Hello, my friend just bought the game and we want to play together as questing, PVE and more. My question is should he pick a race from my alliance or not and WHY ?

If you both plan to do PvP together in future yes he needs to be the same faction (alliance) as you.

If he gets a pre-order code or buys the explorers back from the Crown Store he can choose any race in any alliance.

If you both plan to never PvP then your faction won't matter past where it places you both in the world after the tutorial (each faction has a starting island they will be placed on, but you can just quick travel to one another to go to wherever you want to both start)

If you want a pre-order code to apply to his account I have one spare, I can't guarantee it still works as I have offered it out a few times now, but each person said they never used it.

There are quests in Cyrodiil and Imperial City, and those two locations are pvp areas.
If you are in 2 different alliances then when you enter pvp location this will happen:
    you can not:
    • group together
    • share quests (sometimes NPC gives 2 players different quests, so if you or your friend abandon 1 quest, other can share his quest so you can continue to play on the same quest, instead of being split..)
    • spawn at same location when you die, Cyrodiil and Imperial City are big locations and it will split you up from start, if any of you die then you get split up again.
    • trade items
    and you can:
    • damage eachother
    • kill eachother

There are minor things, such as what house you get for free that will be in different locations, if you are of two different alliances. There have previously been bugs in ESO, where players of different alliances could not recieve buffs from eachother in pve areas, these bugs are fixed ...but it's ZOS, sometimes bugs return with new patches and DLC's, so I wouldn't trust it.

Just go for the same alliance to avoid problems and whatnot.

Be aware, certain quests in ESO are solo. The main quest, Fighters Guild and Mage Guild are mostly solo, and you get teleported into a solo instance... while you can be in group with your friend + see his marker on map, you will not see them or be able to fight with them.

Ideally yes - it is best to play in the same alliance.

While it mostly doesn't matter, because of one tamriel scaling, you will find some quests are still locked to your alliance. These include all the main story quests and guild quests (most of these are solo instanced, but some can be completed together). Also the free house you get is locked to your alliance, as is the quest to receive.

None of these are particularly significant. The only things you might notice on a daily basis would be that you get sent to different places to hand things in (e.g. undaunted dailies, crafting writs), but you CAN actually hand them in at any alliance, you just won't immeadiately get the map marker directing you.

Plz note. This is all for PVE. If you plan on doing any PVP together (and you should, it is awesome) then you HAVE to be in the same alliance. Hope thats clear.

You also have to be at the same point in the story if you want to do the main quests together, many quests are not repeatable so if you have done it and your friend hasn't he/she won't be able to join you.
