Terrible Performance on High End PC

My pc:
http://www.modsrigs.com/detail.aspx?BuildID=36010

Intel Core i7-6850K @ 4.0GHz
Asus Rampage V Edition 10
64GB Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 in Quad Channel @ 3000MHz (8 x 8GB DDR4 Dimms)
2x EVGA Geforce GTX 1080 FTW w/ EVGA HB 80mm SLI Bridge
Samsung 950 Pro 512GB NVMe PCIe x4 m.2 SSD (OS Drive)
Samsung 850 Evo 1TB SATAIII SSD (Data Drive)
Corsair AX1200i PSU
Acer Predator x34 21:9 34" IPS Display w/ G-Sync 3440x1440@100hz Native

My FPS can hit 100 when there is nothing on screen (in the middle of nowhere), but when I'm in town or near buildings/villages it drops to 40 fps. It is absolutely terrible. I know this has been an issue since launch for many high end hardware owners.

My hope is that perhaps in the time since launch someone has figured out some type of workaround, tweak, or fix that will allow us to get any degree of performance increase.

Many Thanks in advance to any advice, or details provided in relation to this query.
Sincerely,
Skoda Zek - Dragonknight

    See here.
It's not on your end. The game is, technically, crap.

Your PC is better than mine (Asus Strix RX 580 & i5 4690k OC'd to 4.7GHz) and I can hit 100 fps in towns etc on Ultra at 1440p so I'm going to take a guess and assume this is an issue on your side rather than the game itself.

    1. your i7 is overclocked. a no-no for a high percent of peeps in MMOs.
    2. you're running in SLI, another no-no for a high percent of peeps in MMOs.

I'm running much older gear at stock clocked, no SLI, and stay locked at 60 fps in towns, 1440p too.

    This is complete nonsense.
An overclock is either stable or it is not. If it is not, you are likely going to get BSODs or random crashes. If it is, you get better performance. There's nothing more to it.

SLI on the other hand (and Crossfire obviously) is almost always more problems than good. Especially in older games. I would suggest creating a profile for ESO where one card would be disabled (if that's possible).
You're not going to get any decent fps anyway.

Agreed. Overclocking would only improve performance not hinder it (If done correctly of course, without temps getting too high and throttling the clock rate of the CPU.)

SLI and Crossfire are not widely supported anymore and you are almost always better buying a single graphics card of higher performance than two lower performing cards.

EDIT: @SkodaZek I just noticed from your original post you're running in a widescreen format (3440x1440). Have you tried running the game in a different resolution? Higher resolutions always put more stress on the graphics card(s).
Try running the game at 1920x1080 or 2560x1440 and you should see a difference. I'd also disable SLI for ESO if I were you. Power consumption vs Performance it's a waste of money and also prone to cause input lag and errors.
