How do you feel about the limit on furnishing items in large homes?

With housing being a part of the upcoming Morrowind chapter and the recent release of 2 notable homes in the crown store that could be bought for 13k and 15k crowns in their unfurnished versions and for higher prices in their furnished versions - I'm talking about the Earthtear Cavern and the Grand Topal Hideaway, of course -

I would like to know how players who own a large or notable home and have actually decorated it feel about the current limit on the number of furnishing items that can be placed in a large or a notable home (300/350 without ESO+, 600/700 with ESO+).

(Hint: This poll is not about housing in ESO not offering enough functionality [including storage]. There's plenty of threads discussing that other issue so please try to stay on the topic of the limit on furnishing items that can be placed in a large home, here. Thank you.)

I have a large or a notable home/manor in ESO and I have decorated it and I feel the current limit on furnishing items is TOO LOW to allow me to properly decorate that home the way I want to.

I do have ESO+ and the limit of 600 items for some large houses feels actually far too low. You'll find that many players who have decorated large homes feel the same way (a quick forum search will lead you to dozens of threads and posts about it).

Edit: If you try to decorate a large home the same way a regular city in the ESO world is decorated (same density of furniture items) you'll find that in many cases the current item limit does not allow that.

There are players who like to put a lot of heart into decorating houses to make them as realistic as possible. This includes a storerooms full of wine bottles, vegetables, fruits.
This includes kitchens with all the glassware, utensils, fruits and vegetables.
Every table will have something on it, a courtyard will have trees, shrubs and flowers.

Isn't that what Homestead was about? Giving players a house so they can make it fell like a Home?

Now lets remember that every single piece of furniture, no matter if its a tiny glass, single apple or one quill feather will take a whole one furniture slot. Because of that, as far as it goes for small/medium houses players somehow can manage with given furniture slots but when it comes to large houses and manors, even the increased furniture space (600 and 700 with ESO+) is not enough - you can hit the cap and your house will look empty.

Honestly, when it comes to field of furnishing up houses, for anybody without ESO+, 300 item cap for large house and 350 for manor, that restriction makes its unplayable.

There are two solutions, first, most imple and straightforward - double furniture space for everyone and then further increase it for subbers.

Second, make it so that "tiny" and "small" class items take up 1/10 of inventory slot or something like that.

Obviously you know NOTHING about decoration. Housing loading screens look awesome with rooms fully decorated, hundreds of stuff, and that's ONLY one room in the loading screen. 700 items is nothing to decorate a huge house.

I only have a small home in Daggerfall but I have seen some other houses that guildies have. I have to agree that the larger ones look somewhat empty even though they are supposedly "filled" with items.

I wonder why ZOS chose the limits they did. Did too many items cause performance issues?

700 items is a drop in the bucket for Daggerfall Overlook. Simply making and decorating a decent hedge maze and crafting shed pushed me near the cap, with very little furniture inside. Plus, every readable book counts as an item.

    cvVtmNT.png

    zmvk5Yg.png

This leaves nothing for the dungeon or building a decent dock.

You can create a spartan decor throughout a notable home and stay under the item cap, but if you want the finishing touches that add verisimilitude - ivy, knick-knacks, etc. - you will hit the item cap quickly.

This is an issue but its one for ZoS even more than the Players as i for one abstained from buying the Island because after trying to kit out my Hundings Palace, then running out of items even with ESO+. I certainly have no intention of wasting such a large amount of money when I know I will be disappointed before I begin.

Earthtear Cavern. WHen I bought it for the guild, I was under the impression the limit was 2000 items, which would be reasonable given the sheer size. This assumption came from the very misleading text we had on login (before birthday event). Of course what the text should have more accurately stated was that there are 2000 items in the game of which you could choose to decorate with, NOT 'you can fill your home with 2000 items'!

I was very surprised to see the Caven had a limit of 700, the same as the notable large manors. It was a surprise as you can actually fit quite a few of these large manors within the Cavern... so it's prety crazy.

Designing the guild base has been a challenge. I soon learnt that any 'small' or 'standard' item is just lost in the base due to the sheer size of the Cavern. So the strategy I had to take was to use large and huge items only. I found that with 700 items, I could only concentrate on the 'structure' of the base and totally forget any desire to add detail. Even then, I continnuakky had to take down areas simply because I could not even finish main areas.

For a base that is about 6-9 times the size of a notable home, it really needs 6 times the amount of item space.

