Housing huge disappointment

I haven't played TESO for a while but this new housing update was very promosing and was waiting for months for this update. I have 12.000 crowns and was really looking into buying a notable house.

So, first i planned to buy Daggerfall Overlook but it was a huge disappointment. No yard, ugly looking, boring and inside is just sooo small with a akward house design. Ebonheart chateau has a better yard but the house design is still akward. The best notable house is Serenity Falls Estate because of the nice looking yard with some water and a little bridge but yet again, strange house design, inside feels boring.

This is a huge disappointment, i expected more landscape, bigger yards, more room inside houses etc. It was so dissappointment for me that i have stop looking for a player house, i even stopped looking at other "smaller" houses. I just wanted a bigger yard, more rooms, small lake with beautiful flowers and trees, bigger houses etc.

This isn't worth my crowns like almost everyting els.

Who is feeling the same way?

And no, i'm not here to hate the game. This is still one of the best MMORPG game that i ever played but this housing update is just a huge disappointment for me.

As i can member, there was a quest line on a small Island with a party going on. I was expecting more like that.. I can't member which quest it was.

Huge disappointment is a huge understatement. I stopped playing. Housing is supposed to be supplemental, not the focus. I spent 75% of my time in Skyrim questing. Crafting, downloading mods and just plain dinking around took up the other 25%. I've actually spent more time crafting than questing in TESO. This makes TESO even more ridiculous.

All the insides are copy and paste from their zones. Daggerfall Overlook is a copy/paste of the castle in Daggerfall. Serenity Estate interior is a copy/paste of Skywatch Castle. Same for Serenity Falls, copy/paste of EP.

It's actually very, very, very lazy on ZoS end. The fact that the most pricey buildings in the game(gold wise & crown store wise) are literally the same exact layout as another building in the game is extremely lazy.

That they have the audacity to put a real life price tag on a building that they simply right clicked on in another city, selected 'copy' went over to an area, right clicked and selected paste. Yes, this is what they did.

Yeah, exactly. I was expecting a unique house design. It's all copy past from existing buildings.

This is probably the biggest offense with Homestead. These prices might be more reasonable if the housing was custom made for Homestead and were actually unique.

Ok so you mean to tell me that Zos is making people pay upwards 100's of dollars for a home/s that has already been in the game? That is insane!

I didn't think I would like housing as much as I do, its actually a really great addition to the game and there is no reason they can't add storage later down the line. So far housing has been a blast.

The limited use of the houses is why I haven't bought one yet.
I've seen a few people with the housing titles you get. Unless its a 'guild house', the player was rather gullible to dump that on something that is rather pointless.

If we get housing storage, I may buy the house just outside rawl kha. Otherwise its not worth crowns or gold.

Well, I guess if you don't enjoy housing: don't do it. We say it time and time again, but not everything will appeal to everyone.

I for one am thoroughly enjoying Homestead thus far.

This is the most absurd statement. Most of the people want to do housing...the way it is implemented just makes it not worth it.

You basically said they implemented something sub par so don't do it. How about they do it RIGHT. The copy and paste had to be the most lazy way to do it I can humanly think of other than NOT doing it. Hell, they might as well not in its current state.

Also, if the copy/paste ones you can buy with in game gold are $150 real money. How much will the unique one be? But your are right...my choice was to not participate in something that could have been great.

You are right, people are not forced to buy a house. But i was waiting for this update for a long time, I like having your own house, decorate it but it feels so useless and boring. And that makes it a huge disappintment for me.

I never had hopes that they would do a good job after the really poor job they did with the barber shop, but it is what it is have to make the best out of a pile of bantha poodoo you can or you just let it go, it is not needed to play the game but maybe down the road they will improve upon it, but don't hold your breath. /sigh

I normally love building and decorating. Back in RIFT, I was a bit of a dimensionaholic when it came to building vast and sprawlingly detailed creations in their fully customizable instanced housing system.

Alas, that game has turned into something I can't enjoy anymore, so here I am.

I'm loving playing this game, especially since One Tamriel. The less Elder Scrolls feels like a stupid WoW-inspired MMO, the happier I've been with it...and I'm pretty happy with the gameplay now.

    This housing situation though...well.

The vendors need a much better array of basic, decent decorations that are, frankly, dirt cheap.

Why? For the same reason Costco gives out free samples, you dunderheads - to get the taste in your mouth and make you feel good about wanting to buy into more than just a taste.

