Scandalous changes to Crown purchased items

Recently, there has been a disturbing trend towards changing crown purchased items, without announcing it explicitly to all who have bought.

Zos should announce such changes before making them, giving people enough time to respond with their views. They have the ability to see who has bought what, so could contact buyers to make them aware of all upcoming changes. This could be done as a prominent in game notice, and associated forum threads. It is not beyond reason to expect this.
Ideally, Zos should also give the reasoning behind the changes, prior to making those changes, so as to better inform discussions of them.

Although Zos have the right to change what they want, when they want, we, as customers deserve to be treated with respect.

If Zos keep retroactively changing crown purchased items, without consultation or notification, how are we expected to judge if something is worth buying?
It might be now, but what about the next patch?
If you can't properly judge somethings value, as it may be changed without notice or consultation, why would you buy it?

And, for those that disagree, where would you draw the line? What if your favorite mount suddenly changed, say the nightmare courser no longer having flames? Or a crown exclusive style you made a rocking looking toon with suddenly loses all the cool bits you liked? Or half the quests from a DLC get removed? When it affects something you bought and liked?

Zos, please show that you respect and value your customers, by properly informing and consulting us about changes to crown purchased items.

The Earthtear Cavern change is one such debacle I can think of that direct relates to this.

I agree with this especially with crown store purchases. Recently they made changes to the Cavern house without notice or explanation. This home cost $150.00. A thread was created and all we received was a " looking into it" answer and then crickets. I like this game and had no problem supporting it until now. Who is to say the next expensive purchase will be changed without notice, leaving the purchaser with less than what they paid for. Not a good business practice in my opinion.

Depends if they have some sort of disclaimer in the ToS regarding the CS. Such as something along the lines of stating items bought from the CS are subject to change without prior notification to the purchasers. If there isn't such a disclaimer, then they shouldn't be altered in any way unless it's causing gameplay issues or issues that affect the use of the item itself.

I am not sure what all this is about - did the price go down on these houses? Or did they re-architect the house with less slots or something?

It's not about whether they have the right, they certainly do. They could remove every single quest from all DLCs if they wanted.

I didn't say they never had the right, I know they do. My point was, CS items shouldn't be altered unless there is something stating they can/will be altered at a later date. I'm agreeing with you, but it's about making it clear to people that items are subject to change. It's called respecting your paying customers and not stealth altering items that people bought in good faith.

I'm going to hold off buying anything until we get clear answers as to why they changed things. It all seems arbitrary, I'm not even sure their meaning the changes to happen.

Now that I understand the situation better; I'd be upset too. I don't blame you -- they should never remove something like that without explanation or some form of compensation if you already own the item. If you're buying it new, then they might have a leg to stand on, since you weren't directly affected.

It is quite possible they don't have the rights to change things bought for equivalents of real world money - the law on this is wide open and changing all the time and in some regions where MMOs are serious business like Korea they treat in game items quite seriously and companies are forced to publish the odds of gamble games and so on. It really is very much down to enough consumers putting enough pressure on our governments to get the rules changed the way we want them.

That is really sad that ZOS does not comment about these issues.

Craglorn cavern (I read on the forums, that some walls were added), Hunding`s pallatial hall (shells and seawead was removed from the beach there), it seems like minor changes, not a big deal

BUT in principle it is really sad and unacceptable!!!

How can ZOS change it and not comment it at all????????? WTH IS THAT!!!???

There were at least two forum treads about Hundings change, not reply.....

that is just sad and totally unprofessional and somehow "we do not care about the players"-message.....

They didn't just take some off, it appears the beach has been swept clean. Looks like only the items I put there myself are still present. On the positive, they fixed the upper east interior window and pushed the slaughter fish back so you no longer get bitten around the corners. On the odd, they removed some of the sea rock, though invisible walls remain, and turned the minaret at the end of the sea wall slightly clockwise.

Unrelated, the ballista furnishing is now completely solid.

how is it possible, that when someone uses a swear word in the conversation, the moderators are there in few hours, or if someone posts something agains the forum rules, the moderators are rushing to close the tread as fast as possible and in the case of this bug there is a week after these two treads about it were created and no reply from ZOS???

It hasn't happened to any of my houses - yet. Although as a homeowner I don't want it to happen on principle and am concerned that more cases of these keep popping up. It does seem more like a bug than deliberate changes, although at least some of what driosketch describes does sound intentional. Fixes are one thing, boarding up windows is another. So -- we should keep bumping this one....

Actually, the Craglorn Earthtear Cavern was kinda a big deal. It wasn't just a matter of "adding some walls", they placed an entire mountain of rock over an entire area. The size in terms of dimensions is roughly equivalent to a three-storied snug pod! It was an entire area that you could build in, had its own window area looking out on a lake... now all there is is a mountain of rock blocking that off. It was a great area as it was sneaky out of the place area that you wouldn't know was there unless you walked around the corner. Some people built whole rooms in there. I built a three-storied spiral staircase going up to three landings, each with its own window overlooking the lake.

That was one area. The second area also had a mountain of rock placed in it, albeit a smaller piece, but it still means that people building in this area lost space equivalent to half a snug pod... basically a room.

Its disrespectful enough that players had to go in there and try and retrieve all there items now behind stone. Hours of design work time lost. But its even more disrectful that a few weeks of these theads and not a single comment on what's happening with this situation.

I hope that they reverse the changes. I had thought about getting the Khajiit one that was datamined whenever it came out. But, I'm not interested in paying with crowns/real money if they have free reign to make changes after the fact without discussion or notification. Radio silence on the matter doesn't work for me either.

I have written quite a bit about the changes to the caverns and would like a reversal or an option for a refund.

Though I feel the refusal to give any type of response about the issue with housing is quite telling. Basically it is more of a sorry sucker attitude. The company will do nothing and is avoiding the backlash from paying costumers with silence. They may feel that this will die down in time and perhaps it will however I am sure it will pop up again when the next change is made in cash housing. But hey, they already have our money, so too bad.

Hey, if ZOS want to change the look of the Daggerfall Hero Costume, by all means go ahead. Whoever they allowed to design that costume has absolutely no talent.

But yes i do agree with them changing other things it is a horrid practice and totally uncalled for.

There's a difference between fixing a feature/improving quality and just being petty by restricting access/downgrading quality.
