7Light vs 5-1-1

So with the changes that come with Morrowind, what's everyone's thoughts on mag dps armour? Full 7 light or 5 light, 1 medium, and 1 heavy.

Assuming the bonuses and passives from 5 light pieces are universal:

5-1-1
+6% health/stamina/magicka - Undaunted Mettle
+362 physical/spell resistance - 1x H Resolve
+4% health recovery - 1x H Consitution
+2% health - 1x H Juggernaut
+4% stamina recovery - 1x M Wind Walker

vs

7 Light
+2% health/stamina/magicka - Undaunted Mettle
-4% magicka costs - 2x L Evocation
+8% magicka recovery - 2x L Recovery
+726 spell resistance - 2x L Spell Warding

I only listed bonuses that I thought were useful. Though, I may or may not have missed something.

6 light, 1 heavy. This way you don't have to put that much to health and lose max magicka and still gaining extra sustain.

I'd personally go for 5--1-1 because of the survivability it gives you. You can get magicka back from different sources (heavy attacks, synergies, potions, ...) but only way to get survivability is basically either minor or major buffs.

And if you need more sustain it can be achieved by sacrificing a little bit of damage - different food/drink, recovery mundus instead of the Thief, ...

    5-1-1

More versatile and able to make up for differences by other means, even in 5 heavy (PvP Templar)

I always do 5-1-1. Allows me to start skill ups for my non-primary armor types. Helm and shoulders are always my off pieces. Everything else is my primary armor type.

I'd say this just comes down to personal preference between more damage from a larger mag pool or more sustain from the cost reduction and mag recovery.

My characters are all khajiit, so that max undaunted passive is very much needed.

On my stam heavy toon, I run 5-2 with heavy and medium so I can avoid putting points into HP, then build for weapon damage, crit and sustain. Not sure if that helps you much, though.

"I am a nightblade. Blending the disciplines of the stealthy agent and subtle wizard, I move unseen and undetected, foil locks and traps, and teleport to safety when threatened, or strike like a viper from ambush. The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

In most cases you want either shoulder or helm heavy. Most builds don't have the possibility of having heavy chest.

    7 light
One thing that always annoyed me about a 5-1-1 setup was that your character makes a clanking sound when they roll, as if they're wearing a full suit of plated armour (when it's only one piece...).

I'm using 7 light on my Warden with necropotence since that set gives more than enough magicka. Otherwise I'd probably go 5-1-1 or 6-1.

Although 7 light/medium provides quite a lot of extra sustain this patch, so it might not be a bad idea to go this route regardless of set.

It depends on the build and other factors.

For stamina based dps, you want 7 pieces medium in most instances. With Morrowind changes, I'd expect to see a lot more 7 piece light armor set ups too, given that your resource management is better when you run a 7 piece, same weight armor set. But, in the case of a tank, you probably want to go with 5-1-1 to get your resource pool bonus from the undaunted passives. A lot of times, it works good to go with a heavy chest or helm, and six pieces of light or medium if you need the extra physical resistance....but remember, it's only physical resistance now.

So, look closely at what you want to do, then read the passives for that armor weight skill line, and make your choice that way. It really just depends on what you are trying to do.