Let people go nuts with cheaply decorating their places with a good array of simple, straightforwards furnitures and lightning fixtures, and they'll get invested in decorating. They'll care if their place is -pretty-. They'll then be far more tempted to work hard at getting the swank recipes and achieving the exotic achievements and throwing coins at the cash shop for sweet, rich decorations.

But that's not being done here at all. The vendors have, frankly, trash on them. Literally ground trash, some verdigris, a stool and a coffee table.

The various crafting vendors have a truly anemic array of recipes for sale that invariably require materials that drop with embarrassingly low frequency.

And to cap off the failure?

Even the drastically overpriced cash shop decoration offerings are just shotgunned at random through varieties, with no apparent concern given to rhyme, reason or consistency at all.

All in all, it feels like a good idea executed poorly, with shortsighted greed leading the charge.

I'm not impressed. This is not thrilling me.

I'ma go back to questing and hoarding these pittance of deco mats and see if this doesn't improve in the months to come, because if it doesn't, I guarantee you here and now I'm never going to waste my time caring about it all that much.

    It isn't worth it.

I know that the starter apartments are free and not supposed to be big, but my gosh I can't even see in there, first or third person. I don't think a bed would fit if I ever get or make a bed. This is supposed to be an Inn room, not a prison cell. At least make it big enough to put a bed in and a basic table and chair to sit at. This is making me feel like going back to EQ2 so I can have fun in my houses there. Even the starter noob houses in that game give you enough space to actually decorate and feel like a nice appartment (their starter homes have 2 floors, and yes they do sell special homes on the cash shop, but they at least give us a decent space and lots of easy to get decorations to get us addicted). That's bad when a game makes you feel like playing another game.

    This.

And, honestly, it might be old school of me, but I would have preferred neighborhoods instead of the instanced housing. It was fun in say, DAOC, to horse around the neighborhoods looking at how everyone decorated, how guilds and friends had whole areas dedicated to them and all decorated cohesively.
Plus having our own vendor merchant tied to our house and have it all searchable at a master vendor was brilliant.

The primary question in my mind is:

Is there actually any storage space (like a vault, stash, etc. to hold loot and crafting materials and whatever else) inside these houses?

If not, they are completely unworthy of my time, and I'm sure many others feel very much the same.

There are several things that are disappointing about the housing as it currently stands, but the housing editor is among the worst features. This was brought to the attention of ZOS on the PTS threads multiple times, but I see they did not improve the editor at all. It's still impossible to judge the scale of an object from the preview. The directional controls to move objects are still awful and there is still no way to directly move an object up or down. The align control still is terrible. The 'T' control still doesn't make any sense. Moving objects around is still tied to the first-person view of your character so that the character can't move around the object.

In short, the editor is shockingly bad and ZOS made no improvements even though they were told of these problems multiple times over the past month.

I did buy a house but am frustrated with it already.

Not everything turns out the way you hope. You better get used to it. That's life. Complain all you want. Even if they make improvements to the system, the way eveyone on the forums is moaning, you all sound like something new disappoints you every week. [SNIp]

I bought a house. I decorated it a bit. Getting lots of furniture will be a grind and expensive. I don't care. I'll be playing for at least a year. I don't need a fully furnished house within 24 hours of feature launch. Everyone needs to put on their big boy pants and stop complaining so much. The system isn't what you hoped. Adapt to it, constructively help improve it, or walk away.

It's almost like it's something new... what with the scarcity and limited options... Almost like it was a basic groundwork for them to add future, possibly themed, improvements... I don't why I feel like that though, it's not like it JUST got released.

Wait until l the market becomes saturated with single beds, desks, and lamps.

Early adopters expecting the first version to be the best is surprising to me.

Exactly. This is only the foundation and they can expand upon it, and it's cool that the loot table has been expanded so much with new crafting stuff and fully made furniture. I looted a really nice painting early. Eventually the market will be saturated where you can easily furnish your smaller home or find the materials needed for crafting.

Should've just let us buy a plot of land with gold/crown and allowed us to build our own houses.

We're essentially just paying for the housing editor... since everything else is just a copy and paste. Zo$ charging $100 + for the mansions wasn't much of a surprise to me though.

Your lecture is seriously insulting to everyone who has raised issues and concerns with housing over the past month while it was on PTS and so far since release. Most of the issues/concerns are legitimate and are raised with the intention of providing feedback to ZOS so the housing features can be as good as possible for the benefit of all players and even ZOS, itself. If ZOS didn't want feedback and player input, they would not have a PTS. So the only "dysfunctional" people I see around here are those like you who want everyone to sit down and shut up even if they have worthwhile things to say about game features.
