Ice shards and sleet storm scaling

Both of these, warden ice skills state that their damage is scaled off of max health. I'm curious how that's going to work exactly, though - the detail is a bit lacking in the tooltips.

Currently, spells scale off a formula of spell power and max magicka. Buffs like major sorcery improve the damage of spells by effecting one half of the formula (spell power), while the other half can be boosted via attributes.

So what I want to know is if the max health scaling for these spells is just replacing the magicka part of the formula - will major sorcery and spell power still improve their damage?

It's probably just to prevent warden from being a full on assault class and making these skills more suited for tanking only.. can't have best of both world's.

    This ^^^ @DRXHarbinger has a good thought.

Also, recall Zos said the class would make a good OT or off heals. They maybe looking at a hybrid doing damage and helping tank.

Further, Zos has indicated they are looking to make it more appealing to us to add some health vs just stack magika or stam. This would not really be the reason for it to scale off max health but could make it more beneficial when Zos does make the change.

I mean I'm fine with it scaling from health, but Im wanting to know if spell power will still have an effect, especially the major sorcery buff.

Probably the same way spells like Igneous Shields scale off of Max Health. I am actually excited about more viable "health" classes, to compete with and add more diversity to the current magicka or stamina choices.

I like this. I want to make my Warden an Orc tank and I won't have to waste many attribute points into magicka.

The problem lies in the ambiguous tool tip. Igneous shield makes sense because there's no damage component to it.

All I'm trying to figure out is if the major sorcery buff will still effect these skills. It should, according to how most abilities have their damage calculated, but I'm not sure in this case.

Doesn't sound like it would. It buffs your spell damage and if those skills are calculated by using heath instead then it goes to reason like it wouldn't affect them at all.

I don't think major sorcery has any effect on blazing shield, so my guess is it would be they same for these skills.

From what I remember from the playtest I did at ZOS the Wardens Abilties that scale of Max HP is not affected by anything but Max HP and Major and Minor Brutality. Cause Major and Minor Brutality increases ANY damage or at least they should. Empower should work on it too. However, you mentioned sleet storm, that's the ultimate, it doesn't scale of Max HP, it scales just like all the other ultimates on either Max Mag/Spell Damage or Max Stam/Weapon Damage, depending on which is stronger. Arctic Wind and Ice Shards are the only 2 that scale of Max HP.

Sleet Storm scales off of your highest attributes like all ultimates - Either Weapon Dmg+Max Stam or Spell Dmg+Max Mag. Not off of Max Health.

Impaling Shards scales off of Max Health. It seems to *only* scale from Max Health though.

My reasoning is this: Whenever a skill can morph from Magicka to Stamina, it states in the extra gree-text description upon morphing that the skill will begin scaling with Max Stamina and Weapon Damage. In other words, it specifies all of the changes that will be made to it.

Impaling Shards only scales from Max Health, though likely by a lot.

That's my view on it :)
