Mac just restarted after a long ESO Session - Did the game cause this?

I played ESO for about 5 hours tonight, and when I logged off, my computer force restarted itself soon after quitting the game.

I am running off an SSD so the restart was almost instant. When it came back no error message popped up on the screen.

I am running off a 5K iMac with M395 graphics, i5 6600 and 8gb of RAM.

Did ESO cause my iMac to crash? If so, is this serious?

just to add I just remembered I did have chrome open the whole time that was downloading something for an extended period of time (2 tabs left open).. and textedit was open, but no other applications were open.

The game was running fine the whole time on high settings. Did my Mac crash, and if so, is it serious?

Maybe the GPU hit a thermal threshold after this prolonged gaming session? Were the fans running at full speed? Do you run any hardware monitoring software like iStats Menu, where you can look at various internal temperatures?

Yes I have iState Menus.

I just don't know if that was it because I play daily and sometimes for longer than that. The only difference today is I had that download running

Well, if the game wasn't running anymore at the time the system decided to reboot, it can hardly be the culprit.

You might want to look whether there are crash reports of this incident. Look into

~/Library/Logs/CrashReports

if there are any to be found. You can also use Console.app in /Applications/Utilities to easily browse for them.

I have a similar issue in that my mac sometimes goes to sleep unexpectantly while playing ESO. Is this a similar issue?
