RPG path - What brought you to ESO?

Skyrim introduced me to Morrowind, Oblivion and finally ESO (in this order). I disliked Morrowind, despite everyone's opinion about it, Oblivion was awesome, considering some nasty bugs but ESO sounded incredible at first, now is the most regretful decision I ever made.

No, I'm not leaving, retiring, selling account and you can't have my stuff.
I am the very model of a scientist Salarian, I've studied species Turian, Asari, and Batarian.
I'm quite good at genetics (as a subset of biology) because I am an expert (which I know is a tautology).
My xenoscience studies range from urban to agrarian, I am the very model of a Scientist Salarian.

So, I'm probably going to miss a few in here and I know some of these are slightly out of order.
Escape Velocity Escape Velocity: Override Fallout Deus Ex Diablo II (Switch from Mac to PC) Fallout 2 Arcanum Neverwinter Nights Escape Velocity: Nova Planescape Torment Spellforce (somewhere in here) Deus Ex 2 System Shock 2 Morrowind Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines Guild Wars Gothic II Oblivion Gothic Titan Quest Shadowrun (SEGA Genesis version. Ironically, this is probably also the first true RPG I ever played.) Neverwinter Nights 2 Bioshock Drakensang Jade Empire Two Worlds The Witcher Alpha Protocol Mass Effect Fallout 3 Divinity II Dawn of War II (Yes, it is an action RPG... and an RTS) Dragon Age: Origins Star Trek Online Mass Effect 2 Fallout: New Vegas Dragon Age II Skyrim The Secret World Mass Effect 3 Dark Souls Dark Souls II Shadowrun: Returns Elder Scrolls Online Dragon Age: Inquisition (ugh) Divinity: Original Sin Wasteland 2 Pillars of Eternity Grim Dawn (I think this might have been earlier, it was in early access for a long time.) The Witcher III (No, I never really played TW2.) Fallout 4 (I'd stick this in the pile with Far Cry 3 and 4 of being more shooter than RPG, but anyway.) Salt & Sanctuary Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Tom Clancy's The Division

Baldur's Gate hasn't aged gracefully. There is the remastered version which helps, some, but AD&D is a very dated system. If you're going to dig up one of the Infinity Engine games, I'd actually point at Planescape: Torment. It's a very meaty game. If you want to get a feel for that style of game, Pillars of Eternity is probably your best option. It is extremely good, and faithful to the feel of the Infinity engine games while avoiding a lot of the stuff that feels horribly dated when you dig up the originals.

I played Arena but I didn't own Arena - I played it at a friend's house. At the time we had an Amiga rather than a PC, and I don't believe any TES games ever came out for the Amiga (or if they did I was unaware of it at the time), so I never had the chance to play Daggerfall. I had the opportunity to play Morrowind, but the game was so freaking ugly I couldn't bring myself to do it. Morrowind may have been a good game, but graphically it was absolutely hideous because it was still in that transition era where true 3D graphics were possible but only using pretty rough and basic shapes for the models and low detail maps. I could never get past how awful things like this looked:
    600px-MW-npc-Addhiranirr.jpg
Give me non-3D graphics over that garbage any day...

By the time of Oblivion the ability to do 3D graphics had improved enough that the game looked decent (although in some ways still graphically worse than some isometric games, in other ways better). I've tried several times to start a game of Morrowind, and I just can't do it. When and if Skywind is ever finished I'll be happy to play it. Or actually, what ever happened with Morroblivion? Does anyone know if that was properly finished?

Daggerfall is, quite possibly, the worst game in the series. Yes, worse than Battlespire, and probably worse than the phone games.

Wow, based on the current lists it appears that I was the only one that played Shadowbane... If I was the only one, you think I would have been ganked in that game a lot less.

That was the one that got me hooked on MMOs, but I started my RPG love on paper.

I remember seeing boxes. Back then, I was repulsed by the idea of a subscription, though. Honestly, thinking back, I think ESO is the only MMO I've played with a mandatory subscription fee for any length of time, that I didn't have an LTS for.

Arcanum was such a fantastic, and overlooked, game. Ironically, it was also ahead of it's time, given the setting and tone. If it'd come out in 2012 or so, the steampunk aesthetic would have made it a darling.

For years i only had the printed manual sitting on my shelve (the original game has long been missing) and then GOG re-released it not too long ago as part of a package so i got myself another copy.

I actually play it from time to time now and it's still a fun game ...

As the game population lowered with the mass exodus to WoW, I simply gave up and moved to single player games. After Skyrim, I generally made the transition to Teso since it was the first MMO I knew of...there were others I now knowing but I did not know this at the time

There are a lot of games in my past that I would never mention, out of just the desire for no one to ever mention them. However, the original Dungeons and Dragons and Advanced Dungeons and Dragons is where I got my start. I got a lot of use out of my 2nd Edition AD&D (thanks Zeb!) but I preferred to write my own adventures, so did not buy into the TSR game worlds and adventures (sorry Lawrence).

Star Frontiers was great. Well, the actual system was kind of clumsy, but it was such a cool setting and everything that it was just a ton of fun.

Later when I played AD&D 2e I got into the Spelljammer setting for it, and that setting had several races that were just the Star Frontiers races (TSR did both games so there weren't any IP issues with doing that) with different names and somewhat different backgrounds etc to fit in the Spelljammer setting:

I remember Spelljammer and Darksun and all those TSR expansions . Ravenloft was my favorite when it got released as an expansion area . I was working GenCon back then to help promote those . My Demo of Darksun didn't go so well as I had too much a bottle of peach schnapps the lady gave me the night before an threw up a lot in my hotel room in Wisconsin . Those were fun days ...

Totally agree. It was a brilliantly done game.

I still have a copy of it somewhere, may have to dig it out and see if I can get it working on a modern PC.

Jsst to mention two PnP RPGs I haven't seen mentioned yet that are IMO absolutely fantastic (and would probably do well as MMORPG conversions) Skyrealms Of Jorune (one of the most original games I have ever played) and Fading Suns (Dune meets Star Wars meets Pax Imperia meets World Of Darkness).

Pokemon, starting with Red. Most of The Legend of Zelda. Dragon Quest, especially VIII. Also SWTOR. Then during the late spring of 2014 my partner suggested picking up Skyrim because I would like the character creation and growth aspects. At some point we also bought Oblivion. Then we picked up ESO during the Steam holiday sale that December and we've played as a team ever since.

for the past 10 years I was a massive cod fan. I tried branching out a couple of times. need for speed. battlefield. but never was comfortable with RPG games. could never get in to them.

I got my ps4 and destiny shortly after it's release. made a lot of friends via fb groups and such and a lot moved on to ESO which I followed a couple months after, after hesitating whether or not I might actually enjoy it.

needless to say, eso is love, eso is life.

I get into one game exclusively and stay there for years before moving on to a new one. So list is short:

    Baldurs Gate I
    Diablo II
    Baldurs Gate II
    Oblivion
    Skyrim
    ESO

What brought me to ESO was its sheer scale and the luxury of not babysitting a tempermental load of mods (Oblivion & SKyrim). The fact that ESO is MP is a drawback I deal with.
