOS does not deliver!

    This is the same approach SWTOR took. Now after forever they realize they need to upgrade their servers and datacenters, it only took most of the population laeving to wake them up . Eventually there wll be a mass exodus and it wont be because the content is bad, or because of our hardware / software. Itill because ZoS doesnt care to upgrade their hardware and software.

    The gaming industry is the only industry that can release half finished or flat out broken products and not be forced into a recall.

    I remember when I used to play WOW, there were never disconnect or server performance issues. When a new patch or new content came out, we didn't have these kinds of issues. Content was playable. In contrast, ZOS repeatedly releases patches and content and every time the server and playability gets affected. As a player base we have to demand more from ZOS.

    I have a similar situation here, but it started months ago. My ping increased dramatically with several crazy spikes rendering the game unpredictable, alongside random disconnects. Tested, and my packets were getting lost at around the 12th hop, although I do not believe this was the same server as you're indicating. Did troubleshooting, including ultimately replacing hardware and the line, without luck. I ran a dozen tests on my line quality, from bandwidth to jitter and packet loss, and tested it on multiple other titles. I had no problems.

    On a hunch, I also tried running tracert from different places, devices and connections around my city. They all showed the same result: things were getting lost, even with other ISPs and devices. I submitted a ticket with this information, went through several agents who weren't particularly familiar with these problems, and eventually got a 'technical expert.'

    He said it was my fault for living in Asia and closed the ticket.

    The situation continues today. I can occasionally connect smoothly for a few hours, but it always deteriorates eventually.

    So... good luck with that.

    Doubt ZOS will ever fix it. Not ever. Their current people for whatever reason can't fix it, and I don't think ZOS is willing to up their investments into programmers so.

    I have read nowhere on their support site that there was an issue with ESO and NVidia though I have had that issue with other games in the past. Can you point me to the post that tells me where I should be running an old graphics driver rather than the latest so that I can give that a shot?

    As to the networking, I am hard lined in and using the same gigabyte card that I've used since April when I began playing. There have been no and are no firmware or driver updates for my card if anything changed that makes ESO and ONLY ESO incompatible with my nic card then it was something on ESO's end, not mine and it was not mentioned in any patch notes.

    I literally had 0 disconnect issues prior to CWC, this started after CWC was released. I have not changed any hardware though I will admit that I always run the latest graphics drivers as is generally recommended by any game. So again, I have to assume that it was something that changed in the coding in the game that has started causing this issue for me.

    pretty sure it wasnt on the forums. i recall googling it but did a quick google then and nothing showed up on the first page of results that talked about it. it was a little while ago. but some people, me included, dont update graphics drivers very often. in the case in question, i had to revert to an older driver at the time. im no longer running that version though. i know iv updated since.

    LOL another weekend another thread whining about server performance.

    Going on year 3 (go ahead search the forums). They arent fixing it, if they could they would have. Every time they tell you they are trying to its a half truth.

    If you expect there to be no lag in ESO, you are a complete fool. Im not defending ZOS here, but come on folks, what you think you, your post is going to be the epiphany moment for them?

    I love the way other games work fine from asia when connected to EU or US servers but then ZOS just blames their player to expect the same quality (more or less) as other games then blames their geographic location

    You know it's not your connection when you're pvping with a group of friends on Mic and like a chain reaction you hear "ahh I'm disconnecting" "same" "laaagggg " etc... only to have your game freeze and dc shortly after.

    If we can't fix this give us a new cyrodiil load screen or a minigame while we wait. I could draw a photocopy of that load screen with my eyes closed I've seen it so much.
    I don't normally use daggers, but when I do, I choose dos Lekis.

    I am going to assume OP is on PC since he did not say in his rant.

    If you are getting disconnected, set back to login screen, then the issue is very likely not on Zos's end.

    It is likely anywhere between your networking card to something with your ISP, though it could have to do with an issue along the path your data flows.

    Yes, there have been times the server has been wonky and many get disconnected, but that is certainly not a daily norm, fairly rare.

    But yes, it is more fun to complain to Zos about issues like this than make sure everything is working correctly on your end. It is no fun dealing with your service provider for hours across days getting things fixed.

    The person that commented on crazy ping that started a few months ago, that has to do with the added DDOS protection, though I have not had issues with that recently, well, within less than a minute from loggin in it seems to settled back down to the 90-120 ping I normally see.
