Do you like upcoming retraiting?

All the pessimistic stuff I swear. Some of you are too young to be so cynical, truly.

I like universal, flexible systems. I think we forget that 1T was very innovative, a success, and was doom and gloomed into the ground on these forums.

I think retraiting is a great idea, cautiously optimisitic about implementation.

I'd prefer if it allowed both style and trait changes, made use of existing resources (driving demand so that gathering is rewarding), with real benefits to being a nine trait crafter in the mix.

I wonder what it means though, that there is something about it they won't discuss. I bet it will involve something from the Crown Store. If so, that would go back on any promise they ever made that crown store would never be P2W.

In what way would being able to change a trait that is already in the game to another trait that is already in the game remotely going to be P2W?

Well if they really wanted to make it P2W why rebalance traits in such a way that makes 3-4 of them roughly equal in terms of DPS just 2 months before, instead of sticking to the "sharp or trash" META? Because it was the weapon trait that generated the most frustrating grind, since armor trait has far less impact and armor is much easier to get than weapons due to the way the loot table is structured.

The "retrait stone from end boss" hypothesis seems plausible since it keeps people doing those dungeons. Also to motivate them make the chance of getting it increase with difficulty setting and maybe depend on the number of traits researched by that char to also encourage people researching on alts. If they made the chance 20/5/1% for vet-HM/vet-noHM/normal and add an increase of 0.2% per trait researched overall - (14+14+6)×9=304 in total - to that baseline and maybe throw in a small bonus for doing DLC dungeons they will reward well rounded players. Also make the stones BoE so they can be sold on guild stores and outweigh the loss from the drop in overland set piece sales. Also add in some additional restrictions like bind retraited items to account.

While it's a great idea and will save people a lot of time, this will end the grinding of gear.

It also depends how this is implemented. How we go about the re-traiting.

Will it kill guild traders? Why buy something from the guild trader when you can farm one weapon of any trait and just change the trait?

Has the system been explained? Because I'd like to see what it's going to cost us to change the traits.

So that once I have a piece of each SPC I won't need to run WGT anymore, given I will be able to retrait it. I can already see all those DD in queue waiting for like 6 hours for a healer to go play with them. Reducing the numberr of people farming, will drastically reduce the number of tanks and healers in queue, thus making it impossible for any DD to enter at all.

I would do the opposite: provide more reasons for people to run the same dungeon over and over during the same day. Run this dungeons three times. Run this dungeon both in normal and veteran.

Farming is frustrating because you end up getting nothing at the end of the run. Give something!
Then do it my way, last boss drop an re-trait fragment, you need 5-8 to get an stone for re-traiting.
This give you multiple options, you can continue to run WGT as you might get SPC in correct trait, you can run another dungeon for another set, randoms for xp or pledges, raids has an chance of also dropping the stones and these stones are not bound. You can shape players behavior with rewards.

Grinding just make you go in circles.

I'm neutral until I see how it will be implemented. If it is Crown Store only, I am firmly in the "no" camp. If it is Crown Store with the tiniest sliver of possibility of getting in game, just so they can say "it's in game, so it's not p2w", I'm still a No vote.

If it is equal in game and crown store, and is limited to one change per piece, I wholeheartedly support it.

What arguments have those who said no? I'm curious about it.

Mainly because the reason people want it is so they only have to run the content once or at most a few times and then whatever drops they can change to how they want it. That may be an over-simplification but it means that they will complain instead about the lack of things to do or else, depending on how it's implemented, about the grind involved in getting the additional item(s) needed to do the re-trait.

As so often with MMOs, "quality of life improvement" is really just a euphemism for "dumbing down".

What's dumb is running a single piece of content over 500 times (usually on normal difficulty too).

People has run vMA hundreds of times without getting the weapon they wanted, yes this was probably worse then sharpened was the only weapon trait but I guess the loot table has been changed :(

Problem with an bonus for HM is that players will grind vCoA1 and other fast an easy dungeons, you will get the LFM CP660 DD for vCOA1 farming fast runs. I would rater drop fragments from all runs.

