I love seeing random RP. It's probably one of my favorite things about this game. Sometimes I'd butt in and say hello and watch. But I could never actually RP myself, I just can't.

P.S. Keep it in your pants.

I seen a group rping in stormhaven chapel about a marriage.

They were dancing and spamming grats etc... in chat.

The only problem was that they was spamming zone chat so much people couldn't trade/ duel or find pledge groups because of how much spam there was.

Asked them do they mind going in guild/ local or group chat to Rp so people can trade and such, I've never had so much anger thrown back because of that request. So much salt.

I'm a casual rper. Spend very little time doing it though. I kinda do enjoy just sitting by and watching the rp. I'm not very great at it either and don't know a lot of eso lore, so I kinda like make up my own lol.

I've *tried* to roleplay but I never last beyond one sentence.

    Example:

Just yesterday I happened upon an RP player sitting on a chair, staring at the sun with a lady also sitting at his side. i decide to /sitchair next to them.

    RP Player: Hello.
RP player: Comfy chair, isn't it.
    Me: Yes it is.
Me: ... Is it from IKEA?

The thing is most of the time I can't find any RP going on..I don't know of any taverns or inns that are the hotspots for the scene or other locales. As an old D&D gamer back in the day I'd love to try my hand at some Elder scrolls RP even though my knowledge of the lore is abit lacking. If anyone can tell me where it happens I'll come check it out. It's been one of the things missing for me in eso since the beginning.

My husband and I have back stories for all our characters. As an old Rper of WW back in the day of yahoo chat, I can say ESO Rpers are different in what I consider RP. I have not run into any rp in game that perked my interest. I do however rp the decision my characters make in game. I have two characters that only do the good choices if given, they do not steal or kill NPCs. I have one character that pure evil (Guess those too important NPCs are lucky they are important).

This one goes where he must go and does what he must do . There is no time to decide on rules on how one should act or to be thinking why one does what one does . All Khajiit history was passed down day one from mothers milk so why write these things down ? Life is too short for such idle tasks . Better to be smiling and killing ones adversaries so we can get back to the moonsugar and laughter faster . It is why we are called the Renrijra Krin .

I'm on PC and I stumble upon RP quite often while leveling alts. Sometimes on a cliff, just couple days ago by the exit near secret tunnel on one of noob islands, another time at a beach outside Delve, zone chats, etc etc. Not so much toward end game where you dungeon a lot.

I chose other because the option was not available, I do RP a lot, and I love RP, but even when I'm no RPing I still log in and play, however, I do not necessarily spend the majority of my time playing the game with a little RP, I RP quite often and I quest/dungeon/ etc... about equal.

So no RP is not the reason I log in, I log in because I enjoy the game in all of its aspects
No, I do not spend the majority of my time questing etc... with a little RP thrown in, I spend about equal times doing all.

You are generalising an entire population based on one bad experience. When my guild RPs and there are others that are there but not participating we simply ignore their existence, that includes trolls that do everything they can to attempt to interrupt or ruin our RP, they simply do not exist in the RP world that we are in at that moment.

I don't RP in ESO but I have in other MMO games and run pen and paper (well virtual tabletop) RP sessions weekly.

If I see a group doing RP I will normally start walking and act as someone passing by so I can read for a while and see what they're doing.

You are free to come and go where you please and stay for as long as you like. Just take screenshots. Provided your activities are not blatantly disruptive, it will be the RPers who could get in trouble for threatening behaviour.

Don't be pushed around by anybody in game. Unfortunately you just need to lock horns with some people, as I have on occasion when they have needed to be put in their place. You don't need to be rude or abusive, just politely explain that you have just as much right to be there as they have.

I think bad experiences with RPers is the exception rather than the rule though.

RPing within a game always seemed kind of strange to me. My own reservations aside, it seems to be a massive timesink, and as someone who has very limited time to actually sit down and game anymore, I prefer spending it playing an active role and fighting things.

