Should Maintenance have ETAs?

YES of course maintenance should have ETA's! - even if it is lengthy, I can plan around it
I chose "No" because this poll is clearly biased toward "Yes"; also, I'd rather them take the time they need because it's also clear the OP has no idea how maintenance in IT works...there are so many variables when implementing technology that even an ETA will be missed occasionally. Best to just keep an eye on the forum update or the Twitter feed to know when the servers are back up.

Maintenance will be something we will have to live for the foreseeable future...why not get 'zen' and just accept it as part of what needs to occur - with or without an ETA?

Well actually you clearly have no idea about how "IT maintenance works" - there is always an ETA - and yes they will be missed on rare occasions, that has to be managed.

NO I'm happy to be underinformed and will happily tolerate the lack of information or updates as a paying customer
    Biased poll is super biased.
    But the answer remains no.

No, because if it goes one minute over ETA people will complain.

I'm no IT guy, I have no idea what they do during maintenance; they could work hard or they could simply take the servers down to save money.
So then trains, buses, planes everything shouldnt have estimated arrival times - i.e. ETA, since people will complain if its not down to the minute or second... ?
Buses and planes have timetables because being on time is what drives their business - pun not intended. B)
ZOS' livelihood does not revolve around maintenance - hence the absence of ETAs.

Nope. A maintenance will end when it's ready to end. Anything could happen during a maintenance that could extend its time, and if that happened we would end up with tons of posts about ZoS lying to us about when it will be finished.

ETA - is an estimate... its not lying, its planning and projecting downtime - its not hard - almost ALL IT departments need to do it - cmon guys - arent a lot of you or at least some faimiliar with this ?

You never ever estimate to customers unless you really really have to or the damage was already done and the estimate is to stop the panic. They will complain more about not delivering on estimate than not having estimate. Case in point your thread
    ^ This.

EDIT: to clarify, of course ZOS has ETAs, they just don't share them.

Sure, why not? If they're off deadline a little, they can post revised time. I think it would go a long way to maintaining a relationship with the gaming community (the trust through transparency thing ;-). Most are pretty patient, but have other things to do to and so would appreciate the advance notice to time these things. Purely a courtesy thing though, not crucial to their operations. That being said, as an organization, it currently remains an empty checkbox.

    epic necro!!

I see that Zenny now has ETA's after all.
    Well Well Well.

Thanks to all the trolls who went into 'defend Zenny at all costs fanboi mode' while trying to justify a lack of an ETA back in 2017 - in the mean time Zenny did the obvious thing anyway.

For all of the trainee trolls who posted in this thread earlier on a crusade to explain Zennies actions - read it back to yourself and then find a mirror and look long and hard - mwahahaha

It would be nice. Not that it really matters, I'm in a time zone where I happen to be at work for the maintenance, anyway. But, for the sake of courtesy, it would be nice to give people an idea of how long the game will be down.
