Does the Base patch include Morrowind "DLC" no matter what? Is that why it is so huge?

Downloading all content (even when you didn't purchase it) made sense for DLCs. That way if you renewed your subscription, you could get instant access. But since ZOS went well out of their way to make Morowind a physical release (to try convince us this is an expansion and not a DLC), it makes no sense that I have to download all of the Morrowind map in all of its inaccessible volcanic glory if I have no intention of purchasing it.

If its included, than that's more proof its a DLC and I shoudn't have to clear the hardware space for something that pretends to be a physical release expansion.

That's correct, even if you don't go to the area it's entire contents are stored with the game files.

This is because Morrowind is not a DLC zone. It is a new release of the game.

How very DLC of it. I hope people that went out of their way to buy a CD with a silly statue realize the ridiculousness of what they just did.

This is how all of the dlcs have operated. You don't have to buy a physical disc to play Morrowind (as many people are currently doing) :p

This is because Morrowind is not a DLC zone. It is a new release of the game.

I thought people were still pretending it was an expansion. If it is an expansion, then there should be a base patch and a separate expansion patch, hence the reason for having an CD, physical release etc.

DLC is automatically downloaded when the game updates. But this time, when this happens, its because its not DLC. LOL.

So, are you mad about the size of the download or the DLC vs Expansion issue?

It is MMO. All content exists in the same world no matter how anyone labels it.

    Oh I'm mad now?

I am just further amused that Morrowind looks like a DLC, quacks like a DLC, and now downloads like a DLC.

Well you can't expect people to walk around in pink boxes.

You have to download all textures, all improvements, all the new funitures.

The only thing that ZOS could make optional is whatever assets are only present in Vvardenfell, which I doubt would be more than half of the patch.

This is how PC gaming works. Specially for MMOs.

MMOs rarely maintain separate forks for expansions. So, when the game gets updated, you get everything, and it's your access which is restricted. You know, like normal.

I just feel this event is a culmination of all the ridiculous semantics we have been dealing with on the forums over what to call morrowind.

ZOS goes way out of their way to make a physical release, print and ship CDs with a fancy statue, tell everyone that morrowind is so different than anything before it, and it feels like just another Wrothgar, with a big volcano in the middle.

The only saving grace of this "expansion" would be that I would save a bit of hard drive space by not purchasing it but I guess that's out the window now.

For this game we should've stopped calling it DLC after Imperial City

Its paid content releases, not DLC

Bandwith costs some of us customers money even if we did not want to spend money on this DLC.

So yeah forcing people to waste time and money on something they did not want is a pain in the ass.

There's armour, motifs, pet parts, costume parts etc etc that are accessible and you can trade even with people who don't have the "Chapter/DLC/Expansion/Whatever" so if you didn't download it the textures etc wouldn't exist. Unless you mean you don't even want to see the motifs if you don't buy it i.e. separate the economy etc..

How would you be able to see someone running around in a crafted set in moral tong style if you hadn't downloaded it ?

It is part of the game now, whether you buy it or not, so it will have to be downloaded... that's how mmo's work..

Yes, the nature of mmo's means that everybody on the server has to play using the same client version, so all of Morrowind is downloaded to everyone, but is locked to those that have not purchased the expansion, when you buy Morrowind it will add a flag to your account that tells the client to let you access the parts that are locked.

Yep, this has nothing to do with ZOS, or how Morrowind was labeled, or whatever.

It's an MMO. Everything is downloaded, for everyone, always.
