Just look at this ping! I live in NA i play in NA and have a good cable company every other game i play i can play perfectly five so tell me why am i getting 9777 ping almost every night?

I have the same problem. But it only happen between 10:00 to 14:00 EST.
    I'm good in other periods.

    Very weird.

that's when "backups" occur... JK, but I have seen issues in other networks where after hours network/systems automation caused bandwidth/systems over utilization.

I've had better luck over the last few days. It's fluctuated between 100ms and 200ms mostly with periodic spikes to 500ms or so (but not every minute). Even though that's way higher than it should be, it's been mostly playable outside of PvP (which remains a completely unplayable mess). It still sucks pretty bad, but at least it has been working. I expect that this is completely coincidence as I've heard nothing from Zenimax on the subject.

I was reading something earlier that suggested ESO's netcode utilizes TCP entirely rather than UDP. While this doesn't explain the problems along the route of course, it might explain the "server lag" that people seem to suffer from, especially in congested situations like PvP. If this is true, I wonder what benefit could possibly be derived from going that route? It's my understanding that the error correction of TCP causes no end of problems with gaming applications and thus UDP is generally the superior protocol.

Well I'm not at all Techy like you guys are but if it helps anyone (or me) I have my internet through C*o*x Communications and we are on the 50 MB plan. Advanced support finally replied to me...after I cancelled my ESO+ and sent them an e-mail explaining why I was cancelling. They had me do the path ping and trace route and replied with:

After some review with a few colleagues, we show that your connection is failing before it reaches out game server. In this instance, with the information you have provided as well as the data we can see regarding your connection when online, I believe the issue is at your ISP. We have given you all the troubleshooting we have on the matter and it should have improved your connection to our game server.

I contacted *** and the first thing they did is refresh the signals to my modem to download the latest firmware and have given me the number to their tier 2 technical support. So my next step is to contact them but I am not holding out on getting this resolved.

I was almost halfway through finishing cadwells gold quest too. Looks like I will never find out what those last map storylines were...sigh

edited because my internet service provider name is a naughty word? that got starred out lol

The problem is still the ATT nodes. I think ZOS changed the route today... but it raised the overall ping. Something is going on and they're changing things. Stll trying to find the best route in. The usual routes that i used are no longer optimal.

I would venture to guess most people don't know how to do this sort of stuff! I am technologically illiterate but I shouldn't need a degree in computer science to play a Game. I've never had issues like this with any other game I've ever played! I just don't understand why they insist on making things more difficult for their customers. The last patch gave me unbelievable lag and this most recent one has made the game completely inaccessible... I have no choice but to unsub at this point because i'm literally paying for nothing...

I got terrible ping value (250~8xxx) in 8:30~9:00 (EST).
I can't play normally, so I quit. Maybe I will try later.
I'm not native speaker in English. I hope that I don't make you misunderstand.

Route seems to have changed from ATT to Akamai and its subsidiary Prolexic for DDOS protection, at least that is what I am seeing from the eastern side of Canada. The DDOS protection could be causing some latency although it seems like quite the improvement.

My ping spikes have gone down tremendously. the highest i've had in like a month or so has only been 233.

Myself and a few others are getting the same issue. but they are lazy to make a post. I made a post before checking yours. And yes, everyday at night I get the same spike lag, with 999 ping each 5-10 seconds every time. Someone has mentioned about data mining from ESO after the huge update we got.

I am having the exact same issue, yesterday it was unplayable, we're fighting an Overland boss in Reaper's March and I've died 2 times because of the lag spikes.

Usually my ping is at 120-150, but the last week or so i am having huge lag spikes every night.

I've been getting this for 2 months now, everyday from around 8-11pm CET i get ping spikes to 700-999 every 5-10 seconds, this happens in ESO ONLY every other game or browser is perfectly fine. What in the actual *** is this ***?? Can't believe i'm still paying for a sub in this *** game.

As this thread is over one year old we will be closing the discussion. There are a variety of reasons for possible latency jumps depending on location, connection type, and the connection route being taken. To help us investigate this further please make sure to submit a ticket with customer support that includes your traceroute information. You are welcome to start a new thread to discuss this issue.
