Four Focussed Aims in a second...

So I arrived at a keep, it was empty outside and wall down as AD were in the inner. I saw an enemy player entering the keep so ran after him. Just as I caught up I got hit by an arrow and died. I had full health the second before I died.

My death recap showed four focussed aims from the same player (I didn't see him). Given I hd full health then died in an instant I wonder how this is possible? I wasn't lagging (I could see every movement the player ahead made and was adapting to that). Focussed aim takes a few seconds but I was burst down in one!

    @NolaArch isn't this what happened to you last night?

    I know with the travel time of Focused Aim, you could pop off multiple ones before the first one hit, but four seems, uh, excessive. And if it is legit, I really want to know how it's done. For research of course. o:)

    it used to happen alot before ic, i thought they fixed it, but iv been seeing it more and more, two or three hitting at the same time with a weird sound effect making it sound like they all went off at once, i hope zos fixes this.

    It's one of two things.

    Cheats.

    Lag. Not on your end but latency between the server and the shooter.

    as much as i hate animation canceling.....

    you cant animation cancel abilities that needs a cast time to work...
    if you try to animation cancel it it simply wont fire off...

    Happens a lot for sure, most likely latency as mentioned above. I have seen it with my own skills before too, definitely feel bad but its just part of the game basically.

    There is a bug where you get hit by snipes but the game doesn't show those hits. Your health bar won't move and there will be no sound/animation. However a combat log addon will show that you are actually getting hit. When your screen then finally registers those snipes a few seconds later it appears to be multiple snipes at once (and usually you are dead), even though it wasn't. I don't know if this bug can be exploited intentionally or if it is something that just happens from time to time due to lag or whatever, but it doesn't have to do anything with cheats or animation cancelling.

    Also happens in combination with crit rush. Those 2 abilities seems to be the most buggy from my experience.

    Interesting. This being the case he could have been hitting me over a period of time as I approached the keep and it just didn't register! How annoying.

    Animation canceling cannot override the minimum time to activate the skill. Even instant skills have a 1 second CD.

    Often what happens is a lag where it appears all the skills fired at once.

    Lol you so are so un-informed. The game has a global cooldown system. You cant bypass 1 skill per 1 second. However there is an emote glitch which does allow your snipes to have no animation and only appear once your dead. Thus 5 snipes in a row.

    The server won't let you activate more than one ability every second. Sure, you can weave light attacks, dodge roll, block etc, but your client side input can't cause more than one attack per second. All a "modded controller" does is change your input. You could have it it R1/RB1 500 million times in a second, and you'll shoot one snipe.

    Sorry, you're not correct with a "modded controller". Course, there definately may be cheaters (I'm not naïve. PC had CE. Ir, has CE...).

    Because they have decent servers and skill cool-downs. I agree completely. And when we were hit with tier 1 crippling server lag, they fixed it. I'm not holding my breath that ZOS are willing or able to do so, far easier and cheaper to call it a "feature".

    We could blame it on modified controllers, macros, our platform, our internet connection hell we could even blame user error but we all know its the hamster that powers the server thats to blame

    Having this alot at the minute. It just feels odd, with this skill in particular and destro skills.

    Top much lands too fast.

    I get Ani cancel lalala. But unless I'm suddenly against aload of Ani cancel masterminds all a sudden that I never encountered before something seems up.

    ^This is exactly right. I swear, the "snipe glitch" is one of the oldest glitches in the game. For years I've been suddenly dropping dead (often including a health de-sync right before) only to find 3-5 focused aims in my death recap. It does seem to have gotten a little better lately but I still get deaths like this nearly every day. It is unrelated to cheat engines, animation cancelling, etc. It is just some kind of weird delay glitch that causes them to not register until you're dead - and thus the frequent health de-syncs it causes. By health de-sync I mean where it seems like you are at full health still but your magicka and stam instantly go to 0 and you can no longer use any abilities. So you basically know you're dead, and whenever this happens I know it has to be from snipe, but your health still shows full for a couple of seconds before it finally registers your death. As far as I know, this only happens with snipe.

    Yes, snipe is still glitched and in lag scenarios you can get hit several times without audio, without seeing the arrow hitting you, without taking damage until you suddenly die and see all of them on death recap. I am not sure if combat log addon can track it live, but everytime i check it after death I can clearly see all the snipes I received during the combat, with proper spacing of ~1-2s.

    Because of skill cooldowns, and that fact that its an entirely different game with different inner workings, should not compare games with different mechanics like that, too different even if both are MMOs.

    Nor can a controller somehow change server side GCD's...


    But hey believe what you want, people need something to blame i guess.

    This has been going on for awhile.

    @Minno remember a few weeks ago me and you were watching one of our DC brethen being pelted by a single guy on Bleakers rooftop with Focused Aims that was firing off like a Machine Gun? "Pft,pft,pft,pft,pft"

    We remember it distinctly because we were laughing at how fast this guy was able to shoot Focused Aim...it was shooting faster then a Semi-Automatic Rifle...the guy was just barraging them off, the poor sap got hit with 4 of them within like 1.5secs or so(I saw it from stealth exactly 5m from the guy, i had a perfect view of this guy shooting Focused Aim off like a Semi-automatic rifle with no cast time and the Focused Aim light pillar on the poor guy who had no chance)...it was kinda hilarious but totally a hack or some kind of undocumented bug.

    I have also noticed some other cast time abilities being funky like some kinda delay and then bam, its almost like maybe Snipe, Crystal Frags, etc has its own version of macro slice now. I don't know...things have been really weird as of late. That may explain how that guy was ripping off Snipes so fast...buggy game is buggy.

    Unless something has changed recently, there is no 1 sec global cooldown. All actions are the length of the animation, and can be shortened by an amount determined by a local cooldown, based on groupings.

    The heirarchy in clipping is, in ascending order, basic attack (LA/HA) --> ability --> block/bash/weapon swap/sprint/etc.

    If you spam the same ability, you can't land 2 in one second because an ability does not clip the animation of another ability. If you clip the animation of an ability with, for example, bash, the bash animation cannot be clipped.

    What does this mean? You can land three damage actions in a one second timeframe. For example, light attack, surprise attack and bash. This can happen when the light attack was started in the previous second and is clipped at the beginning of the current second by surprise attack followed by a bash.

    So, you can't see the same ability twice in one second, but it has nothing to do with a cooldown, it has to do with the clipping hierarchy.

    When talking about focused aim, if they are spamming the ability, it is theoretically impossible for two to land in the same second. If 4 landed, there was at least an about 5 second window. I say 5sec because the first cast of any ability with a cast time is longer than follow on casts. Because focused aim makes a distinctive sound before hitting you, absent lag, you should be able to react for about 4.5 sec of that time.

    He was probably using the non-ballista morph of the bow ultimate. It's a channeled attack with an animation exactly as you describe.

    Again, unless something has changed, you can animation cancel any cast ability, including snipe. Wrecking blow, dark flare, snipe, all abilities with a cast time that can be clipped. There just is no point to it because in the vast majority of cases you will be out of bash range and it is faster to cast snipe back to back than to snipe-bash-snipe. It can be useful if you need to block incoming damage.
