Housing huge disappointment

I am a little under whelmed with the housing, about the only useful item is the skeleton. The other items such as the crafting stations and decorations are just not worth home ownership.

I use the crafting stations primarily for writs and if I have to go and get them, then I might as well go to Shornhelm or similar where the writ boards, banker and crafting stations are close together. I also have access to the blacksmiths for repair and sales.

Haven't actually played it yet being on console, but I am a fan of investing large amounts of time into either constructing or developing really cool homes when games allow it. I'm really disappointed to see that they are not only limiting how many objects we can place, but limiting us to such an underwhelming capacity. I know this may not be the top complaint so far but I just can't see myself doing something amazing with the current limitations. I wouldn't even mind paying the ridiculous prices being asked for some of the more furnished or exclusive offers if they allowed us to have ten times the current capacity.

Not everything turns out the way you hope. You better get used to it. That's life. Complain all you want. Even if they make improvements to the system, the way eveyone on the forums is moaning, you all sound like something new disappoints you every week. Like dysfunctional children.

I bought a house. I decorated it a bit. Getting lots of furniture will be a grind and expensive. I don't care. I'll be playing for at least a year. I don't need a fully furnished house within 24 hours of feature launch. Everyone needs to put on their big boy underwear and stop complaining so much. The system isn't what you hoped. Adapt to it, constructively help improve it, or walk away.

Your comment adds nothing to the conversation. We're all trying to have a constructive conversation about the ways in which Housing can be improved and you call us "dysfunctional children?" What really strikes me as dysfunctional and childish is that you feel the need to inhibit others trying to found a constructive dialogue and provide feedback to ZoS on how they can improve their product.

Got my free room at the inn . . .
Collecting crafting recipes on my crafter . . .
I'm going about Homestead in a progression type manner
Won't spend crowns for a house (and if you do spend the crowns to get a fully furnished house you may feel that empty unfulfilled feeling because you didn't have to do a thing in game to get that house)
So yeah I like it so far.

I previewed all of the housing on the PTS and was left feeling underwhelmed.

They left me unenthusiastic for a homestead.

I have plenty of gold to buy any of the large mansions but have yet to and probably will not as the grind to get items is as bad as the houses look.

ii spent 11,000 on the overlook manor and find out i cant purchase any of the achievement furniture because i have a 11 mill bounty and the vendors wont talk to me.... i have an active ticket with customer support, but i cant tell you how livid and frustrated i am right now with this update. this might be the last straw for me if they are unwilling to assist me.

so far 24 hours have past and have only gotten 2 auto response emails from them... not happy.

I *will* say this, the houses were underwhelming to me because I felt like they got a bit lazy in the world editor.. You can see the edges of the square brush they used to paint on the cobblestone walkway over the grass.

I've seen more creative landscape blending in the Sims by "amateurs" so I wasn't really impressed...

That said, it's their first iteration. Look how much prettier Wrothgar is compared to Auridon. When they come back to it, it'll be improved.

Also the shapes of these first houses, as were discussed, are just cut and paste of the most common houses. There are much more "unique" looking structures in the game (towers, multilevel Bosmer trees, cottages with docks) and I wouldn't be surprised if those come in the next batch.

Just use your inn room for furniture storage and rack up those recipes and mats in the mean time. Good things are on the way, I gotta believe it.

The only thing you've brought to the conversation is that you're disappointed how housing looks. Using words like "useless" and "boring". There is nothing useful about these comments. They are just complaining. You are suggesting no improvements to the system. Nothing you've said is "useful".

That they have the audacity to put a real life price tag on a building that they simply right clicked on in another city, selected 'copy' went over to an area, right clicked and selected paste. Yes, this is what they did.

Which is insane when you consider they want to sell those copy pasted houses to you for a hundred dollars unfurnished. They couldnt even be bothered to make you a new unique home for you, the player character.

    True! True!
what is offered so far is by far way to expensive to buy and looks and feels cheap as...

    however!
only time will tell what ZOS make out of it.

