What does negate magic actually negate? (2017)

I seen the fires in elden hollow 2... but that's about it. What else can it be used for?

    Not sure about most of pve.

    But in pvp basically every magicka skill. Apart from ones that are aoe and follow the user like hurricane and destro ult.

    I have every character level 50, both a magicka and stamina version.

    RIP my effort to get 5x v16 characters...

    It's a very powerful PvP ultimate, which is where it sees a lot of use.

    The "Silence" effect stops players from being able to cast magicka-based skills as well as ultimates.

    Negate Magic also dispels magicka/ultimate ground-based effects inside of it on cast (but not any effect applied on the ground afterward).

    For PvE it would mostly stun enemies and help remove enemy ground-based effects.

    If the gargoyles in Hel Ra have started their ground smash then negate will stop them from continuing.

    vMA 2nd Stage: prevents Centurions from entering "toilet mode"
    vMA 7th Stage: prevent Trolls from enraging (becoming BIG)
    vMA 9th Stage: prevents Crem Guards from breathing Fire, Silences the Ash Titan entirely.

    vHRC prevents Gargoyles from doing their Stomp which allows for easy stacking of adds.

    These are basically all of the significant things Negate does in "high end" PvE. It surely has tons of other functions in other not-so-high-end PvE areas (4-mans, etc. etc.)

    In PvP its a zerg wiper. Like literally. Prevents the use of ultimates and all magicka costing abilities as well as disspating any ground AoE's (Nova, Standard, etc.) present at the time of cast. In more practical terms: its shuts down healers, magicka bombers and clears any damage mitigation's/AoE buffs in the area. As well as dealing moderate fast ticking DoT damage or HoT.

    Still, its nothing compared to the former glory of the Great Negate...

    It removes the spinning aoes at the ground antronarch boss in vAA. Very helpful with los damage groups.

    Yes. You can negate an enemy negate. If I'm not mistaken, you can also negate the Stationary Destro-ultimate, if you use the negate after the stationary is already on the ground. But don't quote me on it, as I'm not 100% sure.

    Yeah, Elemental Rage can be silenced. Had that happen a couple of times...

    Also, NPCs can silence it: Sun Eaters in vMoL for instance

    You can Negate anything that's a ground based ability, so obviously Destro ult can get negated. Negate is also a ground based effect so it can be Negated also.

    yep, If you don't expect to get stomped by offensive ults, or it's who has the most negates up their sleeve
