Do you roleplay while questing?

Spaghettiknight
Like do you have certain characters who do certain things? My templars always do the "right" thing when available. But my current Altmer sorc does what's convenient. Do your characters have certain personalities/quest action preferences?

Sure, and my templar only does the "right" thing.
If that's not possible she ain't doing it.

Ok, this one time she didn't get left and right, right ... but then again, that's perspective I guess.

    Short answer.... hell yes B)

My main is a nord Templar, she started as an orphan street rat in Abah's landing, a thief and then an assassin, she's as dark as they come to begin with, waking up in the wailing prison was the beginning of her redemption more than anything. A monster becoming a saviour and finally a legend. The prophet gives her a reason to care essentially. I play it out by treating thieves guild and dark brotherhood as flashbacks. She's now every inch the heroic force of nature, bent on saving the world whether it wants it or not, she remains an utterly ruthless character, she won't kill without good reason, but give her a reason and they are just another corpse to pitchforked into the dirt o:)

The alts I tend to treat as promising recruits to her crusade, reliving her memories, simple enough really

Most of the time, yes. I try to play my characters in a certain way, i.e. in line with outline personality and character traits I set out at the start. Sometimes the quest choices and resulting actions jar with what I want to do. I wish that there were more options available to avoid combat in some situations.

Dear friend. Please let me remind you of the 4 abdominations:
    1) Daedra;
    2) werwolfs; 3) undead and
    4) vampires.

Templars of the Aedra do not have to pray, but fight these abdominaions whenever they spot them. No chance for any daedra to fool this templar.

(I really tried to jab her, once she revealed herself... but just like that other deadra she doesn't get aggro from someone throwing dmg at her :( ... very unsatisfying)

But... where was I ? ... Ah, what exactly did you want to tell the world about that daedric prince meridia?

    My character just spams 1,1,1,1,1,1,1

    Is that rude?

But, seriously. I do try to keep with the character, and I did my best to help the covenant when going 1-50. However, my advise to people when questing on the other two factions were always "kill yourself" or "quit the war" or "run away", secretly trying to help my original faction. It does feel weird for my poor immersions, though, to be standing right next to the Queen or the Skaldking and only thinking "crit rush, boom!" but only being able to say "sure, I'll help. BRB!"
So the playing in character gets hard to maintain. Also, at one point or another, I will "accidentally" go 1,1,1,1 and I will have no actual idea what's going on. Did I say the "right" thing? RP broken.

A lot of elder scrolls goes of visual associations. For example the great conspiracy of the worm cult to destroy tamriel, other than the dark anchors, is very much told using little hints, notes and even behaviour... along with the occasional dead body, to infer the presence of this vast web of plots behind the scene. One really good example is a little town west of dune in reapers march, recommend taking a long time to rummage through that little gem :)

Meridia is the only daedra associated with light, a light that purifies but also burns, this is the same motif that the templars use, they are warriors of purifying light but by definition they are also destroyers. There are hints in the lore books in game that also point to it but off hand I can't remember which ones

I generally think in-character when I'm doing quests on my main, and sometimes if the quest details or dialogue relate to her personal interests then I'll read a little more into the RP side of things (and if it hits really close to home, it might get a writeup in her headcanon journal). Her general values aren't too far from mine, and it's usually pretty easy to see what the "good" or "just" choice is. Sometimes she struggles a bit before she decides what to do, and a few times I've had to look up quest outcomes before I could make up my mind. But yeah, I generally go along with the relatively strong storytelling angles of ESO quests and treat them as part of my character's journey rather than just a means to get some exp to level up.

Yep, this is what I do, too.

It's what makes the game fun for me, to have all these different characters who experience the world in different ways. They all value different things and approach problems from different angles, so even repeating content for the umpteenth time isn't too dull when it has a fresh perspective on it.

Recently, this has been reflected in housing. Each of my characters has their own house (small to medium ones), and I've been decorating each to reflect the personality of the character it's associated with. It really gives a new dimension to this playstyle. :)

"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."

I'd like to say that my decisions are character based but I find that my own conscience wins out almost every time. I feel bad for killing people even though I try to look and act like an assassin to the end. I find that I am not the assassin that just kills for the fun of it but for purpose. I always think to myself "do they REALLY need to die?" "is this person a jerk?"

Perhaps that's a quality you should give your assassin character, then. Don't play to an archetype... just because they're an assassin doesn't mean they're going to be evil every chance they get. For example, my assassin doesn't steal, because she's a professional and such behavior is beneath her.

That, in itself, is part of the fun of roleplay: not blanket all good/bad decisions, but rather factoring the character's personal experiences into the decision.

Very good insight  I feel the same way. She wants to be a professional, not a blood-crazed lunatic. The contracts that she is given are done without shame or guilt, but she is not going to murder someone for fun. Although she will sometimes make her own judgments about NPC's and choose their death (when the questline allows) if she feels that they had too much of an attitude >:)

    Of course I role play.

I have comments and responses for NPCs and MOBs that fit the character. Although I do not voice them in a woman's voice if I am playing a female. My GF does wonder who I am talking to sometimes.

I have one character that has done the DB, all the rest won't. More will do the Thieves Guild, but most of them won't do that content. My DB Character takes all the "Jerk" choices in the quests. All my other characters tend to be nicer.
