For me, I completely despised the series of quests involving that annoying lizard Sun-In-Shadow in the Tel Aruhn area of Vvardenfell. I can no longer remember the name, or more accurately, have subconsciously erased it from my mind.
Why, did I dislike them so, you may ask? Simply put, there nothing about the entire quest series to like. The main character is totally unsympathetic. The voice actor sounds like she’s been smoking cigars for forty-five years. The over-long series of quests are annoying, and the entirety takes far too much time to finish.
(Minor Spoilers Ahead) So we start off with a quest to free Sun-In-Shadow from slavery. Okay, that’s a worthy task for our hero to embark upon. So while doing this step, I finished the other quests in the area. Then when she is freed, that lizard want more from me. I have to help her gain recognition as a mage, and this is done through theft and murder. Just what kind of cold-blooded lizard did I free? So now I’m traveling over half of the map doing chores and side-quest from other NPCs to help her become a mage and steal a place on the council. By now, I’ve finished with all the other quests in that part of the zone, and am stuck doing this stuff. Worse than that, is the constant requests of go to the other side of her little town and asking another NPC some trivial piece of information, picking up forms, or making deliveries like a servant. The town is ‘C’ shaped, so it’s a hamster wheel of running up one end and down the other, with one loading screen after another. Fine, I do that for her, and when her never-ending ambitions eventually land her in prison, I have to get her out through a set of side-quests from her jailor/superior. Then at last, when all my hard work promoting her to a position she does not rightly deserve (one she would have never attained without my dastardly deeds) I think it is finally over…but wait, now she has personal issue I must resolve for her! Seems like the scaly lady and her cold-blooded lizard boyfriend have grown apart, and who better to fix there situation than me. In the end we’re left with some morality play that by the time it came around, I could care less.
Over all, it was a long and uninspired series of far too many kill-and-fetch, or sneak-and-fetch quests all loosely tied together in one story. I really liked the rest of the Morrowind expansion. Most of the questlines were a lot of fun. I’m something of a completionist in games. I like to make sure I do all the quest on my characters, but by the time this questline concluded, I was angry, disappointed, and had to stop playing for a few days. The Sun-In-Shadow questline felt like a horrible chore. Yesterday I was considering making Dark Elf and running them trough Morrowind, kind of for RP purposes, but remembered this questline and concluded that I cannot bear to run another character through this zone again.
Not only were the lame adventures of Sun-In-Shadow my least favorite quests in Morrowind, but so far its my least favorite in all of TESO, and possibly of any game I’ve played.
