It doesn't need to be a magicka healing ability so Vigor would work. If you have a Warden or Temtank there's a plethora of skills that could proc it.

I only use the 1p of this and shadowrend, the Chokethorn 2p is extremely underwhelming.

^This, the recovery from 1/1 is far more useful to a tank than the proc of the 2 piece.

Green Lotus skill on Warden will proc this set on your light and heavy attacks, which I thought was interesting. I haven't really tried it out in a dungeon situation or anything just tested it a bit at my homestead.

On PTS however I am really kinda liking Shadowrend's improvements for my magicka tank. Ran thru vFG with it on and the clanfear seemed to be almost always out maiming things.

Could be useful for non DK tanks but in PvE DK tanks just use choking talons and boom, big AoE minor maim and root. And on bosses, where it matters most, we all use heroic slash, regardless of class.

Unless your trial team uses a more complex warhorn rotation than 1-2-3-4 then bloodspawn is useless. And even in dungeons where its just you and 1 healer, if even that, its more important to CC fast for quick runs so the extra magicka recovery for more Talons and Chains wins over bloodspawns slight ulti gen. And if you want more ulti, Invigorating drain is a more reliable way to do that and since you don't have to block a lot in dungeons its the perfect time to use it. So you get the best of both worlds.
    1pc chokethorn/shadowrend with 1 piece chudan/pirate skeleton ftw

The resistance is really not needed.

well lets be fair here, the option proposed otherwise being 2 1 pices providing magickar recovery and thats dependant on a lot of things including CP allocation, sets, food and mundus, boss fight, and group composition.

if adding the 2nd 1 piece magicka recovery thats 129, add say 12% arcanist taking it to about 145 recovery.
Say there is a healer with worm 4% reduction, 203 reduced cost on a ring (if they go that route) making a igneous shield cost about 3304 (3654*0.96-203 - assuming this is the order of calculation). 3304/145 = 22, now since recovery is every 2 seconds thats now an extra igneous shield every 44s.

i like the extra reduction especially when not blocking.

id imagine doing 1 piece chudan/pirate will be more popular though with horns of the reach when defending trait on weapon now only granting half values.

To be honest, defending isn't really that needed either, not used it in a really long time, only used it when it was the only drop I had of a set I wanted, counted it as "wrong" trait. And you must remember that the percentage buffs for magicka recovery is only after all of the additive bonuses have been counted, so it will add a lot more than just 145 magicka recovery, especially if you consider not just the Arcanist but also Vampire, Magicka Aid, Major and Minor Intellect. It can add up to quite a bit.
