Tavern mini games!!

So...there are some characters playing dice under a bridge in Bal Mora, proving that dice exists in tamriel. Please bring this and other tavern games for us to play in taverns for gold against other players. Maybe even bring elder scrolls legends in as a card game to attract those players.

    No !!

Seriously though, the only way I could see this being implemented is if it were instanced, so there wouldn't be 30 people standing around watching two people play a freaking dice or card game. It would need to be done similarly to duels, except you wouldn't be allowed to plunk down a gaming table wherever the hell you want.

There's plenty of tarvens in game though and we are already instanced. But yes we really need mini games

This is exactly the sort of fun, casual, immersive
gameplay an mmo developer would never add to their game. Too many would complain about it's "drawing resources from things that 'matter'". It reminds me of arguments I see in WoW, where people say it would "cost Blizzard a raid tier to develop x".

No one is saying there aren't multiple interpretations of the lore, and we're not arguing that ESO did it "wrong".

We're arguing that they decided to go for the most boring, mundane, seen-before interpretation possible. Like they almost always do, unless they can ride on the coat-tails of past games.

That's not what I mean. That just has to do with server allocation. Think about how interacting with merchants, bankers, etc. works. Once you've interacted with them, your interface focuses on your menu, but you still have to fight through a crowd to get to them, and once in, you can still hear all of the riff-raff going on around you. Tavern games would need to be different from that, or it would be too annoying to enjoy.

Yes! This has been suggested before and I'll always add my enthusiastic support of this idea, any time it's raised. Card games like hearts, spades..... dice games...

Actually I'm in favor of anything that makes the game more immersive. Probably why I like housing so much.

    been saying this for years.

mini games, darts, dice, gambling, fist fights, drinking, hearing gossip for quests to go on to uncover secret motifs and treasure, etc.

taverns should be a social centre for the game- in all mmo's and rpgs they are. look at witcher 2, 3. i would go to those taverns and hang and thats a single player game. really think this should be a priority- the game really lacks the immersive RP and social element that keeps mmos going

I definitely would want to see various tavern games in ESO!

There could be, say, two out of a dozend various tavern games in each tavern, one for playing against an NPC champion, the other free to play against another player... different ones in every tavern, so one taven might have NPC armwrestling and a PC card table, the next might have a NPC card table and PC dartboard, the next an NPC drinking contest and PC armwrestling, the next an NPC dartboard and PC levitation-tug-or-war, the next... you get the idea, right?

Each game would not happen in-world, but be a minigame screen, with nothing to see for bystanders (which would likely make the server load a bit less - for most games, it would also be realyl hard to make out I would think) until one side wins and the victory/loss animations show everyone who did.

Bonus points for games that take character differences into account... I would love it if high stamina characters had an advantage in physical games while high magica characters had an edge in magical games, high heatlh characters getting a head up in endurance games and even if "big and tall" characters had an advantage in games depending on ohysical strength like armwrestling...

    My own recommendations would be:

    1. Have the events be short and repeatable with XP/gold rewards and also with achievements for successfully completing something 10, 50, and 100 times. Or 5, 15, 30 times. Or 10, 100, 200 times. Depends on the event, but you get the idea. This encourages players to come to inns for as long as they want without feeling like they have to stay a long time to get anything out of it. If the events are fun, have decent rewards, and unlock achievements with funny/clever titles, people will still visit inns more and stay longer.

    2. Have some events be universal, and others rare (original new events or unique versions of universal events). Drinking contests, patterned after the event already present at Geirmund's Hall in The Rift, could be universal. Others could be rare, only spawning at certain times like the Lightbringer, Crimes Pays, Give to the Poor, and I Like M'aiq achievements. The rare ones encourage people to stop more often at different inns. Have NPC comments-in-passing come up if you get the full achievement series for one of the event types ("I heard you can really hold your mead! You're no milk-drinker!").

    3. Have a focus on NPC events. That isn't to say no player vs player contests should be available, but if most or all inn events require other players to try/complete the concept will flop. Some players prefer to be solo all of the time, and some play at odd hours. Having fun, rewarding events (see #1) that have some rare, achievement based elements mixed in (see #2) will get people into the inns. But if I go in a certain inn off-hours and no one is there or they are busy, I don't want to have to wait around. Certainly though, have one or two events that players can do together with some nice rewards.

