How to get skill points for a crafter?

One of my characters is a dedicated crafter. He has just enough combat skills unlocked that he can get through a basic fight if he needs to (and an excellent set of weapons and armour of course) but he spends most of his time crafting and all of his skill points go into the craft skill lines.

I'm now running into a problem where because he's not doing quests or finding sky shards and he's barely levelling up he's got getting skill points so I can't improve his crafting skills.

I'm just wondering what's the best/easiest way to get extra skillpoints for him. Should I do skill point quests? Find sky shards? Grind to level 50? A mix of all of them? Is there another way I haven't thought of?

I don't mind what the answer is, I just don't want to waste a lot of time following one method if another one is better.

Edit: Also as a related question where does an AD crafter eventually have to go to turn in max level writs? I was going to have him live in the apartment on Auridon but I realised it'd actually make more sense for him to live in/have a free teleport close to where he needs to drop off writs.

All top level writs are handed in at craglorn . However if you below lvl 50 but have 50 in a crafting skil it's rawl Kha for ad characters
Skyshards are the best way to get skill points without questing . Also public dungeon group events give them as do main story line quests

    1. Sneak around outdoors and in delves to get skyshards. Go visit other alliances to do the same thing. Careful map study/prep and sneaking can help. Even more help if you get a more combat-oriented friend to help escort you.

Or. . . if you might reconsider things. . .

    2. Use a retired fighting character as your crafter. Just research stuff as they 'grow up'. Once ready for retirement, they should have plenty of skillpoints for a respec to crafter.

    3. The game actually does have enough skillpoints that one character can ultimately fight very competently and master all crafts. Even more so if you give, say, enchanting and alchemy to a second character.

I recommend leveling to 50 first, so you can use CP. That will make it easier to do other content. There are many sources of skill points and you must decide for yourself which you want to pursue. I would think sky shards are the easiest to chase as overland mobs and delve bosses are easy to solo. If you can join, or organize, a large group, the Cyrodiil and IC sky shards are a quick source of skill points. Public dungeon group events, main quest, and alliance quests are the next tier to chase. Finally, group dungeons, Craglorn delves, and PVP ranks are the more difficult skill points to gain. Even without leveling your crafter, none of this content should pose too great a challenge given the current battle leveling. If you decide to level to 50, the main quest and alliance quests all give a lot of XP as well as skill points, and first time dolmens also give a lot of XP.

No character needs to be limited to either/or. There are enough skill points to have an effective end game alt that can also be a max leveled crafter. My first character is my master crafter (100% crafting achievements before Homestead) and does dungeons, trials, and PVP.

    Thanks. :)

I guess I'll start hunting for Skyshards then, might even install the addon. I'll also work my way through the delves and public dungeons.

On my crafter, I focused on skills first so she could keep questing, but was sure to keep her research time reduction points and also the refining skill points at the highest level her crafting level would allow.

Eventually she had enough skill points to do all crafting at max level, plus she heals Trials, and can also go full dps (although I am still practicing the rotations). I am working on an off-tank setup now, as well, so I will hopefully be able to do all three roles by switching up gear and champion points only.

Most of her skill points are from leveling, skyshards, and the main questlines (prophet plus factions), although she does have a few from PvP and the DLC questlines. If you are prudent in how you spend them, you can do a ton with the skill points provided in game.
