Maintenance for the week of January 20:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – January 20
• NA megaservers for maintenance – January 22, 4:00AM EST (9:00 UTC) - 9:00AM EST (14:00 UTC)
• EU megaservers for maintenance – January 22, 9:00 UTC (4:00AM EST) - 14:00 UTC (9:00AM EST)

EU maintanence time: from midday into the afternoon. Why?

Sorry if this topic has been discussed to death before... But I'm curious why this update time from 10 UTC has been chosen? In europe UTC 10 is either 11 or later. I think there must still be quite a good deal of players at this time. Early morning, like from 5 in the morning, would have been much much less interruptive wouldn't you think? I mean how many plays ESO at 5 in the morning?

If I have to guess then I would say it's cheaper to get technicians to run maintanence during work hours than early hours?

But why? It's EU servers, are you saying they somehow are doing the maintanence on EU location servers from the US? But that would be in the middle of night or early morning in the US now, I don't see any benefit for ZOS to do that.

There's no cost difference in getting people to work during the night than during the day. Its all American timezone based.
If you have an issue with it, you can contact ZOS, but you'll just be tooting the same horn most non-Americans have been tooting since day 1.

I honestly am starting to think ZOS doesn't care much about the EU players. (No I'm not ranting) I just would like to know their thinking behind these maintenance times in the EU.

I know for a fact they can take both servers offline separately, as they have done a few weeks back, when apparently there was something going on on the NA server.
So why not separate the maintencance times and also do the maintenance for EU in the night time?

    I just don't get it...

I usually get hireling mail and feed horses at 7/8 am (EU - CET) while I get ready for work, so if the maintenance was moved to 5 or so, it would put a damper on my morning...

Point is, whatever the time ZOS chooses, someone will always be inconvenienced. At least they're not doing it in international holidays anymore (May 1st 2014... sigh).

and if i had to guess i would think no matter what time you shut the servers down then someone somewhere on this great big blue planet of ours will be inconvenienced by it, so if they shut them down in the early hours while you are sleeping someone else from somewhere else would be coming to the forums and suggesting shutting them down at 10UTC because thats what time he/she goes to bed,

In short: can't cater for everyone, Its immaterial whether the techs work through their night or their day.

That's most likely the one seeing as they do them at once now. They used to do them separately but stopped about a year ago.
Otherwise no one has details for you as ZOS doesn't really talk about it. Most people just invent their own conspiracy "grr ZOS" theory and rant post so, dunno.

Mate if you think they don't care about Eu, you should move to Australia.

Understandable for the most part, though "normally" maintenance is done at an earlier time, when it is still night time for the US.

Who goes to bed at 11 or later in the middle of the day?? Because that is what time it is here in europe. UTC is 11 for London so already there it's quite late in the day, the you have 12 for Paris/Copenhagen/Berlin, and it just gets worse for the eastern countries and Russia especially. But as I mentioned earlier, the time for US is now early morning/morning, so if they point is that they also do maintanence for US servers at the same time, to somehow consolidate the maintanence for both US and EU at the same time, I could understand that, because early morning is the best time. Im probably going to go with that explanation.

When EU and NA servers had maintenance at different times, sometimes problems would occur with one server or the other making maintenance last much longer. People got envious of the others having to wait less and came to rant on the forum. So maybe it's one of the reasons too.

And sometimes the patch would break something and the earlier patched server would need to be brought down a second time - more envy, more forum rants - while the later patched server would only be brought down once.

ZOS does not need to tell you their reasons, but I'm guessing there are several for them choosing to do it this way now.

This is where you went wrong. It ocurred to you that there were existing threads but instead of searching for them (ie: good netiquette) you started a new and entirely redundant thread. That you're subsequently complaining about the answers you get makes me think that you might want to re-think your posting before searching strategy.

My guess is that they don't split maintence of US and EU because they also have three different platforms to support in PC, Xbox and PS4. Simpler to roll out updates for one platform at a time.