Person A runs vMA 10 times, gets inferno staff, re-traits it, and goes off to dominate trials leader boards.

Person B runs vMA 1000 times over a period of 12 months, still doesn't have inferno staff in desired trait, falls behind player A in leader boards

The same applies to other gear like specific monster shoulders (especially those that are OP in PvP) and dungeon/trial weapons.

I'm gonna have to go with "Perhaps" or "Yes, provisionally." It's still too soon in terms of information released to know how they plan on doing it or how royally they might botch it. And yes, they could screw this up horribly.

"But they could make this amazing and not mess up at all!"

Indeed they could. And if they do, I'll jump for joy and gleefully apologize for doubting them on this for all on the forums to see. (You'll just have to imagine the jumping. I'm not going to video it. I have limits.) I'll be absolutely ecstatic, like a kid on Christmas.

In the same vein, they could do something bewilderingly stupid like locking the retraiting material behind crowns or buoyant armiger level RNG (or worse) because "Hey, it's a convenience item. You could just spend hours and hours running the content for the right trait." Or "RNG is fun!" I'm a firm believer that Murphy was an optimist. If you don't get your hopes up too soon, there's less chance they'll crash and burn spectacularly.

It's possible some will decide not to run content as often. But you know what makes me hate content (and games, to a degree)? Running the same thing over and over again trying to get that thing that absolutely refuses to drop. I want to run dungeons and stuff because I enjoy them. Not because RNG gets its jollies out of kicking me in the teeth and the devs let it happen.

This will allow ZOS to increase gear CP levels each 6 months or so. Or introduce seasonal gear, or something completely different. Anyway, the grind will be there forever

People would leave if they do that.

A gear cap increase doesn't accomplish anything in this game due to scaling. You can only increase gear cap in games that gate new content behind a higher level requirement (like WoW). Higher level gear makes you more powerful in those games. Higher level gear in ESO wouldn't make you more powerful. If you parse 35k right now, you'll still parse 35k if they increased the gear cap to CP 1000 due to how scaling works in this game (mob stats scale 1:1 with the gear cap).

If you force people to grind just to get back to the same power level they were at before the increase, they will stop playing.

Basically, if they raise the gear cap, they will need to abandon scaling. So, the next chapter they release would need to have CP 200 mobs, while the rest of the game stays at CP 160. I can't see them going down this road due to how well received the One Tamriel upate was. The game's population on Steam tripled after One Tamriel launched.

Gamers who want a gear treadmill are in the minority these days and any game that institutes such a design would be shooting themselves in the foot.

Yes because I am *** done with farming bosses, getting the right piece a 100 times but with worthless traits such as well-fitted or training.

I think they should add more drops to a boss, so that it will be harder to get the right drop item, but when you get it you won't need to do it a million times over because you have a worthless trait. Instead you can use the retraiting system to get the right trait and you won't have to farm bosses for 2 weeks.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

Worthless poll. Where is the option that says "I'll see if I like it when they show how they're going to implement it."

ZOS is creating all this hype, but it's probably only going to be on Crafted Gear, which almost makes it useless. I'm pretty sure they are using this to distract away from actual problems with the game.

If we're getting Quality of Life improvements, where is my housing item slot expansion? I care about that way more than this re-Trait news which is likely overhyped.

Those who have been asking for it for a long time will of course love it. There are plenty of reasons why those who haven't been asking for it won't love it.

Rejection of more dumbing down, waste of developer resources, the usual clamor by players for something followed as soon as they get it by bitter complaints that it wasn't done right, accusations of P2W, betrayal of every promise ever (allegedly) made.

Those are just some of the reasons people don't or won't like it, and half of them will be expressed in due course by those who currently say they love it  !

I like the idea of it, for sure. But its implementation needs to address the problems that make the trait grind awful to begin with. If this "extra component" requirement is just another ultra-rare RNG grind (looking at you, mythic aetherial ambrosia) then what is even the point?

Obviously we don't know how it's going to work yet and I'm not trying to be a negative nancy, I'm just highlighting what could make an amazing-sounding system turn sour real fast.
