I cut my teeth on Ultima Online, Asheron's Call, and EverQuest. Before those, MMO's were the old BBS games back in the late 80's. So, yeah... I've been at this since before MMORPG was even a genre of video game.

No, this is not my first MMO.

Not my first, but definitely my last. I'm just getting to old to play a game that requires more maintenance from me than my real life. Trying to stay caught-up is an exhausting grind that simply is not fun. There are a couple of people at ZOS that are doing their best to suck the fun out of this game and keep it a boring grind fest.

My first was Ultima Online. I also tried Runescape and Everquest of course but couldn't get into them.

I quit that game because I started working part-time and was going to university and wasn't able to commit as much time as it needed, especially not on a regular basis so I could meet up and play with an established group and participate in the wider community, which is what it really needed.

I thought I'd never be able to play an MMO because of that, but while I was at university my brother introduced me to Guild Wars 1 - a game with no subscription (meaning I didn't have to predict how much time I'd have over the next month or risk wasting money buying time in a game I'd never be able to play) and with a number of other features that made it ideal for what would later come to be called 'casual gaming'.

By the time ESO was announced I'd tried several more games (City of Heroes, World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online etc.) but the only other one I'd stuck with was Guild Wars 2.

I played the ESO betas but for various reasons didn't actually buy the game until the mandatory subscription was dropped. I've been here pretty much ever since, but still with the aforementioned unpredictable free time.

First was WoW (vanilla thru Cataclysm).

Others that I spent real time on include City of Heroes, Star Trek Online, SWTOR, TERA, and Secret World Legends.

Toyed around lightly with a number of f2p's over the years (D&D Online, LotRO, Forsaken World, Neverwinter, Sword of the New World, Rusty Hearts, Vindictus, Shaiya, Dragon Nest, silly pretty Eastern games )


Currently, I keep getting dragged back in by f2p/b2p games having events and/or interesting updates: ESO & SWL are both doing Halloween. In November, STO will start it's winter event.... whee? Non-sub games make it too easy to get sucked back in....

First was Runescape. Then Perfect World. Followed by World of Warcraft. Then Guild Wars 2. Then Wildstar. A little bit of Tera (like a few months of Tera). FFXIV. Oh and there was a month of BDO in here or there. Planning to return to FFXIV at some point. ESO is my new GW2 - aka not too demanding MMO that I can explore at my own pace and make many alts in. So yeah, I'm looking at good 2-3 years ahead of me of ESO? Might be more if they don't go the Heart of Thorns route and turn the game upside down?

No, this is not my first MMO.

This would be my second MMORPG. First being Runescape in like 2003-2004 when I was like 13-14 maybe cant really remember. After that I went strictly consoles cause my pc was ***. Consoles never really offered anything close to an MMORPG that I am aware of until ESO. I was a huge fan of the Elder Scrolls series so I decided to give it a try and haven't looked back.
