Not everyone lives in "your" time zone. It may be well after midnight for you but it isn't on the other side of the world. Not everyone is some low down scrub not worthy of your "elite" attention. Some people just play when they can, Rngesus forbid that just so happens to be at a different time than you. (You being the holier than everyone, if you don't play like me you suck types).

So you knock on the door of the keep and ask if anyone is home?

No. Its how AD holds EU TF, capturing empty keeps at 5 AM.

No one is saying that the campaigns should grind to a halt when it isn't prime time, but 30 people logging on at 4 or 5 am so they can take keeps with 1 or 2 defenders is just pathetic...

too funny...learn something new every day...all this time I thought pvdoor meant the same thing as "gating" an alliance - basically taking an alliances two back keeps so they can't fast travel out of the starter zones...

PvDoors : player vs doors when the map is empty of ennemies (ex: TF EU: everyday 6am woodemp)
WoodEmp : emperor crowned when the map is empty of ennemies

Nothing to do with keep capture behind ennemy lines, which is an efficient strat to create diversions.

I'm curious as I'm pretty much a noob still.

But how would a group know in advance that the keep they want to take is left with no defenders?

What are they supposed to do, get the door to 10% and think, oh jeez, no one is home, we'd better move on?

Generally I believe it refers to attacking keeps without players inside and avoiding PvP to gain objectives.

Normally use as a derogatory term for guilds which focus on campaign wins and tactics to that end rather than straight up PvP fights.

Generally it's actually referenced to groups who are on maps against very low opposing populations (such as 3 bar vs. 1 bar) and just roll the map and flip it all one color just because they can.

Taking a keep fast and such when there is similar population isn't really looked down upon.

when no one is in the campaign and all you do is fight keep doors

    This.

It's not about taking keeps strategy. It's when people only play when there's no resistance or avoid it always so they can fight doors and get AP.

Totally fine if you just want AP, Skill points. Cyrodil is not exclusive just to PvPers (there's quests in the zone after all)

Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

I consider all forms of keep flipping PvDoor. Whether defended or not, outnumbered or not. Any bad player can pick up siege and sling shots aimlessly at a door.

I'm gonna call you out for it...personally.

You'll get my respect when you actually try to kill a player or players with equal numbers or when you are outnumbered by the enemy. Even if you die, gotta learn how to fight solo or try.

Plus zergs are the reason why my abilities dont fire off when I'm solo and taking on 5 players. Those massive fights prevent me from securing a group of kills.

    Always remember....

ONLY YOU CAN PREVENT FORES....I mean only you can prevent atrocious lag...just stop zerging...EP small scalers in brindle will appreciate it...learn to solo in summary

Yeah PvDoor is most hated during off hours and can overlap with "night" capping complaints pretty heavily. PVE guild zergs or PVP skill grinding zergs in general that take keeps for quick AP and move on without a regard to the campaign regardless of the time are included.

Lots of people that like the PvP generated during keep fights don't like the fast keep takes that happen for campaign reasons either. Pretty clear by the sentence why that is. Kinda comes down to why there are campaigns with keeps and such in the first place. Are keeps there to win campaigns or to create focal points for PvP gameplay?

PvDoor is mainly used when you end up fighting 24 people versus the Keep/Castle/Fort-NPCs and not actual players.
PvDoor is different from strategic thinking/planning, using it to tag keeps behind enemy lines to cut off reinforcements is in most cases not considered PvDoor.

The issue is when organised guild groups, with no intention of PvPing, but rather have that free 6k AP-tick(You can get ~70k AP/H by flipping keeps) does it. You can play cat and mouse with the enemies. Go to a scroll keep => 20 siege it down on main gate, takes ~1m tops to flip the keep. (How do you expect people to respond within 1 min of a keep getting attacked? Ain't happening). With 1 ram and ~15 ballistas it takes less than ~23s to take down a main gate.
Then once you flip the keep, you just repair the outer/inner main to ~50%. Then you get into sneak, leave the keep, goes to capture another keep while your first keep is being re-taken.

Aaaaand so it keeps going. You get 70k AP/Hour while basically sneaking away from every fight. -cough-. And since Cyrodiil is a PvP-area, this is usually viewed as something bad.

Unless something has changed Im pretty sure most Emperors has earned their crown only being present during PvP but spending the majority of their time repairing doors and walls. Are we going to call that out as well as that is simply cheesing the system and farming AP over actually fighting their way to the crown?

PvDoor is my Cyrodill play-style then If I were to play pvp that is.!

In all seriousness - it's a strategy. Just like ganking, just like zerging, ect. Some people aren't going to like it because it limits their perceived opportunities to win. That doesn't mean you are beholden to their opinions or that you need their "respect" to have fun. As long as you're not violating the ToS, you are in no way obligated to play the way they want you to because it hurts their feelings.

As for the night thing - wow, just wow. The amount of people here who cannot fathom other people having schedules outside their own is astonishing. I do wonder how people like that rationalize 24 hour services. People awake and active at night? Witchcraft! They must be insidious horrible creatures if they choose to play a game outside my hours of operation! The fiends!

Can you imagine? I'm usually at work during prime time hours but I'm willing and able to play pvp late at night and in the morning.
And yet I rarely do so, because I appreciate challenging fights against other players and don't fancy repetitive sieging and killing npcs.

On a populated campaign like viv, if you play the map competitively, you pretty much have to pvdoor or attempt to in order to take a keep. You have to target back keeps in pretty much "surprise attack" style otherwise you will always fail, I know this from my die hard bwb days. We would all stealth out and hide, wait till the coast was clear amd 50/50 the keep and the inner with 20/20 trebs take it down fast, and rep even faster. The pvp comes when you have half the faction come to take it back because you cut transit.

Pvdoor is used for people who come in on lopsided campaigns or into dead ones and flip the map. Like a 20 man guild raid goes into Shor and turns the map. That would be pvdoor since Shor doesn't tend to care about the map. On in the case of sotha where the map is competitive people get upset when a faction with high population flips undefended keeps, it's looked at as bad "sportsmanship"

    My 2 cents
