UPDATE: I tested the mechanics in question, and have updated the original post with my findings, which will be written in bold.
Hi everyone,
I was curious about how blocking functions against DoTs and AoEs, in the context of PvP. However my searches didn't turn-up any recent or conclusive information.
Some specific examples I'd like to know are...
1) Poison Injection:
If the initial impact is blocked, will the debuff and DoT portion of the skill be negated? What about blocking when the DoT has already been applied—will this mitigate the damage ticks?
TEST RESULT 1: If the initial impact is blocked, PI still applies its debuff. The DoT ticks, however, are NOT mitigated by blocking.
2) Viper's Sting:
Same questions as with P.I. In this case I suppose the "initial damage" would correspond to the melee attack that applies the DoT.
TEST RESULT 2: If the initial impact (light attack, heavy attack, melee physical skill, etc.) is blocked, Viper's still applies it's DoT. The damage ticks DO get mitigated by blocking—which is unintended behaviour. This is a known bug that is being fixed on the Clockwork City PTS.
3) Weapon enchantment procs (eg. Glyph of Flame):
Does blocking mitigate the damage from these, as per a regular direct damage attack? What about the secondary effects that such glyphs can proc (burning, diseased, concussed, etc)—does blocking also prevent these from occurring? And does blocking mitigate the damage ticks that they apply?
TEST RESULT 3: Blocking does NOT prevent direct-damage weapon glyphs from proccing. However, blocking DOES mitigate the damage that they proc.
4) Ground AoEs (eg. Volley, Caltrops, Elemental Blockade):
Does blocking while standing in the AoE of such skills mitigate their damage ticks?
TEST RESULT 4: Blocking does mitigate the damage ticks. Note however, that this was tested with Volley, and may not be representative of other skills.
I know that's a lot of specific examples, and I'd appreciate any help or insight!
