There is a possible (statistical) maximum that players can obtain ... and no one has exceeded that. ...we’re not seeing anything abnormal that would suggest item duping or an exploit.

When items are duped, it creates errors on the server, so this kind of thing is typically easy to track down and eliminate.

Think it's pretty clear we are looking at something illegal. Notice the behavior of the seller. He is dividing them into stacks of various amounts to sell them fast. He knows very well he is going to get banned soon. But behind selling them there's another pattern we can't see. Like gold selling perhaps.

You can easily check my words. Try to send mail to this username tomorrow and you will see that you can't do it.

Realize that ZoS will never officially confirm that there's duping and they have no idea how to fix it. If this is true or false, the response from ZoS will be identical and you already know what is it. Don't expect devs to come here and tell "yea, this guy harassing us for a long time and we still don't know how the hell he is doing that." It will simply never happen. And the main reason is because at that same moment so many people will rush to find a way into duping items.

I don't believe it was duping for the nirn farmer it has to be a bot though, there aren't even that many nirns on the open market on all vendors at a time each week, no where near that many.

My opinion is a lot of the more professional gold sellers are pulling out of ESO and liquidating stock due to dropping numbers and price of gold plummeting due to lack of buyers and the ease the casual player gets to bot it coupled with the lack of enforcement from ZoS, the Aetherial dust was, so i hear, Russian professional group pulling out.

Makes a bit sense, number of bots are increasing think we can agree here, this will both drop prices and increase risk for another major purge.

So you're are stating that you actual clear video evidence on how to exploit the game in order to gain more Aetherial Dust than intended?
If you do then I am pretty sure ZOS would want to do something with that. If you really do have that then PM it to the devs and they will take action.

However if you don't have actual information on how to exploit the game and are just speculating on data you've seen via market sales etc. then they may not be able to do much with that.

he is talking about the bots- and goldsellerreports. as prive did, as i did. its an issue. a serious one.

Agreed and one I have based ZOS around the head for in many threads.

Botting and gold selling isn't an easy counter though. I would like ZOS to streamline their tools however, we should be able to literally push button, report bot. That fast, then that mail go right to their team that deals with it, no middleman.

If someone abuses it they get their own account suspended, as in every other MMO that has a speed system.

I’m of the same thought as your last comments above. I often wonder if the words players use complicate discussions around bots, economy, etc in addition to how ZOS staff comments and speaks.

I recall long ago a personal feeling I had on motif’s at PC release. There was a gamer I friended who I noticed would log in/out about 122 times during my gameplay of 1-2 hours each day for a week.

I asked that person why and they shared it was the most efficient way they found to find motif. So they had a few characters in various places and would log in/out on each multiple times u til they found desired items.

To me that was an exploit but I didn’t report them as there were already forum threads on others doing the same. What blew my mind was when ZOS spoke on ESO Live about being aware that players use that method and that they didn’t consider it an exploit.

O K....fast forward a few months, ZOS then removed possibilities of obtaining motifs from certain areas completely and limited where other motif could drop.

To me that seemed to contradict their earlier stance. Further in Tamriel Unlimited to Today’s atmosphere, motif are even further limited.


All of that to say this....what’s accepted or confirmed as an exploit seems to be up to ZOS and often times changes later in a patch. If later we see aetherial dust in the patch notes to some extent it raises questions.

Initially aetherial dust was believed not to exist at all, so a change was made, now for a year almost its argued that people are getting it from an exploit. That word keeps coming up but it’s often confused in the developer acknowledgements.

I believe what Jessica F to be true, however, the context of it depends upon what is believed to be an exploit vs what’s considering an allowed farming technique.

I have always argued for ZOS to come out and confirm an exploit when it's happening/found as to let people know it is one, and then work to fix it.

Something along the lines of "It's come to our attention there is an exploit regarding farming of X. We encourage everyone to stop this activity immediately and submit any information which can aid in addressing the issue via a bug report. Those caught abusing the exploit will face actions against their accounts."

Here is an example of CCP Games doing it for EVE Online.

However ZOS has this strange attitude about keeping exploits hidden rather than warning people off them (maybe marketing reasons?) which over the last three years has proven to not work.

Then add to that when actions are taken their so weak that everyone just laughs and goes right on to the next exploit. Again other games take the time to go into their logs remove rewards, have a strike system with bans and enforce fair play in their games.

I use to be concerned but hopefully not like others, but possibly.....things continue and it begins to become normal. I’m very cautious to imply that ZOS should do as another company does.

With that, being cautious, I’ve noticed the results for me have been that I expect the expected which for others is the unexpected.

I would bet that months from now this topic will come up again as result of bots discussions, exploit discussions, and trading discussions as a patch note. Am I burned beyond consideration that things will change or is this ZOS way, best?

More important, is the way this item is produced seems to be in question rather than how many items exist but carefully the staff response only addressed what was produced vs what’s possible to produce rather than HOW it’s produced. Also no regard to how it’s consumed or if it’s being consumed or duplicated in the process.

Just something I pick up on....careful use of words by ZOS.

The actions have to be weak. By the time ZOS gets around to dealing with some of these exploits, we have been talking about it in the forum for weeks. In the end, people will just do it because the game allows it. ZOS can't tell who is deliberately exploiting and who is just doing it because that is the way the game works. They come up with criteria, like these statistical maximums that they talk about, but those are only guides. The criteria sometimes ends up being flawed. Unbans will happen.

Your idea would only help keep the honest people honest. For everyone else, it would be notifying them that they have several weeks to exploit a new bug in the game, and they get to keep the spoils when it is finally fixed.

A recurring issue with ZOS is that it takes them too long to respond to fires in this game. The real solution is to address the exploits quickly. We are like the children of parents who don't discipline. We can do anything we want because we know Mom and Dad are too busy making Crown Store stuff to bother with us. When they do take notice, they talk sternly to us, send us to our room for a couple hours, and go back to making Crown Store stuff.

When ZOS is alerted to a possible exploit, they need to immediately investigate to see if it is an exploit. If it is, the ToS Team needs to immediately start actions against all players that are using it. They can warn, suspend, or ban as they see fit, but suspensions should be for the duration that the exploit is live, and in all cases, spoils removed. The exploit should be fixed with priority over all other content or Crown Store items, even if it means a schedule slip. Once done, they should have an after event analysis to determine how they can improve.

Of course, this presumes that ZOS is willing and able to do things like that. Basically, I still feel that most ToS enforcement is done by volunteers on their own time. For all we know, the ToS Team is an employee club in the studio, like the Bowling League, or the Dungeons and Dragons Lunch Club.

That's got to be a bot farm. They are selling those to prepare to sell gold to other players. You might notice the gold sellers are popping up in zone chat now, so THIS is where they are getting their gold.

It's amazing how much Aetherial Dust was farmed by the Botters, (if they weren't duped or something), while at the same time of my over 2 years of playing I haven't had a SINGLE Dust drop for me.

Your point is still valid. Despite almost daily play, and almost daily farming, since these were released, I have not seen a single Dust or a single Cipher. I have an add-on watching everything I collect, programmed to set off alarms if I ever get one of these things. Zippo, to date.

Same as myself never seen any drop so far, after daily play. I cannot imagine how so many can be on the market when me/friend circle have never dropped one.
