Crit's on blocking targets.

I know Dots and some aoe go directly through block, and therefore can also crit.

But for the attacks that can be blocked, can they crit?

My understanding so far, has been that blocking negates crit, just like a damage shield. But after searching, i found a thread baxn from IC launch, where @asayre proved that you COULD infact crit on blocking target. Crit damage would just also get heavily mitigated.

What is the actual situation here?

Blocked attacks can still crit.

The first picture below shows this on the current Live server. I have a crit modifier of 0.66. The second picture shows the damage done without blocking. The blocking character doesn't have any blocking buffs so blocking reduces damage by 50%

For more info look here for anything in regards to damage mitigation, both for us and mobs.

But the crit surge heal does not proc from crits against blocking targets last time I checked...

Well by that logic you can crit shields aswell. It just gets mitigated to the point of dealing the "normal" dmg.

Mechanics that require crits work on blocking and shields.

The findings of asyare are interesting bc last time i´ve tested with surge and light attacks i did not notice any damage differences. Will check again when the server goes up.

Edit: Indeed everything crits on block. Since barely anyone noticed only goes to show how overperforming block really was/is
