1.What attribute DK tanks usually go for ? (Stam or Magicka or hybrid)

2.Is DK a good tank class when compared to Warden and Templar ?

3. In WoW tanks can do decent damage but have amazing survival?. How it is in ESO?

    1. It changes and varies depending on the build, but I personally prefer full Stam and get HP elsewhere (i.e. gear, enchants, etc)
    2. My Warden is a very good/versatile tank, but alas I must admit that DK will always be a better tank mainly due to their passives. I love my Warden though because I can heal through vet bosses even when healer is down.
    3. You can build your tank however you like, but you'll always sacrifice something. My tank for example is like "Paladin". I can heal and tank pretty well, but I did sacrifice reduced block costs as well as DPS potential. Some tanks can dish out decent DPS and tank as well, but many just go pure surviavability + utility with just enough regen/resource pool. Most important thing is getting the right gear I suppose, after that you can build around it and move around your attributes, enchants, skills etc. to see what works best for you.

It all depends on the build.

I have a stam DK tank that does no dmg but is close to unkillable
I also have a magicka DK tank that has ok survivability, but can deal 20k DPS single target.

DKs are the best tanks, bar none, but your build should match the content you aim to play. I would never bring my Magicka tank to a trial...but vet dungeons melt pretty fast with him.

Let me answer them point by point...

    1. Stamina is more important because block, bash, dodge roll and taunt costs stamina. Put more points into health though, the DK has a unique way of getting stamina back.

    2. DK is the best tank class. 2 incredible passives that boosts resource management, 1 passive that improves the amount of damage you can block, best shield ability for the group in the game, good ultimates. I could go on, but any reasonable person would vouch for the DK as the main tank class.

    3. The same. When built correctly a tank can deal OK damage but still be virtually unkillable. Any class can accomplish this but the DK has the best layout to accomplish this.

    Conclusion:

If you want to purely tank 4 man dungeons, then any class will do. Trial groups however want the main tank to be a DK. It's also the most forgiving class to tank with, you can afford to screw up and mistakes, only to quickly recover and establish your foothold again.

My main tank is a Nord DK and I feel like he's miles ahead of any other class in terms of tanking (the Warden is interesting, but more geared towards the off-tank role mixed with healing the group, kind of like the Templar).

    Hope this helped!

    1. In the current meta, you want more stam than magic (even if its just a point more) because of how resource returning synergies function. More and more DKs are going to high health builds, but other than that, one of your most important stats is magic regen if you can believe it.

    2. DK is the undisputed best Tank class in this game for one simple reason: Igneous sheilds and the Helping Hands Passive. Essentially you can block cast igneous shields and regenerate stamina while blocking. This is why we want high magic regen (like 2k fully buffed), because you can spam ingeous while blocking and you essentially convert your magic to stamina. If your magic regen was infinite, you would essentially be invincible save a true one shot. One nice thing about having high health, is that your igneous shields also hits your group. High health DKs can basically give their group 10k shields on command. This is very important if you have stamina DPS in your group

    3. Can you build a tanky character that does damage? Sure. In a lot of 4 man content, you really dont need a true tank. That said, if you are building a tank for end game content, your own damage should be the least of your concern.

Would you mind running through your mDK Tank setup? I've been looking for just such a build for Dungeon runs.

Atm i'm a Dunmer DK Damage build and want to be able to gear / skill swap to a tank role without logging out and in again.

I'm basically trying to make a "Trybrid" build as it were. I have all the skills and (some) of the gear i need for PvP. I just need to know what skills / gear to go for to be a Tank as well and then i'm set. Also, would you mind giving a little about what type of rotation you follow? Do you run as Vamp? And is your CP set for more Tank or more Damage?

    1. I have Dunmer MagDK tank with most of her attribute points in magicka who runs normal and veteran dungeons. Her damage is slow but steady, while I have enough stamina for taunts, blocking, and interrupts. I could probably do better with sturdy gear or block cost reduction enchantments.

    2. I prefer my DK for Igneous Weapons as a group buff, high resistances, good self-heals, and just all around suited to being a good tank when used properly. I've also run with a Warden tank and those have their own good sides as well.

    3. My DK does about 4k dps on a boss with few adds, rising to 6k dps if its an easy boss and I can switch to a more agressive rotation and I'm wearing Grothdarr's. Some bosses I have to really focus on the mechanics and I do less damage.

I already posted this MagDK build on your old thread: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/373365/pve-damage-tank-is-such-a-build-possible-anymore

    1. If magicka tank, go magicka. If stamina tank, go stamina. Duh. If super duper pro on resource management while keeping all in group buffed and debuffs/taunt on boss(adds), go put points into health, hor larger shields on group.
    2. DK is best tank in game. Period.
    3. PvE tanks should tank. Leave the bloodworks to PvP tanks. (IMHO)

I never even realised it was you. I really need to pay more attention. Sorry about that lol

I've actually started working towards your build. Still a few more pieces to get but i'll get there :-)

    1. Either way works. Typical tanking you can DPS, heal, or just straight up tank. You only have to change to nor hybrid or more health stacking on end game trials or some DLC dungeons.
    2. They are considered the meta thanks, but any class can yank. The big thing they have going for them is a high survivability, high ultimate generation, and abilities that help other roles.
    3. You can survive a long time and do damage with certain builds the big thing is learning the fights though, so you know when to block, step out of the red, etc.

    If you want:
    my PVE tanking guidelines
    my meta tank PVE sets

I probably need to include abilities at some point, but that should give the basics.

What you would advise for gear / traits / skills for an mDK Tank?

In an ideal world what would you run for an mDK tank?

Also, what would you run for a DPS Hybrid Tank?

I'll be running as a Dunmer DK for both.

Look at the gear sets listed. You can run 2 utility sets and even a DPS helm for most dungeon content. Personally I run knights errant and either sunderflame (we have melee dps) or hide of the Werewolf (I generate more ultimate) with a Velidreth helmet/shoulders. That's with a trusted group however. PUGs I'm likely to consider Tava(nerfed next patch), Ebon, and Blood spawn default. But it's all up to you.
