This is why we need a token system

1. Safety from balance changes and item cap increases

Plenty of people spend countless hours to farm their bis gear. We are talking about 300+ hours for certain items like a bsw inferno staff sharpened or even just a vma staff. It is ridiculous that they will have to do the same grind again just because now some other trait is bis. This is especially relevant for people running for scores because they "need" the bis gear.

2. Limits farming times

Farming gear in this game is really frustrating. Sometimes you need to invest a couple hundred hours to get an item just because you have bad luck. A lot of people would rather spend 10 hours to get their item guaranteed than having a 5% dropchance on the item (if a farm run would take 20-30 minutes).

3. Solves inventory problems

Often you get good items that you dont need right in the moment or that just might become powerful at some point. Saving all of these drops for later currently results in massive inventory spam.

Possible issues

Removing items from the loot tables would also remove tradable items. You could trade the tokens instead though. Im unsure how that would affect trading guilds.
To prevent this tokens could only drop for bop loot.

How to implement it

I see two different ways. Either you can trade the tokens in for a specific item or you craft with the tokens (would require extra crafting stations).

Easy way to implement this system which I suggested elsewhere would be to:

    1) Bind the token to the master writ merchant (ie buy the token with writ vouchers from Rolis Hlaalu) a fair price for the token would be somewhere around 750 writ vouchers (can't have the price too low or the token would be too easy to get). The token should be tradeable and the item when selected should be BoP.

    2) The design for the UI when cashing in the token already exists in the game (to an extent at least), you could easily adapt either the guild store UI or even the dungeon finder UI.

    3) Use the token as you would any consumable to open up the UI > select dungeon > choose gear set > select armour, weapon or jewels > select trait > select item > receive item.

Not only benefits the user as to finally getting the item they want/desire but will also breathe life into a failing master writs market, Crafters can benefit from it, Traders can benefit from it and the consumer gets what they want without having to suffer what can seem to be the endless torture of fighting rng.

You could also just not worry about bis and 1,5% more dps and just so the things you find fun. Its a game after all.

The only issue i have with that is that players could receive maelstrom weapons without being able to beat it. I guess that could be easily fixed by making the purchase connected to the achievement similar to the achievement related furniture.

If you run endgame content for scores you need to worry about performing. Having the best possible gear contributes to that.

I was generalising, there is no way that this kind of token system should be used for Maelstrom/Trials equipment, Trials probably doesn't need a system as you have 12 people who can give/swap between each other. Maelstrom is its own kettle of fish and probably should stay just the way it is, frustrating!
