Dying Armor - Worth?

Hi Everyone-

Very noob question incoming................

Does dying your armor have any negative effect in the game? Does it make it less appealing to a potential buyer later? Can it be undone? I have a habit of wanting to dye my clothing black and black out my entire outfit at all times, no matter what I'm wearing. I am currently working on being able to craft my own set of EOG gear, and I am not sure if I'm going to continue the trend.

Thanks in advance!

It does nothing but color the.armor BUT binds it to your account so you can't then sell it

Oh no... Well I guess I wont be dying my EOG set then.. unless I decide that I want to keep it forever. I just normally don't like the standard look of armor. I've really embraced looking like I blend in and being an "Assassin" so this makes me sad.

You can also dye your armor as often as you like, or clear the color at anytime. As stated, to dye armor you need to equipment it, and that will bind any set that isn't already bound to your account.

Wearing set armor also binds it to your account so no harm in dying it if you're going to use it. Though you can't un-dye it you can re-dye it.

Once you put it on it's bound as well. Dye it to your heart's content!

You can clear the dye again - that's the rubber eraser symbol.

Look into costumes. There are a number of costumes that look like medium armor (though not many in the store, atm),. The easiest one to get is the one you get with the Dark Brotherhood DLC... if you have the DLC, anyway. That one's literally assassin armor. Granted, if you're not a subscriber, dying costumes can be a pain (you need to buy single-use dye stamps), but it's worth considering, if your look is what you're worried about.

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

Oh I didn't think about it already being bound. I am getting back into ESO and trying to make my way around crafting and such. I'm thinking I'm going to work really hard at being able to craft a ton of armor and selling it, so I guess if I dye my own set it won't be a huge deal. My character was already pretty well in crafting when I was first playing, but when I finished all of the DLC's and main questline, I struggled to find purpose in the game and got bored. I know there are costumes, but there's something about being in all black that feeds my soul.

Here is the thing about Binding the Armor to your account with Dyeing it.

    1. If its a Dropped Set item, its Bound as soon as you wear it.
    2. If its a Crafted Set item, its Bound as soon as you wear it.
    3. If this is a specific drop from a Group Dungeon or Trial or Undaunted Chest, its Bound as soon as you pick it up.

The above 3 conditions happen without Dyes

So, if you using the armor, it's probably already bound. No reason to not Dye armor your using.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Keep in mind any gear worth keeping is already Bound on Equip or even Bound on Pickup so dying really doesn't change much.

Only things that don't bind to you are those without a set.

No one would've ever bought gear because it's dyed cool. It doesn't add market value.

I think you kind of missed my point here. I meant that I thought dying it would hinder my ability to sell the item, not help.

I think I hit the point on the head. If dye-ing doesn't add market value. It probably won't take it away either.

Especially considering (if it didn't bind), that you can dye as many times as you like.

I find it funny that you're both a "noob that's coming back" and have "cleared all DLC and main story content". But know nothing about dyes.

Go do a trial or something.

If I remember correctly (It's been a while), I don't think dying was out in the original release. So its very possible they played before dyes were released.

Kind of wondering where the hostility is coming from?

I cleared all of the quests and obviously know how to dye my armor, but have no experience really at all trading with other players or dealing with the market in general. I knew that it bound to me when I dyed it, so I don't see how this is a question of me not knowing about dyes as it is about me not knowing much about selling to other players.

Thanks for the positive insight though.
