Not a fan of the very Korean-style Cash Shop implementation of it.

    The options are:
    1. Grind to earn the gold, do the intro quest, and then grind out achievements, as many as 3, if a house is wanted in different faction areas and those achievements haven't been earned, yet.

    2. Spend real money on the crown store and conveniently bypass all that.

It's the classic case of "make the non Cash Shop method grindy and inconvenient, so the cash shop alternative will seem more favorable, and people are more likely to pull out the credit card".

It's a manipulative, cash-grabby tactic that's obnoxious enough in true F2P games, but worse when it's done in a B2P game, and moreso if you're also paying a subscription on top of that.

Homestead was not designed to benefit the players. It's designed to benefit ZeniMax.

No. I think it's too time consuming and frankly speaking the fact that I need sometimes 2-3 different professions in order to create an item is not realistic.

Improvements are very much needed, but it's a good start. I do not think this is the final product and want to see what direction they go with it. I was expecting there to be plenty of cash shop shortcuts and there certainly are those. I think the slow nature of gathering plans and new mats would have been better received if the game was not already almost three years old.

To me it is kind of a non-issue it is an option in the game to take part in, not needed to play, they did about a bad job as I figured they would a little better than the barber shop, my biggest disappointment is the lack of utility with the house, no storage not being able to display your armor sets, I think they did a good job with the housing editor and being able to decorate, that is the only high point I can see at least for me. There is room for improvement but don't hold your breath.

Could be fun but feels lifeless, I am afraid to craft something that I don't like... As materials are too rare. So my hype is still here but quite deflated. As it stands not healthy for creative people who were the target audience.

    It is fun and interesting.

The way of making and crafting like any other object. But the fact that it is only for cosmetic purposes, there is not other real use rather than just being there for knowing I have a house. A plain house in which I cannot use it like a bank. There should be items in particular that can allow you to place items in particular in the housing. Not convert housing as a bank.

    For example:

Having a house for placing armors that you picked on your travels and you want to research but knowing your bank is full, you have the option of your house to place them. And other items that you cannot place in the bank, or want to have space in your bank for other stuff, and having a house with items that allow such other items to be transferred to the housing could be beneficial. I got into housing I never cared about it in the first place, but getting into it to not have those features in it. Left me amazed on how bland this feature is.

But at the moment there is no benefit for me as a player to even own a house other than just say that you have it. It needs to be improve for sure.

I thing the housing editor is great. I think that the houses are reasonably priced.

I like the crafting system - just not the numbers associated with it. I also would have made it have its own, new crafting table rather than splitting it between others.

    Material counts are too high.

Furniture cost is too high (Both crown store and in-game guild-traders)

The number of furniture items accessible to a new character is too low.

Unfortunately, these drawbacks ruin the whole experience, which i had been quite looking forwards to...

I love the idea behind housing, I've been looking out for its release for weeks.
My personal opinion is: if I can get it in game through regular gameplay, I don't spend a penny on it.
The problem with housing is, as @Preypacer mentioned, getting a house and furnishing is done by extreme grinding or real life money. That makes up for a lot of grinding for me..

And if the grinding itself isn't enough, rng hates me and the drop rates seem quite low.

Overall the idea is good but the actual gameplay itself can be improved.

I don't vote since, the way it's presented, it will show over 90% unhappy for whatever reason.

That being said, the recipe/diagram drop rate is fine, but the material drop rate is FAR TOO LOW. We should be eager to find new diagrams to craft new stuff and try them, instead we're discouraged of all because the mats are too rare.

Although I don't go along with people condemning a system when they've only had a day or two to try it out, I suspect there is both room for improvement and the will on the developers' part to improve it. They made it clear on the recent ESO Live that this is the launch version with a lot more to come.

I'm sure, for example, that they will study the metrics on the finding of patterns and mats as well as the amount of crafting being done and will make adjustments over time. As it is, however, I'm enjoying it.

I don't expect to locate all the patterns and craft the entire contents of several manors within the first few days of the update launching - which is what some on the forum seem to be complaining about!

No but I created a thread as I personally wanted home building and not furniture crafting

I like the plans drops and all but furniture should be as simple as having the plan and buying via gold from certain NPCs, quest progress and in game content drops.

Anything more detracts from what I think many wanted.

