How do you feel when you delete a character?

If only I could get back all the money I've spent on characters I've deleted... but part of the enjoyment of the game is leveling a new character, and many times after I get one leveled, I lose incentive to play them anymore. At the same time, I cannot stand having slow mounts or low inventory space, which is where most of that money goes to upgrading.

As for how I feel when deleting them... after clearing out their inventory... hitting the DELETE is no big deal.

Glad I'm not the only one who feels terrible when about to delete a character haha.
Yes I deleted a couple of silly ones that only existed as a joke or test, with barely an hour on them. But a few were a little more levelled, but just not used. And don't really want to get more character slots. 8 is plenty.

Because i knew that character was a mistake by me. I like erasing mistakes.

I think what i just said might cause controversy because... well, you know... it generally sounds like an ideology.

Haven't needed to delete a max level character yet, but mules are fair game. I just clean out their inventory and delete.

As I stated in my reply in Op's post about How Many 50's... Two hours ago I did, in fact, delete the character I mentioned. He turned out being a replica of my first character. I decided I wanted to create a healer as I did not have one. I could have re-specced, but Khajit Nightblades aren't entirely as skilled at healing as Breton Templars...

Saving that 14th slot in case ZOS adds a new class or race in the future without allowing us to buy an additional slot or two. Which would be ridiculous if they did not allow it, but iirc, Morrowind chapter only allowed us to buy one extra slot. Though I am not expecting ZOS to add a class or race for quite some time.

Back to the question... Even though the character I just deleted did not turn out to be worth keeping, it was still hard to delete him. Even though I barely played him once he maxed out at 50, I felt like I was betraying or killing something I cared about and put time into.

I have deleted so so so many max level characters before getting to the point I was like "right, when the warden comes out you make her and stick with her nomatter what!!"... normally I used to feel hopeful that the next character will be "the one" and be excited to do all the quests and stuff again.

I have 10 toons, 11 counting the one lonely khajiit on the EU server and I never deleted any of them, I made them for a purpose and they haven't given me a reason to off them

I created a couple of mules early in the game without regard to what race and class they were. Later I started feeling bad for them that they were doomed to sit inside a bank and hold gear for my characters out and about in the world having fun and adventures.
Eventually I replaced them with characters that could go out and play.

Going off on a tangent. I will kill monkeys in the game just to watch them pirouette before they die but felt really bad when I killed a fox. So monkeys still die but that first dead fox was my last.

Good. Any characters deleted I have not enjoyed playing. Latest one was magicka warden. Did not enjoy the class. Was surprised my former warden hit level 35.

Bout to delete my stamblade because I f’ng suck at the power. 660cp and decent gear, just no damage and no protection. He dies more than any other character I have. I feel like a noob on him.

I'm an altaholic. I've made and deleted hundreds of characters in dozens of games, including plenty of max level ones, ones with fully fleshed out personalities and backstories etc. It doesn't bother me because I'm always sure I want to delete them (and in some cases I knew when I made them that I'd delete them eventually).

Besides it's not necessarily the end of the character. There's always the chance that I'll re-use them. One of my ESO characters started out as a throw-away character in Dragon Age Origins but I liked her so much she reappeared in DA2, Skyrim and now ESO. (Of course her class has changed, slightly from warrior to dragon knight and her backstory needed tweaking, she's now the daughter of a Jarl rather than a Teyrn, but she's essentially the same character.)

I have deleted 2 toons, and that is because I wanted to switch alliances. Now that I am firmly in AD, all 8 of my toons are AD, and I have 1 magicka of every class, and 1 stamknight and 1 bowden.

Honestly I was a little conflicted, but I just really hated the other alliances, so I was like, cant stay. I deleted a few others too over the years, but only 2 that i really put time into.

I deleted a mule who'd never been anywhere but the bank to make a Warden, and it was still aggonizing to pull the trigger.

And the Warden has been parked at the bank ever since that day.

I feel a little bad when I'm about to delete one, when I'm clearing out their inventory, selling most of their belongings and banking the rest. It's like the character is getting ready to kill himself, or something.
I cringe saying it that way, too, because one of my high school friends killed himself at age 18, so I'm not making light of that at all. It's terribly tragic.

But at least these are just cartoon characters. I've deleted several, but the one I really regret deleting was a cute red-haired Wood Elf nightblade. I wish I'd saved her face specs so I could re-create her face now, but it's gone forever. Ever since then, I've made sure to write down the face and body specs of every single character I make, as I make them, just in case.

Yeah alliance can be quite a big part of it, especially if you just feel an affinity to one regardless of the races, this is where the any race any alliance comes in, which I recently purchased, and should have done a long time ago haha.

No, I don't "feel" for my characters, I get bored of them and drop them, I keep my main guy updated and interesting. (It's an Elder Scroll game, why on earth would I enjoy having multiple toons?)

I've stripped mine down to their undies while inside a bank. When you see someone in their undies next to a bank teller, you know that character is getting the chop.

IMO it's pretty inefficient deleting characters I have invested in game currency and time in, even if they end up as pure crafting and storage chars for extended periods. For example I have a magicka DK I created 1.5 years and it has mostly functioned as bank extension for most of that time. I only leveled it to 50 a couple of weeks ago during the event but I made it a crafter for writs for the time being.

I will level 2 chars during the events from now on until I have them all to 50, then advance them as I find the time to do it. Only 4 of them were created specifically as storage since they replicate a class/build combo already present in another char but they will get played at some point in the future probably.

I almost rage-deleted some of my main chars a few times when I got burned out and fed up with the game but I changed my schedule to relieve the pressure and ended up reconsidering. If I end up deleting one I will probably delete/destroy all over several days, including gear, bank and craft bag contents as well as in game currency. But as I said, that will be when leaving the game, which I don't plan on doing any time soon.

Nah, just kidding. But I haven't had to delete one in well over a year. 14 slots is a lot.

@Gargath No remorse Haha, but yes I understand that side too. I had too many "copies" of my main at one point, simply because I had no clue what else to play like at the start of playing ESO. So some of those were removed, or changed to have a role other than DD DK

It's an Elder Scrolls game, why wouldn't you enjoy having multiple toons? (just because you can get all the skills in Oblivion/Skyrim/etc, doesn't mean you have to. I pick what kind of character it'll be when I create it, and generally stick with that. So I've had stealth archers, sword&boarders, two-handed berserkers.....)

Hmm. I think I've deleted one character, at like lv3-4, because it's face didn't look right. Feel? A bit annoyed that I didn't get my character creation right, I suppose. /shrug
I still have empty character slots & only have 2 max level, so I haven't had any reason to delete a high-level char.

I haven't deleted a character since probably launch when I created and re-created a guy a couple times until I felt like I got him right, but that was super-low level deletes.

14 characters. (Plus one on NA server). Only ever deleted one & that was a random gen mule I had zero attachement to.
Could not bear to delete any of them as takes me so fecking long to think of appropriate names & muck about in character creation. May not have played some for a long while but then appreciate them more when do.
