Ah, thanks for sharing the info! Well, I might be doing PvP even tho I am not planning to aim on PvP in ESO. But for that one Dye I will ^^.
Well, you make AP a whole lot faster now, after they increased how much you get for taking resources.
I've played since day one on PS4. I'd say 95% of it has been PVP. I hit the General rank in May. That's a lot of time but most of that AP was before the increase. Legate is the rank before General. Also, I spent a ton of time playing Dark Souls.
If you get in a half-decent group or even just follow the zerg, you can expect anywhere from 1 to 6 million AP in a 30 day campaign. More if you get into a very focused group that is farming for AP and doing very little else.
I finished the last campaign with 16 million AP but I had Midyear Mayhem on my side.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll have to pick one character for pvp instead of playing a bunch of alts.

Also note that colours are richer on metalic materials. Leather and cloth will always appear grey.
Vanilla ESO (everything looks washed out):
Corrected colours with Reshade:
Is Reshade an add-on? I have to admit that looks WAY better!

Here you have the Alliance war ranks and to reach Legate u need 30 million AP:

Coldharbour Ash Black is almost identical. Almost everyone has it unlocked too (you get it by completing the main story). Grinding for Legate takes ages.
"almost" OP asked for a really black dye and i gave the answer. Legate Black is not only more black than coldharbour ash it also has a shine to it that only the best dyes have. If you are passionate about how your armours look and u want the best dyes then u have to start pvping, its no other way.
I could be wrong, but doesn't Coldharbour Black also shine? I know a few of the other super easy ones shine as well (I think Thalmour Black was one of them).
I don't have ESO+ to test right now (I know the bottom part of the Ordinator robe costume shows correct colour and shine).
Coldharbour ash black has a slight sepia undertone on many items. Its also not as potent as Legate Black, it looks washed out on certain items.
I dont really understand why they locked the best black dye behind relatively high pvp rank. After all, black is a very basic color and is used pretty often. Other basic stuff like caltrops and vigor is a joke, but this dye is out of the reach for the majority of pve players.

I think all dyes should be unlockable via PvE and PvP avenues.

THIS! ^^ In a game that is supposedly "play your way" this is unacceptable. There need to be PVE and PVP ways to achieve ALL dyes.

Good comparison. Both are essentially black. Of course both will show some grey, otherwise the armor would look flat and boring.
For OP, your solution is rather simple. Look at the dies available in the die station, sort it by hue (whatever the choice is) and look at the darkest blacks available. Really simple.

Most people likely over set their brightness. Since it sounds like you are mainly a pve player no harm in some darkness in the shadows!
