When are you going to realize we need 2 mega servers?

If the 2nd server had PvP in all zones, then yes.

That could be cool. The smaller overall population density and load might make pvp way easier with lag. It'd be a sweet opertunity to adjust how skills work inside/outside pvp/pve so that everything is balanced and scaling properly.

I'm all for skills costing different amounts/damage/duration without being a lazy blanket nerf. Ii think a 2nd server could really benefit the game if used in such a way. It would in the long run be a better 'do-over' then adding convoluted leveling/skill mechanics and merely cutting them out later on when it's already too late.

There are 2 prerequisites in which 2 mega servers can work.

    1. Players can freely move between servers anytime they want.

    2. Both servers offer vastly different modes of play. The former offers PvP/PvE hybrid play throughout 1T, the latter only PvE.

That being said, it would just be a more expensive version of the 'Toggle PvP on/off' version, the difference only being if PvE players can see PvP players, for the sake of immersion.

Don't want this. I enjoy having more players in the server.

From what I hear the lag isn't due to the number of people anyway, so why bother.

An Oceanic megaserver would make more sense than a NA West. I'm sure players on the West are playing just as good as those in the East. Australians, however...

Now that is a good idea. Although I have some good friends from Australia, New Zealand and Singapore playing, I am sure they would like an environment with less lag.

    THIS. That is all.

This THIS. I play various games that are responsive and where I feel that my actions are a direct reflection of my keystrokes... and then I log on to ESO with a 350+ ping (at best) and have to get used to hoping that skills connect, or blocks go up in time, and just generally feeling sluggish.

    Meh. Gnah too.

Looks like everyone disagreeing with the OP. Lol. Why do we need a West coast and east coast megaserver? I play on consoles and if we get a West and East coast megaservers it would hurt our population and will not be able to play with all the west coast friends I've meet. Are PC megaservers that over populated?

Actually, I think during events they should lower the threshold on creating a new instance. If it's 400 before a new instance, then drop it to 300 or even 200. Sure, you'll use more resources for the extra instances, but at the same time the "mega" server won't be serving up as many instances of other zones because of the concentration of players in the event zones.

Almost 70% of the Oceanic population I'm going to say would stay on the NA server. I know I would, I'm so used to the ping and have a bunch of good friends. I don't think they'd make an Oceanic server cause of that reason

I'd take low ping any day of the week. I can always make new friends, or play with them on other games :)

You do know that the Mega Servers are hosted by Amazon Web Services. A platform that allows for and facilitates adding more server capacity as needed, on the fly, with no time consuming infrastructure changes. With that in place, what would splitting up the servers between east and west accomplish? Nothing.

I did not know this, well, maybe more servers is not the answer, What would help stability and functioning of the game then?

We've got a plan. It will be better than before, cover more people and cost less. It'll be terrific! America is going to be GREAT again! Not a mega server, but a Hooooj-server!! It'll be great I tell ya! Trust me.

And the Mexicans will pay for it. Yes they will, yes they will.

No. I think ESO is still hosted on dedicated hardware, owned or leased by ZOS, located in Germany and Texas. It is not a cloud game. I am not sure what @Nestor is referring to.

^^^ is the answer. We have 6 mega servers as it is. Dividing NA into 2 servers would no longer be mega and one of them would be empty since most will not move.

We do not need more servers. At least on the NA side of things... If anything we just need to have more redundancy/ less downtime due to "servers going down" and more consistency with latency.

I'm not saying it's bad, and overall I've been very happy with the servers. There are just small bursts of times where the game lags out or loading screens freeze and I have to relog. ~1% of the time, so it's not a huge deal.

Plus sometimes you need that extra kick to actually get up and go do something else other than game 24/7

But Boris and Farage promised we would take back control, how can we have control over our game if the servers are located in Germany?

I should probably stop this joke before I start an actual political debate and people get mad.

    @lordrichter

Cloud is just a metaphor for the Internet, anything done in the internet is done in the cloud. I can't find the ZOS news article that talks about this (or maybe it was a Dev Post), but AWS has server farms all over the world, including Texas. They offer scalable server platforms to many companies. This is why ZOS was able to increase the capacity so quickly when they launched. If this was dedicated server space, more on that in a moment, was because of AWS. You need more blades, you make a phone call, or send an email. If this was dedicated space in a data center, your looking at weeks, probably months to increase server space with ordering times, racking, powering and cooling concerns, etc. I have been designing networks into data centers, colo's and the like for the past 3 years, time frames on these projects are maddening to say the least.

Just because AWS hosts something does not mean its a "cloud service" in the lay sense. It also does not mean that AWS controls the servers, they are dedicated to ESO just like a house you rent is dedicated to you.

Just run a Tracert to the ESO servers, you will see that AWS is the last hop. In Dallas/Fort Worth