ZOS could of also made much more money out of me that way as most items were purchased via the Home Editor

EDIT: the invisible walls were also totally unessesary. Put the invisible walls outside the base. Use slaughter fish and the actual cavern walls to stop players from getting outside... putting invisible walls inside a cavern that actually HAS walls is just stupid and frustrating. I didn't buy the island because I had already made that mistake with the Cavern

I have claimed several times on the forums now that with the current item limit players actually cannot decorate manors and large houses with the same amount of detail that any city in the regular game world of ESO has.

I finally took the time today to "prove" my claim and as an example counted all objects on the first floor of Elden Root (not the ground floor, but the large hall one reaches after going through the door on the ground floor).

I was generous when counting some objects that players don't have access to and counted compounds of what probably would be several objects if they were available for player housing as just one. And I also ignored the 2 treasure vaults behind the bankers with many treasure objects and a troll inside. Counting that way I've counted what would be 704 furnishing items just on this one floor of Elden Root:

I also have to agree that the housing limit is far too low. Now I have bought both the cavern and the island and I will say that the only way to get these homes even looking partially full is with large to huge household items. I'm maxed on both my homes. Also if you really want your home to stand out you need to purchase hundreds of achievement furnishings. After a careful tally I found I spent 10,563,984 gold on both homes and an additional 15,000 crowns on items that are either too expensive to craft in bulk or are just plain unavailable to craft or buy with gold.

My cavern looks great despite the emptiness of some of its areas. But the other concern is lighting. Lighting in the cavern makes up half of my space used. A fourth of my space is used for constructs to add an arena and the last 4th of my space is general furnishings to include crafting stations. I had to resort to using giant rocks to fill the empty spaces to make the cavern seem less empty. And that's just my cave.

My island I removed all the natural furnishings and you wouldn't believe how empty the island is. Even before removing everything there was over 100 furnishings that make up the natural unfurnished island. I had to add an additional 200 trees to the grassy part of the island to make the island feel full adding an arena to this place made my home limit reach 400/700 now to deal with lighting and then actually decorating the multiple home spaces inside the island. You have 2 main homes on the island a big gazebo a dock and a wooden tower. Also the invisible walls that block us from some truly amazing spots I would have loved to use for guild purposes.

They need to double the housing limit to what it is now with eso plus and then double it again. So notable homes would have 1400 items. However this is also a problem because for some of these homes 700 furnishings causes home instabilities causing you to freeze then crash outside the game sometimes just loading into your home. Also the false advertisement of home space. When traveling into your little apartment room in vulkel guard you will notice the load screen has far more items in it than what you can place yourself and that's with eso +. So they need to increase cap and work on increasing the instance strength so you can actually enjoy your home and 3rd they need to allow people to select any of your homes to visit. I dont know about you but if you bought the cave and the island wouldn't you like your guildies to be able to visit both of them at thier leisure?

Serenity Falls furnished and i had to
    - Leave some areas completely empty.
    - remove little items.
    - remove books.
    - Replace bushes with large trees planted horizontally underground so that branches poke out as bushes.

I have forsaken Stronghold and Not Eso Plus. 300 items was plenty for me. I Plan on doing a 1 month sub if the luxory furnisher ever adds some orsinium stuff Like they have added for craglorn and hews bane. Until then im content with 300 limit. I got the place crammed with 13 thrones 5 Huge Tables and lots of large items that take up plenty of space. The house is definitely Full. I dont see a reason why they should add more items for non plus subscribers. If and when i 1 month sub, i will have 300 items to put on all the shelves and storage space that i decorated with. But that depends on the Luxory furnisher RNG. Ill just wait to see if it ever sells orsinium stuff.

But until then, housing is really only worth having if you have the banker and the merchant. Just having the dps dummies and the regular crafting stations alone without the npc's really makes housing a waste of time and money. And those npc's are WAY TO EXPENSIVE!

Actually, The only Limit that i Dont agree with is the player capacity for Forsaken Stronghold. That place could handle 24 people No Problem. Its bigger than the 3 manors and i could EASILY add 12 more thrones to my HUGE Table and seat everyone.

I own a large notable home in ESO but found housing so painfully boring I have made and decorated it with a sum total of 3 items.

Yes, bought a manor for 3m gold or whatever, started looking at crafting and decorating, realise this was literally like watching paint dry, and just gave up. The place is probably filled with Argonian squatters now. Well, good luck to them, I hope they have more fun there than I ever did.

Some players who want to do something special or design something special may need more space to do so. So the limit is simply too low. Not only for large/notable homes but for the smaller ones, too. I own a smaller one and have some ideas about decorating but I hit the limit pretty soon. More slots would be good for every home.
