Yeah Swtor expacs were only 20$ each, until the newest ones where you just have to basically sub to gain access and even keep whatever you unlocked after sub goes to pref.

ESO's prices might be alittle over the top but other games have really drained alot more than what ZoS has.

Ever try looking at Origin prices ?

There are better publishers to compare to than EA. But Zenimax isn't far off.

I mean they did have Sims 4 when it first launched for like 120$ if I remembered.

The collector's edition, I think, yeah. The regular edition was cheaper.
But yeah, The Sims 4 pushes out some form of DLC every few months (ranging from 10 to 30 dollars I think, I'm not sure since Origin uses my country's currency instead) and it launched without several staples.

At launch, it had only five life stages (child, teen, young adult, adult, elder), with the "baby" life stage actually being an object (like, the baby is tied to the crib and can be put in the inventory), teens being the same height as young adults, adults and elders, and no toddlers in sight (added early this year). Note that The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 both had the life stages baby, toddler, child, teen (shorter than adults), young adult (exclusive to university pack in The Sims 2), adult and elder.

It also launched without pools, that were present in the series since the first game and were the protagonist of one of the most famous Sim killing method (deleting the ladder after they enter the pool). They were added a few months after release only, but still.

Sorry for the rant. I'm just trying to say that EA is still leaps and bounds worse than Zenimax.

But don't get me started on Ubisoft.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

Guarentee the next one will be the same price. Zenimax wont compromise on it's own monitization, just like it wont hire people who'll actually improve the game.

It will be hard to sell a 30 hour Murkmire expansion for $40. Morrowind sold on the hype.

Murkmire would have some hype behind it. Nowhere near as much as Morrowind, mind you, but it would have some for a couple reasons:
    1. Murkmire is already confirmed to still be in the works and is being redesigned after being pulled back from being another Craglorn.
    2. With all the original rumors of The Elder Scrolls 6 supposedly taking place in Black Marsh (despite there being no confirmation or news about the game whatsoever), there are probably a lot of people that want to see more of Black Marsh than just Shadowfen as a result.

Morrowind is pretty special because of nostalgia, there were probably a lot of people who hate or don't play mmo's that didn't mind paying full price for Morrowind to experience ZOS's re-imagining of it. I don't think the price they charged for Morrowind is something they would be able to successfully do with other DLC areas. IMO, of course :)

Look they get to price it at any point they want. It is up to you whether you want to spend it or not.

It was my birthday recently so I considered buying morrowind but that price was just to high a bar to jump. In stores it is $ 90 AUD. It is $40 AUD on steam. That is still close to twice I payed for the base game and I can't justify it.

In the end the crown sale meant I bought the DLC instead, as I was after more content. Still for a similar price I bought the original game and it was on sale.

I have no nostalgia for ES3 Morrowind, I tried to play it more recently (i.e after playing skyrim) and it was just unplayable for anyone familar with modern game design. I am sure the story is great but I couldn't actually play the game and got easily frustrated with combat, inventory managment and navigation. Basically justifying why I didn't play old school RPGs, Fallout 3 was the first one I played.
