How many times have you been called an elitist?

I'm CP 559 and have been called an elitist 3 times in the past two weeks. Why? For simply explaining mechanics that people are so blatantly trying to ignore. Mind you I am very polite each time, I don't mind helping new players learn because I was once there. 2 times in a dungeon on my healer, one of which I had to tank and dd because the rest of the group was incapable to either hold taunt or stop light attacking with bows (vet Blessed Crucible and yes it was pug), another pug vet dungeon trying to explain mechanics and a trial from today. No one knew the mechanics in nMoL and were running around accidentally killing one another. Near full wipe but we managed to res.

Am I to expect this now that I am getting closer to CP cap? Which I still have far to go.... I know people are going to suggest trying guilds for raids and dungeons, but most of the time everyone is already busy or just don't do anything.

I call someone an elitist when they get mad at players for not knowing the mechanics without having explained those mechanics to the said players.

I haven't, however if you go about explaining mechanics, people naturally get flustered or embarrassed about things they know little of.

Annnnnnd as such, people usually have their social filters turned off. This is why I keep my Flame Shield equipped at all times. I can't keep running to the store to buy more Burn Heals.

Never and I have explained mechanics plenty of times. Probably has nothing to do with the CP lvl since I have been capped for a long time.

Edit: I even ask if everyone is familiar with fights when low CP are in the group and the fights have some mechanics.

not an elitest, nor a 500+ cp player, but why should anyone have to explain the concept of tanking to someone who has queued as a tank? My recommendation would be to keepa stock of frost staves at hand for the tanks

Elite or no, there seems to be a "minimal effort" set of people playing who are either playing while distracted, or who want a grand prize just for showing up... as with in real life.

Never been called an elitist but I also never bother explaining mechanics unless someone actually asks.
I'd rather just barge through the dungeon and carry them - no skin off my nose

Just a few days ago I did a normal random dungeoun as a tank. This healer refused to heal anyone because the dps weren't lined up in front of the healer. Even though its one of the easiest normal dungeouns, healer complained about wasting his precious resources to heal.

we kicked him and I just switched to dps and we just 3dps the rest of the dungeoun with ease. The players who take this game way too serious are elitist Imo

That's good advice, not to give advice unless it's asked for. It's a wise sentiment and we'd all get along better if we followed it. Which is why I never attempt to tell others how to play or what skills they should slot unless they first ask me for my opinion. Otherwise you run the risk of coming off as a jerk.

I will explain the basics of fight if it looks like the group is new and doesn't understand how it works. But that's where it ends.

Agreed. If the pug sucks and we're stuck in a dungeon like WGT then the group falls apart even without me leaving. So I'd just wait for another group and hopefully not another difficult dungeon.

I got called an elitist once when I apologised but refused to continue a run through vCoA2 after we spent 10 minutes killing the first boss. I was the tank doing 2k DPS, total group DPS was about 12k.

Offense is taken, not given. I'm not an elitist, no matter how many times I get called it for informing my tank that bow spells deal more damage than light attacks.

From my experience, some people who think they're very courteous when explaining stuff and how it actually comes over is usually two completely different things. I've been in 2 or 3 groups where someone has taken it upon themselves to "help" another member of the group and it was painful listening. Not because of the new player, but the guy doing the explaining. They then scratch their head when people talk back or leave the group as they think they were being courteous . Yet everyone else can fully understand why the other person told them to shove their head up a dead bear's arse, then left.

Without noobs, this game would die. in fact, that goes for most games. We'd be on another forum talking about another game, but a newly released game.

Never been called an elitist, but I've been called a filthy casual. By me. All the time.

I've played since launch and even so, I know I'm not great in some group content. If someone gives me pointers with good intention and delivery, I appreciate the effort. But so much of tone can be lost in text, and there are plenty of jerks out there, so it's understandable that people's first reaction is to lash back rather than take the advice sincerely. It's all about perception.

I feel there aren't enough. I wish we had 10 times the number of noobs. We need tons more noobs joining this game every day in order to sustain healthy PVP population, especially players at all different skill levels for battlegrounds to assign fair teams.

At launch we had a dozen campaigns with much higher pop caps, raging epic battles all over the map 24/7. Currently we barely have enough for one campaign on NA PC, and sometimes even this one dies down late at night, battlegrounds sometimes has not enough players for 4v4v4.

Well I would take new players who are interested in optimizing their builds/play over relatively ignorant noobs, but that is my preference.

But if the only option of sustaining the population are newbie players who don't know how to play the game, then we are left with no choice.

I only get called elitist by some joking guild mates.

But i was called much worse things in Cyrodiil more times than i can count.
I dont know why, but somehow people Start to get salty and Start to flame me

Do you imagine back at launch everybody just hopped in Cyrodiil already knowing how to 1vX and speedrun trials, etc? 99.9% of players were bad at PVP and endgame PVE, and very few had a clue about builds. Were you already an expert when you started?

For most of us it takes a long time practicing to become good. In my case I played during 2013 beta for a long time before launch and then on and off since launch and years later I'm still relatively bad at this game.

During the first year or so after launch, it seemed most players were pretty bad at 1v1 PVP. Just learning some basic things that you could practice with duels like how to block, cc the enemy, manage your resources etc, put you on a level above most players.

There were some really good players back then of course, but even if you were totally new you could get into some fights and still hold your own because a lot of enemy players were inexperienced as well. And there were more players in total at various skill levels.

These days the PVP population is a small fraction of what it was, and most of the players who have stuck around are pretty experienced. There are a lot more super tough players these days and nearly everyone is much better at small fights.

Some of the new people who join PVP for the first time these days feel like it's incredibly difficult, suspect everyone is cheating or who kills them quickly, get turned off and go straight back to PVE. There is a larger gap these days between the skill/experience level of noobs vs average player in Cyrodiil.

I hope somehow we can get enough new players engaged so that the Battlegrounds will have more people queuing at all different skill levels in order to assign fair teams. If too many new players get discouraged, both the Cyrodiil and battlegrounds populations will keep shrinking unfortunately.

I've never called anyone an elitist. I've thought it a time or two, but if someone is actually trying to help me, I would never try to alienate them. I've only thought it when someone is spamming their skills in front of a large group of players because they think it makes them look cool.

And @Orjix ...um, my feelings wouldn't be hurt if you explained to me about animation cancelling.

If they are interested in learning how to play their characters differently chances are they will ask for advice. Or do research.

When someone comes off as a jerk - whether intended or not - I seriously doubt the person taking offense is going to follow said person's advice anyway. So it's counter productive in the end and usually just leads to more discord.
