COD is actually considered safer, because shenanigans can be pulled with the trade window.

Only by visual inspection of the icon, so far as I know, at least on XBOX. The ebonthread icon is annoyingly similar to the pefect roe icon.

No clue about consoles but on the PC, you can click on each icon and get a text description of the item.*confused* why not mouseover the item before accepting? It does provide the description I think.
...or wait are you on console? I'm not sure how it works on console. Given this info is readily available on pc I'd wager there ought to be some way on console too, am I wrong there?

I whispered him and found out that he had 19 of them. That should have been my first red flag, since who sits on that number of Perfect Roe, but I was too eager for a big score.
First of all, I want to say that I'm not on tilt. 180K is a big number, but I've got almost 3M gold, so I will live. And yes, I reported the S.O.B. to ZOS, and hope he gets banned, but don't expect my gold back (though it would be nice, ZOS, if you're listening). I just want to tell my story so that people know not to get ripped off in the same way.
Psijic Ambrosia has been in unusually high demand ever since the recent double XP events, and now still with everyone leveling their Wardens. So, like some other master provisioners, I am in the market for Perfect Roe. Someone offered some for sale in chat. I whispered him and found out that he had 19 of them. That should have been my first red flag, since who sits on that number of Perfect Roe, but I was too eager for a big score. Anyway, we agreed on a price, and before I could arrange to meet him to trade, he COD'ed them to me. Second red flag ignored. When the mail arrived, I saw that the icon was a little funky, but accepted it anyway. Strike three. 19 Ebonthread for 180K.
I wouldn't mention it here except that this happened on Friday. And since then, several times this weekend, when I tried to buy more Perfect Roe in chat, the seller went AFK after we agreed to a price for an unusually large quality (typically 10 or 13) and I said "OK, let's meet to trade." This is either the same *** using multiple gamer tags trying to rip off more people, or a group of people who have gotten into the action. But I've never seen the number of con artists in chat that I did this weekend.
So -- Buyer beware. Be very careful accepting COD mails, and consider insisting upon a F2F trade for large purchases.

You can view the item in a mail by pressing in on the right joystick.

So... you rushed through the buying process... ignored 3 checks as you mentioned and... now you're blaming the seller. OK.

Yes. Without a doubt, I am definitely blaming the scammer. I was too easily fooled; shame on me for that. But he was the offender and I was the (all too easy) victim. I'm sure that ZOS will see it my way as well. He will be the one who is banned, not me.
Anytime i see posts like this on any game, it is painfully obvious someone is just trying to get free in game money. 0/10
You know the minimum age for ESO is 18 right?
