my main is a Frost Warden and if I can hit 45k on a 6mil dummy, so can you.
Fantastic! Care to elaborate a bit (setup, skills, roration)? B)

I tried a warden frost mage but compared to my fire dk or lightnig sorc casters ..

Ysgrammor is ok now. Frost was weak ini the past but Warden's have received significant buffs to the damage they deal with Frost. So much in fact that a Frost staff is preferable to a Fire Staff and Lightning Staff if you want to focus on Frost Damage due to the fact your Light and Heavy Attacks deal more damage than with a Fire or Lightning Staff along with some skills such as Wall of Elements, Destructive Touch and Impulse. Keep in mind Shock Pulse and the Destro Ultimate will be better with a Fire Staff or Lightning Staff generally speaking.

If you want to build for Frost you need to build around Crit damage and the Chilled status effect. The reason for this is due to the passive which boost Crit damage vs Chilled targets. So yes, Ysgrammor is not a bad set if you're building towards Frost. With regards to other sets I will point out strengths and weaknesses.

    Winterborn:

The best thing about this set is not the proc but the Magicka Regen, this on a Breton means you can get away with not running recovery on your jewellery allowing you to ramp up your Max Magicka, which is good for your Northern Storm Ultimate. The proc will also deal more damage on a Warden than other classes, but at the end of the day it is a proc set and as such won't give you the best numbers.

    Icy Conjuror:

A great set for PvP or soloing as the Penetration is always nice to have and the proc is a powerful DoT. This set I find is better on a Necromancer though due to their Rapid Rot passive. You can get this thing to a tooltip of 30k or more on a Necromancer and I run it on my Magcro for theme fun (Snow Wraith).

One set I would make a priority however is Elemental Succession. If you are going to main elemental damage, this set is top tier as it is basically up all the time and will give you more Max Magicka and Spell Damage for Frost than Ysgrammor at the cost of a bit of crit chance, but this is a small price to pay.

Running Elemental Succession with Mother's Sorrow or Perfected False Gods can make for a very nice Frost focused build.
You can then run Iceheart for more Frost which is nice due to more Crit Chance, or if you want to ramp up your DPS even further then Domihaus is not a bad option with the extra 200 Spell Damage.

For weapon sets then Maelstrom is the obvious choice here, but don't discount Black Rose Ice Staff, it has been buffed in Greymoor and every tick will benefit from Elemental Succession.

    You basically have 3 choices.

    1. Build for Crit Damage and build around the passive.

    2. Build for Max Magicka and build around the 30 seconds 15% extra Max Magicka from your Northern Storm. The more Max Magicka you have the better this will benefit you.

    3. A bit of both.

On a final note Frost Damage as a DPS option is 'almost' there. But not quite, really we need just one more Frost DoT in our skills to make it competitive. But don't worry too much, my main is a Frost Warden and if I can hit 45k on a 6mil dummy, so can you.

How much of that damage is elemental? (I presume you are running 2 or 3 magic-damage skills.)

the set isn't as good as elemental succession or mothers sorrow or false gods. and isn't as thematically pleasing as winterborn.

Actually no, I basically only have 1. Mystic Orb which already deals a ton of damage and has the extra bonus of helping group mates sustain. Pretty much everything else is Elemental Damage on my bar. I drop Mystic Orb for Swarm when soloing.

    My set up is this:

    5 Piece Elemental Succession

5 Piece Perfected False Gods Devotion (Back Bar).

    Perfected Wild Impulse (Back Bar).

Domihaus or Iceheart depending on what I am doing.

    Frontbar:

Crushing Shock, Arctic Blast, Mystic Orb, Bird Of Prey, Mages Light, Ice Comet.

    Backbar:

Impulse, Destructive Reach, Unstable WoE, Winter's Revenge, Betty Netch, Northern Storm.

    * I wish there was a Magicka version of Deadly Strikes as I think this would help me a lot more.

Wardens are awkward to me because they are this wierd hybrid ice mage and nature caster and the class sucks if you try to specialize in either one, especially ice. There just aren't enough skills in the game.

I personally think Frost damage should be multiplicative. In that with every extra layer of Frost, the damage of all those effects goes up. (Basically, it gets colder as more Frost is added).

It's good for Rp'ers that are looking for a certain 'look and feel' , it wouldn't surprise me if this set exists purely from people asking ZOS for something like this for their warden.
Been here since Feb 2014 - You'd think I'd be half reasonable at this game by now...

    A'marta - AD Sorc Tank
    Kijima - AD DK Derps
    Annure - AD NB Derps
Boom Crash Opera - AD Sorc DPS

ysgramor existed since before warden even came out. and it doesn't really even help with the look and feel. if you're looking for "look and feel" frost 5pc sets, winterborn is the best option for that.

probably not. its basically a copy paste of the sun set but for frost dmg, and not even magdk *wants* the sun set, its just a stepping stone if you cant get/cant afford something else
