If you read the TOS carefully, you'll see you're getting what you paid for. To paraphrase, it says "you're paying to access the server when it's up and we make no guarantee that it'll be up when you want to play".

Honestly, I don't know why anyone would expect to play ESO on the day a new expansion is released. They seldom have everything work fine, and when they do it seems like all the people downloading the patch cause a lagfest for those already in-game.
Even on the internet, clear communication is important; it can be the difference between "helping your Uncle Jack off a horse" and "helping your uncle jack off a horse"; the difference between "knowing your s***" and "knowing you're s***".

You love the game, I get it. But try to contribute with something that helps the community and ESO to be an even better place, instead of complaining about something you cant do anything about, specially when the patch adds more content to the game we all want to play.

People have no life lol. Go out, meet some people, invite friends for a beer, workout, grab your gf/wife and go on a date. Try a new hobby, read a book. Watch a movie/ anime / series. Read lore. Research new builds. Play another game. Work on your back yard. Walk a dog. Go shopping... ffs idk there's milions of other things to do you lazy asses.

Edit: "BUT MUH SCHEDULE"... That's life lol. I get it that you want to play now because you can. That's not an excuse to not do anything else productive though.

Edit 2: Since bunch of smartasses tried to call me a hypocrite for sitting on the forums myself. At the time of the post I was on my way to work. So no, it's not like I don't have better things to do myself.

People have time to play ESO now want to have maintenance finish ASAP.
People can't play ESO right now, prefer ZOS take as much time as needed to get job done right.

Both understandable, but fighting each other over this is childish, really.

I can guess, guys complaining are likely from Australia. And guys heckling, of course are from EUR. US guys are all sleeping at this moment.

So please, all just state your opinions and stop fighting each other.

Part of the problem is that they don't do the maintenance during unsociable hours for EU players.

I've been playing another game lately and each time they have maintenance they post their patch notes a day before the patch, they listen to feedback and developers keep players up to date on what is going on with the maintenance and why it's taking longer if it is.

Really don't understand what is holding ESO back from doing this.

While I tend to agree, the fact is that ZOS has long held the opinion that we just don't need to know. As a studio, they really prefer to have a "press release" relationship with us.

OP is east coast Australia, as am I. I'm not jumping on his bandwagon but I was caught out a bit by the server going down an hour earlier than it usually does. One thing that would help enormously would be if ZoS would put information like that in the launcher in our local time zone. It is trivially easy for them to do it but they won't and I just can't understand why they resist.

I don't complain about maintenance but I still don't like when people say stuff like the bolded above. I mean you are sat here on the forums telling other people to go F off out elsewhere. I can't decide if ironic or hypocritical.

Or... take some responsibility. Make a note of the time difference between where you, the player, happens to be and the UTC. Check the forum banner on a Sunday which is usually posted to let people know when maintenance is happening on a Monday and do the time conversion yourself - then take a little more responsibility and ensure your friends also know :):)

Well, they started an hour earlier. That may not affect you, but it affects me and my time-planning.
I expected a six o'clock start and planned around that.

So. As they started earlier, one could assume that would like to finish on time, to satisfy the important folk i.e. USians

But as ever, if maintenance goes on and on and on, then I'll come here and whinge about it.

    Your participation, is entirely optional.

Curious how you planned around that. Seeing as when servers are brought down they can be up at any time. We don't get an expected ETA until much later into the downtime, if even then - at all. Also it doesn't matter what you say about you getting what you expected from them, you signed all of that freedom the moment you said you agreed to any terms and conditions.
Go outside. Have a drink. Talk to your friends or family. You can survive without ESO for some time, don't worry.

Amusing - "important folk i.e. USians". I could use other terms to classify "USians" but to each their own.

I really don't know why this thread was made so early.
Don't most regular matinence patches take 4-6 hours?
You know the ones where only 8 entries of "Fixed the dialog for quest #x" show up in the patch notes?

Should expect a longer down time for an entire new DLC.
