Can't accept Master Writs

For the 2nd time in a row my blacksmith received a quest for a master writ, both times the game wouldn't let me accept it. Is it a glitch or is there something I'm missing? The very first writ ever received he was able to get, but unable to do so it has gone up for sale. Could that have something to do with it?

From what you have said you are only talking about blacksmithing writs and:

master writ 1 - looted but not accepted and sold
    master writ 2 - missing?
master writ 3 - found in inventory?

If this is the series of events make sure that master writ 2 didn't get accepted and is in your quest journal. If it is truly missing, vanished into thin air, I would put in a /help and/or /bug in game and see where it went because trying to loot it and it vanishing just shouldn't happen!

If you already have a master writ for a craft you cannot accept another one into your quest journal and it will go directly into your bag.

Also, if you use any addons that have to do with writs, check their options to see that they didn't add something to auto-decline the quest and put the writs directly into your inventory.

You can't accept a writ of the same type if you already have one active, but you can have more if they are from different professions. I get plenty of enchanting ones from my alt crafters, then store them in the bank and do them on my main so I can have all vouchers in the same place. I do those in turn.

Your description of the problem is a bit unclear. Selling a Sealed Master Crafting Writ does not affect whether a PC can or will receive another one in a reward container after completing another ordinary Crafting Writ. Also, a PC can have two or more Sealed Master Crafting Writs in the bank and/or in their bags at the same time, regardless of whether they are for identical items.

When a Sealed Master Crafting Writ is included in a reward container, after you open the container and accept the item(s), the game client displays a dialog. It asks whether you want to accept the Master Writ. If you respond with "Goodbye" the Sealed Master Crafting Writ will be stored in that character's bags (inventory). If you "accept" it, then it becomes a quest that is listed on the Journal UI in the Crafting Category as "A Masterful <whatever>".

A PC cannot have two identical Crafting quests at the same time. For example, you cannot have two Blacksmith ordinary crafting quests at the same time, or two Blacksmith Master crafting quests at the same time. A PC can have one ordinary Blacksmith crafting quest, and one Blacksmith Master crafting quest, at the same time though.

Note that a Player Character must be a Certified Master Crafter in order to craft a Masterful item. Sometimes I play one of two alternate characters, and both are certified to complete ordinary Crafting Writs. However, neither one can currently be certified to craft Masterful items. In my experience, I don't recall that they have ever received a Sealed Master Crafting Writ in a reward container after completing the quest for an ordinary Crafting Writ.

If I bought such a Sealed Master Crafting Writ, or have one in the bank that was received by one of my Certified Master crafting PCs, then it would not be possible for either of the two alts to Use it (then accept the quest offered in the ensuing dialog). That said, I've never tried to do that with one of them to see what does happen if someone does that.

I've been having a similar problem. I have 6 bs master writs in my inventory, when I try and accept one it says I can't have more than one of the same type as a quest, but I don't have any other master writ quests active.
    Officer - Shatner's Trade Dominion

Kiarra Shadow - Bosmer Farmer and Fisher
Nyx the Seductress - Breton Templar Healer
Hellia Kjersen - Nord Dragonknight Tank
    Fhajja - Redguard Sorceror DPS
Khariba-daro - Khajiit Night Blade Thief

Of course, your PC cannot have more than one of the six Blacksmithing Master Writ quests active at the same time. For each one, you must make the item, deliver it to Rollis Hlaalu, and receive the reward for it before you can accept another Blacksmithing Master Writ quest.

If the PC does not currently have a quest to make a "Masterful" weapon or piece of armor as a Blacksmith, and the software will not allow the PC to accept one, then that certainly could be a bug.

Have you used the Launcher Game Option menu to Repair Files? Although I would expect that the error message is output by the game host for the game client to display, but it might result from corruption of the game installation on your platform.

I finally was able to figure out it is an addon causing the problem. Thanks for your responses :-)

Sorry, don't remember now .. but think it was caused by out of date addons. Zos has since changed it so the master writ just goes in your inventory. I always check the inventory now after handing in writs ;-)

If anyone is looking in this thread who has this issue but without another active writ (which the game throws an explicit error for anyway so that's unlikely to cause confusion) and happens to have a bunch of crafting addons:

Lazy Writ Crafter has an option to prevent you from accepting master writs! This can be super confusing because it's just blocks the acceptance dialogue button, and LWC doesn't even offer any master writ functionality so it's not where someone would naturally look. You might expect the issue to be in WritWorthy or BanditsUI which is where I looked first.

I had turned it on because I thought it would give me an extra warning or prevent me from accepting it unless I'd already finished crafting it. Turns out it's a pretty questionable feature unless you can't heed the existing dialogue and never do any master writs at all!
