How much DPS shoulda healer deal?

More DPS then the DDs, 20K+
Eh, I'm used to trial healing but in a dungeon environment I'm pretty laid back.

Usually the only damage I'm dealing is my lightning wall and whatever the shards do. I'll supply damage through my buffs though, which is what I focus on.

In Trial you nearly deal no damage. Just with Spears and other support skills.. i only speak for this exemple, what the OP described.

Simple question, in your opinion in a 4 man dungeon, how much DPS do you expect the healer to do in a decent group? When the other two DPS are dealin about 15K each (adding up to 30K) or whatever the average accepted number is for a DD

(Yes I know it's another poll, I like polls, if you don't like polls then shoo! Poles have their own icon so just avoid that icon.)

The healer should heal. That's their role. So it should never be expected for a healer to do damage.

That being said - it's perfectly viable to build a healer who is capable of contributing significant DPS.

It's up to the healer how much damage they want to do.

    Some DPS, like 5K
to say that healers do literally no dps is kinda weird imo. there should atleast be some damage output from say lightning blockade that healers sometimes run for off balance and spear shards/mystic orb also put out a bit of damage. This may or may not come out to over 5k dps but its something.

I just find it funny when a healer doesnt have a single damaging ability on their bar, and outside of healing, and the occasional buff, they kinda just stand there for awhile until we need heals.

If your group sucks, dps away. If they don't suck, buff them, it's more dps than you would have done anyway.

oh I know, but like, in a trial I'm making sure all my buffs are up at all times and worry about resource management and lightning wall and debuffs, but in dungeons I am more lax and just usually spam lightning wall and combat prayer and heavy attacks.

Healers should heal, and if you've run with good groups in trials, you'll know that healing is more about maintaining uptime on buffs, as well as making sure everyone stays alive and is fed resources. There is no time to DPS, while you are doing this.

If you are talking about dungeons then it depends on where you are and what kind of group you are in, at times when the fights are very simple or when you know the group won't suffer for it you can contribute to the DPS, but personally I wouldn't recommend even trying to dps as a healer, as it quickly becomes a bad habit that will oftentimes lead to group deaths.

Depends on the group, I remember getting to the second boss in a dungeon once and we were struggling - health-wise that is, when I realized I was the healer in the group (thought I qued dps) - so I slotted a few Resto abilities and we whipped through the rest. It was a vet dungeon - don't remember which - I think the one with the netch who spawns a gazillion adds.

At any rate, the others in the group had enough resist, health, and their own health regen/procs that we didn't even realize nobody was healing until half way through. Other groups I remember never casting an offensive spell it was so hard to keep anyone alive.

You are correct the primary role for a healer is to heal and provide buffs for the group. However, with a half decent group the healer has little to do and as such should contribute to the dps for the group.

You are also correct it is up to the healer to decide how much damage they want to do. I have run dungeons with a healer that would not do any damage outside of what their shards did but they were not a good healer to begin with so I would not have expected him to do anything but just stand there and do heavy stacks most of the time.