    My guess?
if players do not spend enough real credits to buy these (xxxx) dwellings offered now, then someone will get off their rear end and design something decent.

From experience: It was the same in many other games I played.

So please be patient and let us see what the year reveals.

Until then: the rest of the Game is still there to play.

    Have fun :)

The one thing that disappoints me the most is the lack of storage. I don't know about the rest of you but I need some warehouses gosh darn it! :) When I played Oblivion, I had every house in every town and the Wizard's Tower and filled every container with items. I had stuff stashed all over. Now, maybe they will add this in the future with the ability to purchase some crates or chests or something like that. That would be awesome if they did. I was pleased to read that you will be able to place crafting stations in your houses. That is going to be the first thing I put there. No more running to town just to craft and then having to run to different buildings for different disciplines. They will all be as centrally located in my house as they can be. It will be one stop shop.

I did feel a little disappointed that the architecture of the houses wasn't all that different from other houses in the game but it isn't all that surprising. Just look at all the similarity you see among the "NPC" houses in each town/area. They all share the same architecture and I am sure ZOS was thinking about this when they created many of the houses. I will agree that the Daggerfall Manor is really just a copy and paste of the castle but they did add a full basement and a back door to the sea which I like (I have to have a basement in my houses for some reason). Despite the copy and paste nature of that house, it is the only one I really like but I am not spending 13,800 crs for it at normal crown store prices. I am either going to grind for the gold or wait for a 50% crown sale.

The housing editor could be a bit better but I did find that using a gamepad (XboxOne Elite on PC) with it seems to be pretty easy. I haven't done the keyboard and mouse version yet. I did end up getting a candle stuck in a window/wall (Surface Drag was off) such that it is now half in the wall and half out and I cannot select it anymore in the editor. I am guessing it is stuck behind a boundary that keeps you from going through the wall and the editor can't "see" it. The one suggestion I could make for the editor is a list of placed items so we could select an item, see where it is in the room and put it away. This would let me fix the candle quite easily. To avoid this in the future, I think the key is to have Surface Drag turned on. That seemed to keep items from going through walls and floors.

In general, I like the addition of the housing. I wasn't expecting much for this initial release so maybe I wasn't as disappointed as some. I figured this wasn't going to be fully baked coming out, I mean they decided to drop 39 houses into the game (here is where some of the cookie cutter approach came from). If I would have been ZOS I would have chosen a few less, maybe a third the number, make them a bit more unique and more useful. Honestly, now that Morrowind has been announced, I'd prefer to wait for a house in Morrowind. I always did like that little island. Bring back the Mudcrab Merchant!

I'm thrilled with the update, only I wish more of the small and medium homes had yards, or bigger yards. And there was one house that had a nice big yard, but then the house was super small ... it was a medium home that was technically the size of a small home, but with a big yard, for a medium-sized home's price.

Meh. It is what it is. *Shrugs*

And I wish the master crafting writs were easier to get. I'm having fun with the non-master furniture writs, though.

Ok so you mean to tell me that Zos is making people pay upwards 100's of dollars for a home/s that has already been in the game? That is insane!

Actually, the bigger costs involved in the first release to zos are not from the house layouts. Its from all the new systems taken from the developers side, repurposed or rebuillt from scratch to allow players to alter "terrain" on their own.

As they have ssid the primary focus of the release was to get the foundation systems in place that they csn now use as they add more and more.

My biggest complaint is that the most expensive houses - costing upwards of $100 or more - are nothing more than three empty floors. Sure, you can decorate them with ridiculously overpriced furniture, or spend the next 6 months grinding enough of the new mats and recipes to make a few rudimentary pieces of furniture, but at the end of the day, the empty houses are still fundamentally lacking. They aren't canvases I want to decorate, they are boring, uninspired templates of pre-existing in-game buildings. There is nothing fancy about even the fanciest house. A main hall, a staircase, a "basement" and a lame balcony is not worth any amount of real currency.

(No doors either, what is that about?)

