Obviously they learned from past mistakes with sorcerer pets. By making the summon an ultimate, it isn't taking up valuable ability bar real estate. Granted you still lose an ultimate, but that's preferable to taking up 2-4 ability slots for sorc pets

The bear summon is only ONE animal companion. They have another tree with other animals that might take up slots.

I'm going to guess that the other abilities in the pet tree won't be permanent summons, but limited duration dot style abilities

Why would you guess that?

I can't wait to see this ice massive explosion thing showed in the trailer. I suppose it will be an ultimate of the winter's embrace skill line. I'm sure it will look great.
Other than that, in the trailer we also saw the warden casting an ice wall being more a defensive/protective skill.
But I'm not sure how the upcoming changes to frost staves (frost tanks) will affect this ice-related skill line of the warden class. Will they be a viable DDs using an ice magic (including frost staves) or not... Of course the warden class might have some passives which increase their dmg done with ice magic but still... heavy attacking - as a DD - with frost staves will taunt all the mobs
I assume there's little to no information out at the moment? Do we know anything about the nature and pet trees other than the bear ultimate?
Kinda hoping the nature tree gets some healing spells so we have a contender with templar for healing. Also hoping the pet tree has a bee swarm attack.
Looking forward to finally having a Druid like class in eso. I quit playing a year ago but this might just bring me back.
From the Closer Look article
He uses a depiction of Sleet Storm, one of the new Warden abilities. This ability creates a hailstorm around the caster to deal damage and reduces the impact of incoming attacks for the Warden and his allies
Seems like the Warden may be a tank class rather than a healer. Makes sense tho: the class name, frost magic, frost staves,...

That would be nice for healing competition of course it could end up being tanky and I like the bee swarm attack idea lol.
The bear ultimate doesn't seem too bad but it would be nice while in ultimate state the bear is out for a good amount of time (say 30 secs) and did certain attacks from the hot bar. Like while using abilities from bar 1, you could flip to bar 2 and us abilities that suit/are from the bear, like charge, multi slash, nock down, pelting coat (shield), hibernating heal etc. Come to think of it that would be good dps lol.

As far as we know, the bear is a toggle that lasts until it dies or you unsummon it.

Sounds defensive yea, but sounds like it also will put out a decent annount of damage. Like a sorcs hurricane on steriods.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if there was a damage morph and a defensive morph.makeumrage wrote: »That "ice wall" is sleet storm.

Hell, I would be even less surprised if they made the Warden come out on top in several roles (DPS and healing, for example) right after release. It doesn't have to be by much, just enough for the min-maxers to say that it's the top dog. After that, they'll gradually reduce the Warden's power to bring it more in line with the other classes.