As for the event types/categories I would endorse:

    - Bar Brawls. These would be fists only, no ability bar, and without pushover NPCs. You wouldn't be 100-0. You'd have to work for the wins and lose a fair amount. Special/rare version would involve getting drunk first as part of the NPC's challenge as you do in some fights in Ebonheart. The drunk versions would be like rare spawns and have their own achievement. Another rare version would be special named bar brawler champion types that are particularly tough and spawn randomly.
Rewards: XP, Gold, Credit Toward Achievement(s)

    - Drinking Contests. Like Geirmund's Hall include a mechanic that allows you to not pass out (like eating food every so many drink) but with fast/hard drinking NPCs competing at the same time to make it a challenge. This one could include an option for multiple players to join in after the event is triggered but the NPCs would still compete.
Rewards: XP, Gold, Credit Toward Achievement

    - Gambling. Something simple that is easy to follow with text prompt and a basic graphics display but that requires some strategy and luck, like a slightly more sophisticated version of rock-paper-scissors. It should have a chance to make a mistake/lose a round at least twice before the event ends with the player winning or losing, like picking a master lock on a door or chest. Have it be a single game so players can learn/practice it and work on the achievement anywhere in Tamriel.
Rewards: XP, Gold, Credit Toward Achievement

    - Singing. Again, goes back to Geirmund's Hall (and every karaoke night in a bar ever). You pick up a job as an entertainer and have a choice to get a drink (or two, or three, or... the bottle... what was I you me?) before you proceed. You then get a glance at the lyric sheet and begin. The more you have to drink the greater the potential rewards but also the less time you have to read the lyrics at the start and the faster the text prompts go by (if you miss one the default is "..."). The more accurate you are the higher the reward.

So getting tanked and hitting every lyric is a big pay day. Also the drunker you are the blurrier the lyric sheet is at the start. The song book from which your selection is drawn is quite large and some songs are region specific. Achievements for completing songs, completing songs totally wasted, completing songs perfectly, completing songs perfectly while totally wasted, and a single achievement for gloriously blowing a song while totally wasted are included.
Rewards: XP, Gold, Credit Toward Achievement(s)

    INN FEATURES

As for features other than humorous NPC dialogue and being able to buy food and drink or prepare food and drink:

Rent a room for enlightenment bonus. Log out for the night (or at least so many hours) in a room you've rented at the inn and find that your enlightenment bonus has been magnified when you log back in.

Player Guild recruitment board. Click to search guilds by categories and name (level 50 only, crafting, trading, raiding, PvP, etc)

Innkeeper quests. Like prior TES games for an expanded, One Tamriel.

ESO really needs things like this. It is extremely easy to get bored out of your mind in this game.

Right now, pretty much all we can do is predictable PVE quests and then just grind and grind and grind for materials/gear. You know what happens after you grind for those? You grind something else.

This is something I suggested before on other MMOs forums, people agreed but I know for sure the devs won't bother with those even that will be nice to have more social features, guild competitions, or just something to do. But whatever, I'm going to post some stuff I have in my perfect ESO:

Brawls: Your stats and gear has no impact. Your skill bar is replaced with a special one that has some had to hand moves. It's all skill, not build based on weeks of grinding.

A cad game similar to blackjack or pazaak from KOTOR.

Races: needs at least 2 players in a group to start it. Stamina doesn't matter, but powerups and avoiding certain obstacles will decide the outcome of it.

Dices: just a simple game of dices

Archery: similar to an event I saw in WoW (haven't played it too much)

Frog race: Not like that quest in Auridon, but you instead control or get turned into a frog

Arm wrestling: two players are trying to hit the sweetspot on a bar to defeat their each other.

Become a bard: some hit the notes game

I know the races can't be done in a inn, but hey. Also will be nice to have some minigames in the houses too. I know people doing amazing jump puzzles and mazes in their homes, but chilling with a card game will be nice too.

Your suggestions are nice. What ESO needs is meat on the bones. I've played the game since Beta – on and off, obviously – and it just feels very empty. The world is not exciting to explore or immerse yourself in.

We have quests, mobs and various dungeons, but not a fleshed out and immersive world. We need activities, paid jobs, unique rewards, etc.