RP is the reason why I play this game
The Elder Scrolls Online is a great game, no question - but even the greatest games get stale very quickly after a few weeks or month of gameplay. Although I do still indulge in quite a bit of actual Gameplay, the one true reason I'm still playing the game in June 2017 without break since June 2014 is Roleplay, without question. I'd have moved on years ago otherwise, only briefly returning to check out expansions and DLC.

That being said, my Roleplaying activity has diminished significantly in recent months, to the point where I may go days without posting a single emote, which in of itself is a far cry from my all-day-every-day approach from 2014, 2015, and a large portion of 2016. I am still glad to see that RP survives in the game, though my own time as part of this community may be drawing to a conclusion in the not-too-distant future.

To those who have not tried it and are interested, i would highly encourage giving Roleplay a shot. It is time consuming yes, but it is truly an experience like no other.

    http://www.eso-rp.com
    Is where people are at.

There's no need to post on those forums, but you may want to check out the events section. Many events seem to be open to all, like tavern nights. You can just drop by and quietly observe others RP to get an idea (don't block /emote and /say) and then join when you feel like it. When in doubt, whisper any other RPers there and you'll get tips and clarifications.

Another way is to check out the recruitment section and join a new player friendly RP guild. Sometimes I see RP guild ads in zone chat as well. But it's a bit more demanding especially when you aren't sure if you are going to enjoy it or not.

I have never, in almost 20 years of mmos, met people who were rping and were also rude. On these forums people come here and talk about rpers being rude/ disruptive and filing unnecessary reports... never encountered that.

the few times I've seen rpers in this game they are either silently standing around because the conversation is in group, or if they are using /say and /e they never whisper me flames or tell me to get out. Maybe because I'm minding my own business and not jumping around on top of things or spamming skills or mudballs or trying to shout over them or flood the chat window or making rude sarcastic insinuations or dance on top of them etc.... somehow I "escape" unscathed every time for the last 20 years... don't know how I do it. I've been reported for giving my characters "immature" names in every MMO I've ever played. I have a standard gamer tag I use on Steam/Battle.net/Origin that I haven't been able to use in any MMO yet without being forced to name change. It's never happened to me once in another genre (and I've been online gaming for over 15 years). The names aren't offensive, just "gross".

I've found that people care too much about what others do in MMOs, which is slightly annoying. You can't expect perfect immersion in a multiplayer game. As long as people aren't being offensive, let them be.

I've never actually encountered BM from RPers directly though. People that do are usually asking for it by trying to disrupt the RP session.

I used to roleplay years ago but not so much anymore. I love coming across roleplayers though. Most of the time they're talking in group chat so I can't read what's going on, but it's still interesting to see.

A few weeks ago I came across two groups of roleplayers in the Gold Coast. One was clearly a coven of vampire of some sort, as they were all vampires, and the other group was not too far - probably vampire hunters? I couldn't read their roleplay but just looking at the appearance of their characters, the emotes they were using, the position they were all in relative to each other... I love seeing things like that. I wish I could have seen what they were roleplaying since I'm interested in seeing that kind of stuff. Really makes the overworld seem more alive.

I don't want to get too off topic but just from the point of view of someone with experience on the other side: if the nickname is too "embarrassing" "gross" or "immature" to print, companies tend to skip over those names when it comes to choosing winners of anything. More than once a random number generator has pulled up a user account, and the name was too "horrible" to publish in the announcement and so they were skipped. Furthermore, if one might one day want to be taken seriously in a community that has "gatekeepers" (like say competitive e sports, or sponsored streaming, or a large modding community) having a "more professional" or at least "not gross" name goes a long way.

im not interested in what others do in the game and I comport myself in as non-disruptive as possible for the circumstance -- mostly because my characters have motivations to either be polite or be stealthy ;)

Anyway, back on topic. I'm always interested in rping but I don't like that my character name is tied to my account name. I'd like to choose when to be social and rp and when to log into my solo character and be left alone. Not possible with this game's setup. Unfortunate.
