Dragon Knight Standard

I really enjoy the change to the shifting standard morph but after playing with it for a while, it has begun to feel like a chore having to constantly move it. Especially when it comes to PvP.

One problem that I am running into is the fact that the recasting of the standard shares the global cool down with all other abilities. When enemies are constantly moving around (PvP), in order for you to keep your ultimate effective you need to recast it to the new location which prevents you from casting other abilities. If you are chasing someone, having to constantly drop the standard really becomes useless since you cannot effectively cc them without losing the effect from the standard. Imagine if nightblades had to constantly recast eye of the storm to move it. On top of that, the enemy can easily kite you with snares and roots since the dragon knight does not have a snare removal. My point is that in a highly mobile game, it seems pretty redundant to have such a high costing ultimate a ground-based aoe ability.

I think one of the problems with dragon knights is the fact that they are choosing cheaper ultimate's because the more expensive ones are simply not worth saving the ultimate. Dragon Knight Standard does not do as much damage as eye of the storm, it's not as mobile even with the changes to shifting standard, and the effects of damage reduction/defile can already be obtained elsewhere.

One solution would be to make the base dragon knight standard a player-based aoe ability (similar to eye of the storm). For example, the standard could be mounted on the dragon knights back, which would logically make sense. Eye of the storm already exists as a high damage player-based aoe ability, therefore the dragon knight standard should serve a different purpose as a player-based aoe ability. Sure it can still do some damage, but it doesn't have to be to much. Let me remind you that this is the base dragon knight standard.

As for the morphs this is where you really can define the dragon knight as the "stand your ground" class. You could basically apply any already existing buff to the morphs such as major protection/defile/maim/mangle, etc, or you could come up with something new and interesting. You could have one morph a "team focused" morph, that for example, applies major protection to allies within the standard for the duration of the ultimate, and there could be a more offensive morph that for example increases damage. As far as new and interesting here's what I came up with;

Defensive/ Team Focused
  • Applies major defile and major maim.
  • Immediately removes all snares and roots from the dragon knight and allies, and then prevents further effects for the duration of the standard.
  • Applies major heroism (3 ult per sec) to the dragon knight and minor evasion, expedition, protection, vitality to allies within the standard.
  • Absorbs all disabling effects targeted upon allies for the duration of the standard. The effects are temporarily disabled when the dragon knight is disabled.

Offensive/ Player Focused
  • Speeds up the dragon knights damage over time abilities.
  • Increases the base damage of the ultimate and increases the damage of damage over time effects.
  • Causes any of the dragon knights damage over time effects to spread to all enemies within x amount of meters.
  • Prevents any of the dragon knights damage over time abilities from being cleansed/purged for the duration.

How does it fair now that you can't generate ultimate? That's almost a deal breaker. Plus a 250 cost. 200 cost with the ability to generate ultimate is decent however it's still almost useless because people will just move out. Some dummies won't but the majority will. Useless af. I just dont understand Wrobel's decisions sometimes. So many useless skills we have as DKs.

Increase range, reduce cost to 175.
We don't need to copy EotS.
EotS has a stupid morph that should have never existed

    My ideal Standard:

Shifting Standard is an AoE centered on the DK that grants all allies within 12m Major Heroism. Use: DKs to vanguard into enemy forces in PvP; alternative to Warhorn in PvE.

Standard of Might is a placed ground effect that acts as an unbreakable stamina negate. Use: PvP.

Both of these, I think, would be powerful and still have a high cost, but would be worth the ultimate price and give DKs better PvP group utility. Since neither is really used in PvE, it doesn't hurt the PvE side and Shifting Standard might actually be worth using in PvE.

I like the idea of standard being a "stamina negate" but i think it'd be cool to make it a disarm. It disables ALL weapon line skills and passives but make it only when someone uses the shackle synergy.
