As an owner of an Alienware 17 r3 I suggest you get a different computer; Alienware went down hill when Dell bought them out. They used to be a good option with support who did not try to rip you off on your already over priced machine but man after my current experience I'm never going back to Alienware.

Yes they may be pricey but I have not had a pc in years and I used to have an Alienware when I was younger and I loved it. With everything in this I hardly think I've made a bad decision. I was more than willing to spend the money for the name as of now. And I'm not so cheap I would return it just to get the same thing without the name on it. bUT once I'm familiar with them again maybe I will put together my own for my next one. But for now I'm happy with it

Just wanna say when it comes to the renewal of warranty do not let them make you pay more than 100$, they tend to try to make you pay more than the actual price like dead serious.

Any reason why you need a laptop?

You can build a very high end desktop (much more powerful than anything from Alienware) for around $1500.

Define "very high end". Yeah, best bang for your buck is building your own desktop. But with an Nvidia GTX 1080 running you $500-$600 all by itself, I'd be very impressed if someone's build grand total tops at something like $1,500.

Way better and more cost efficient than the Alienware aka my next laptop family; I've been researching them for a couple months now and have decided to move onto that laptop after.

Would you say Asus is better than MSI? From my limited knowledge to me Asus seems like one of the better options out there right now.

I'm personally not sold on the Razer Blade Pro. The specs look impressive, but $4,000 seems much for the biggest selling point being its "thinness".

I did it in Canada, meaning you can easily get under that in US.

    Top end i5 CPU = $300
    GPU = $600
Rest of the costs are trivial.

You could also just get an X70 card instead of X80 if you want to save money.

In 2006, I paid $4000 for an alienware laptop (I bought it just before dell bought them). I had the screen die on me, and one of my hard drive disks cracked from overheating (I was running 2 disks raid 0)

If you can, play on a desktop. It cheaper and better than laptop gaming.

If you need a laptop for work, spending 2500 on a gaming pc will out perform a $4000 laptop, and you can spend the rest on a work/ school laptop.

Congrats on the new laptop! I bought an Alienware 18 about 4 years ago and it still runs great. Never had any problems with it. Runs ESO and all my other games like a charm. I have a gaming desktop but why sit at a desk for hours when you can play from the comfort of your livingroom?!

Eh I use y700-15isk Lenovo. Two ssd's 512 m.2 I install and 1tb SSD 2.5 form factor. 960m runs eso fine and with throttle stop and neversense to help peg my fans at 100% I am a happy camper. Need my lappy for work and tuning. So it is nice. Desktop mostly there for the days I just feel like using it. Or for trials.

They're both good ones but it depends at this point solely what they offer individually for specifications and the cost difference for them. Some have different i7 processors (what you really want in this age alongside a nVidia Gtx 970- 1080); Best thing to do is look at both Asus and MSI then compare the two specs and see what they offer at the type of gaming laptop you desire.

My thing is if you're really wanting a gaming setup you'd want an i7 core processor for application load then you'd want you graphics card being at the minimum a(n) Nvidia Gtx 970m to the 1080sli being the maximum. The laptop should also have an solid state HDD + a regular HDD that is at a minimum 1 terabyte if you plan on creating videos or doing anything else other than gaming on the laptop. Screen should have a FHD(Full high def) and if glare bothers you, then you can slap on an anti glare feature. The Hertz on the screen should definitely be at 120 if you can but 60hertz is ok too.
The last thing is to check it's internal cooling system which you may have to watch videos just to see how it functions as your environment may be not cool, etc and also make sure it comes with Windows 10 installed.

Well Origin PC is a real boutique PC vendor focusing on high end gaming machines. I haven't really found any negative reviews on them. They use the same top shelf parts that anyone else would use if they built a PC on their own. Of course you are paying Oirign for their expertise and warranty slapped on top of the machine.

Edit: And if you care about these kinds of things, Origin is all based in the USA and their customer service is US based also.

the Asus ROG series are pretty nice gaming laptops in the $1300 to $1600 range. If you look around you can find them cheaper on sale. My wife uses one (don't know the exact model off hand), for gaming and web graphic work. She's had no complaints.