The Housing Update is a disappointment. I got the free room just to do the quest. I furnished it with a small table, stool and candle to get access to the room and see what it looked like. To me without storage Housing is a waste of my time.

I thought most of the homestead rollout was ok, the houses are decent. Not awesome, but not horrible (even though copy pasted from other homes, I'm fine with that). But a little disappointed in the furniture. We should be able to buy all white furniture at every vendor to put basic tables, benches, chairs, etc in homes and worry about crafting the green/blue/purple/gold pieces.

Frankly the whole thing has become more of a cash grab than I expected. ZoS is starting to do more and more of the technicality of putting things in a game to say they are only on store, but then making them extremely hard to get (or grindy to get) to make the store way more appealing. I think the weight is a little too shifted with this now and needs to even out a bit.

Guild effort to buy EP manor. Some guildies dislike what we got for our coin. I expected bigger space inside. That tower lava view is nice. Not sure if I would buy this for myself ever, even if storage is added. Only if storage space would be related with how big is a house, I guess.

The only thing that has bugged me so far is the limit on how many pets/mounts you can place (about 10) so if you have 10 mounts in the courtyard and/or inside, you can't place any pets, if you have 10 pets about inside you can't place any mounts. I think I have 6 mounts and 4 pets displayed, but I would like to place more. I have plenty of room so I don't see why not.

I like it but it needs more features, it feels a bit like a beta atm. Mounts, pets and assistants should go through their animations, and be given extra idle animations imo. I feel a bit sorry for my big cat collection just standing in the sun with rigid legs staring straight ahead, when I know that cats do love to lounge around so much. I would like to be able to interact with bookshelves to read stuff if I so desire. I was sad not to be able to loot nightstands/baskets/etc but I understand why we can't. When I look outside of my home boundaries I would like to be able to see the same mobs and creatures that I can see when I leave my house, the landscape looks so bare right now.

I also like serenity falls the most and opted for that place because of all the outside space. Before I got to preview them though I was sure I was going to choose the daggerfall manor, but the outside space is underwhelming and the views are bad, even from the tower. Having explored them all I would actually choose the ebonheart manor over the daggerfall one, there is something comforting about the rumbling of the volcano. I'm pretty happy with serenity falls now though.

I haven't played TESO for a while but this new housing update was very promosing and was waiting for months for this update. I have 12.000 crowns and was really looking into buying a notable house.

So, first i planned to buy Daggerfall Overlook but it was a huge disappointment. No yard, ugly looking, boring and inside is just sooo small with a akward house design. Ebonheart chateau has a better yard but the house design is still akward. The best notable house is Serenity Falls Estate because of the nice looking yard with some water and a little bridge but yet again, strange house design, inside feels boring.

This is a huge disappointment, i expected more landscape, bigger yards, more room inside houses etc. It was so dissappointment for me that i have stop looking for a player house, i even stopped looking at other "smaller" houses. I just wanted a bigger yard, more rooms, small lake with beautiful flowers and trees, bigger houses etc.

This isn't worth my crowns like almost everyting els.

Who is feeling the same way?

And no, i'm not here to hate the game. This is still one of the best MMORPG game that i ever played but this housing update is just a huge disappointment for me.

As i can member, there was a quest line on a small Island with a party going on. I was expecting more like that.. I can't member which quest it was.

I hear there are some exclusive ones coming into the crownstore soon.

I am disappointed on the interior of nearly every house. They are simply too small with often just one single room. No cellar, no attic, no kitchen ... unless you'd pay for the most expensive manors - and then others have already reported that the maximal number of items are way less to furnish these large houses properly.

When I am going to spend my money for a house, I expect to have at least no inventory space issues anymore. I mean what is the purpose of not letting us have storage room? The current inventory management is very annoying.

So what needs to be done at least: Reduce the amount of money for bag upgrades and bank upgrades and give houses enough storage room in proportion to their cost.

Furthermore, as others have pointed out, the houses need more utility, like experience bonus if you stay/rest in your home for some time etc.

Until the situation does not improve I am not in a hurry to purchase a home.