In terms of the design of furniture crafting
-upgrading shouldn't be a thing, it's furniture not gear

-materials shouldn't be a thing unless the loot drops were drastically increased to support both housing and gear

-writs still are a complete waste of materials. We don't need additional material sinks....unless you enjoy grinding 5 days a week for hours you'll always run out after crafting good stuff

I like it a lot but there is definitely some room for improvement. The amount of mats vs the drop rate needs to be adjusted for the furniture specific mats and I would like to see furniture that is interactive. Chests and wardrobes that open and can store items, stuff like that.

I love it, and the more days that pass, the more I enjoy it. Just one thing though, either crafting has right now way too many mats to craft things, or the drop rate of the materials (such as heartwood) needs to be increased.

Houses themselves are fine - except the obvious lack of storage functionality.

Furnishing on the other hand is far too much like a Korean Uber-Grind-To-Make-You-Spend-Money mechanic.

I'm reserving judgment at the moment.

I think a system like this needs time to age. Like with the other crafts, you need time to gather up all the materials required. Like with Provisioning in particular, you need to have spent a few zones gathering a variety of recipes and materials to really start seeing what it can do.

This is clearly intended as a long-term system, which is why it seems like a slow grind right now. But if you started the game on your first character, and all you cared about was creating endgame gear, that would seem like a grind, too.

I think, in a month or two, this will feel a lot less grindy and more in line with the other crafting skills. But because it's new and shiny and we're so focused on it, we haven't had time to accumulate the materials that regular play of the game will provide.

So... ask me in a month.

Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

Homestead was not designed to benefit the players. It's designed to benefit ZeniMax.

You're not wrong, but I feel like there's a difference between creating a game with a system like this and adding it in years down the line. As polls on the forum showed many people had more than enough gold to buy at least one house before the update was even released. Some had enough to buy all 3 of the most expensive on day 1. Likewise many people will have finished those achievements months or years ago, or at least will have made progress towards them and have enough experience playing that they can accurately judge what it will take to finish it. And for those like me who haven't reached that point it's something to work towards.

Think of it like horses - I remember when the game first came out on PC there were many people who felt like 42k gold for a horse was an impossible goal they'd never reach, even the 10k for the basic horse seemed daunting. Some people even called it pay-to-win because the Imperial Edition gave you access to a horse for 1g. These days people can make 42k in a day, even I could get it in a couple of months and I don't even have a max level character yet.

I also feel like this is a lot more acceptable given that housing, in it's present state, is almost entirely cosmetic. You don't miss out on anything if you don't have a house so there's no pressure to get it right away, or at all. If you don't want to grind out the achievements or gold you can simply not do it and the worst that will come of it is that you don't have a free wayshrine in that area.

I completely understand that some people really like cosmetics and going without the ones they want is frustrating, I am one of those people (5 mounts, 8 costumes, 12 pets and counting) but even so, just like I was able to live with crafting while wearing full plate mail because I hadn't found the right clothes in-game and there wasn't a perfect costume in the store yet I can live with only having the tiny inn rooms until I can save up enough gold and do the achievements to get a house.

    No.

Very limited functionality (compared to housing in other games, some of which go back a decade or more) along with a massive grind in-game to promote the cash shop bypass.

Also highly dislike they changed the DLC / ESO+ model at the same time, so we went from getting 4 DLC a year (the first few of decent size) to no DLC from Q3'16 till Q3'17 (and both of those being small 2 dungeon DLCs).

Had we continued to see paid DLC play-able content each quarter with housing included in one, I'd at least rate it as meh (because of the limited functionally) - but being the only new 'content' and mostly a glorified cash grab it is pretty pathetic.

It could of been great. The basic system they implemented is pretty good.

The problem I see, is that it is totally inaccessible and a huge grind.

I predicted this before it even got onto PTS:

Housing is the perfect system to work alongside a cash shop (crown store) and RNG boxes (crown crates). They made it grindy for a reason: Push players into buying more crowns. Get ready for a lot of housing goodies in the next crate season or whatever it is called.

That is the sad part. Otherwise it could of been something great - now it unfortunately is not, so I will just ignore it all together because it is purely cosmetic and there is almost no function (another fault of the system).

Oh and please don't tell me about target dummies. Those should of been in the game since release ffs.
