Adding mount, pet, and costume drops

For current/future content, would you like to see some in-game exclusives along the lines of mounts, pets, and costumes that you can only acquire through running said content?

The question isn't "Do you think ZOS will do this since they try to sell all of this on the Crown Store?", it's "Would you like to see it in the game?" Currently other than gold the only bait drops for re-running content over and over are dye achievements (dyes are in the Crown Store), specific motifs (motifs are also in the Crown Store), a crafting material (laurels), and specific gear sets.

Would you also like a chance at getting a mount, pet, or costume than only has a small chance to drop from running a particular group instance as well as the current types of drops? Or maybe even for certain achievements that require running lots of things such as Urgarlag's Cohort, Maj's Cohort, or Glirion's Cohort?

Any sort of rewards for simply playing the game are a good thing. There should be mounts obtainable from certain achievements. We have enough insignificant titles to be getting on with. After all, only 4 or 5 titles are worth using.

Would be neat to see but its not going to happen.

Mounts costumes and pets go in the crown store and thats how this game makes money.

Thats how it has been how it is and how it will most likely stay.

Indeed. And the formulas already exist in MMORPGs:
    • Definitely get a mount, pet, costume, or similar item for doing type of content or a particular piece of content X times (usually at least 99 or 100 times)
    • Always have a 1% to 10% chance to get mount, pet, costume or similar item each time you complete a type of content or a particular piece of content
    • Only have a 1% to 10% chance to get mount, pet, costume or similar item each time you complete a type of content or a particular piece of content during a seasonal period or during a limited time event

They already did the latter with the Witches Festival and the New Life Festival by letting people earn those hats.

Not if it's something you can only get in a group dungeon, or doing PvP. I don't have any friends who play this game, and don't particularly want to try to group with random strangers in a guild to do group dungeons.

If it's something that even solo players can get, then heck, yeah. If it's group-only-or-nothing, then NO.

You mean... like dwemer spider pet, or shrouded armor costume, or skeleton transformation or old orsinium sentry costume, or... ;)

We have pets, and costumes. The only thing lacking is mounts, and those are not gonne be likely to come seeing how they are kinda banking on crown store sales - the only one I could see is the plain brown horse showing up as quest reward, because at 10K gold, its darn fu... uhm... fugly easy to get anyhow.

Or is it just that you want -more- of those things?

I wouldn't mind more of them.

I kinda way a bit disappointed that the final artifact collector quest in Wrothgar gave you three costumes instead of a bear to ride, but I could understand that (see above about them banking on crown store profits). Same for the other themed mounts.

But when it comes to pets and costumes... most will be in the crown store, sure, but they DO put one in the game every now and then, be it getting a jackal pet when visiting Abahs landing, or a Dark Brotherhood robes costume during that questline.

And I expect they will continue to add some of them, now and then...

What I -really- would want more of are additional titles.
    Especially roleplaying-worthy titles.
Stuff like "Scholar" and "Librarian" and "Master Chef" and "Tailor" and "Bandit" and "Blacksmith" and "Big Game Hunter" and "Beggar" and "Cutpurse" and "Priest of -insert Divine name-" and "-insert Daedric Power name- Cultist" and "Lumberjack" and "Sailor" and "pirate" and "Cabin Boy" and "Graverobber" and "Nature Lover" and "Apprentice" and "Mercenary" and "Alchemist" and "Watchman" and "Adventurer" and "Hangman" and "Drunkard" and "Temple Guard" and dozends more I would take a few more minutes to think about.

And of course, I am also eager to find out if we will get nifty home decorations through in-game archievements... I mean, I'd love to have a painting for each region where we do all the questing, or stuffed heads for notable monsters slain to hang on our walls and stuff like that...

I mentioned some examples myself of this general type of thing being in game, but I am talking more about using special/rare rewards for hard to get achievements *or* that randomly drop, not just by finishing a an easy quest/questline or buying a DLC and walking into a city. Something that is like a meaningful title that you wear or ride or that follows you around to encourage players to keep playing the same content more than once with a character.

They shouldn't and they won't in my opinion, If they would do this less people will buy them from the crown store which will be missed revenue with less crown store purchases there will be less money to make DLC's and new content and they wont be making a profit of the game because simply buying the game doesn't give them really much of a profit. Besides we should be happy we get costumes from DLC quests and can buy horses in the stables for barely any gold at all. I have seen enough MMO's where they could only be obtained trough in-game purchases

Keeping people playing also makes ZOS revenue. If players get bored and quit they won't use the cash shop, and ZOS has moved toward increasing the replay value of the base game. They have plenty of things to put in the shop, they can spare a few for really hard to get/rare in-game rewards.

No to mount, pet, costume drops.

Yes to existing mount, pet, costume skin variant drops. It's an excellent way to add battle damage/ battle scars skins into the game as rewards for doing dangerous content. Or just slightly different mount and pet patterns to make them not all look exactly the same.

Minor clarification: The dyes in the store work completely differently from the ones in the game.

When you buy a dye stamp from the store it only allows you to use those 3 dyes on 1 costume (not armour) and only in the order they're shown - there is no customisation there.

Which is completely different from dyes obtained from achievements which are unlocked on your account and can be used on any armour or (if you're a subscriber) costume in any combination you like as many times as you want.

So while it's sort-of correct to say dyes are in the crown store and from achievements I don't think you can compare the two. It's not like if you don't want to do an achievement you can just go and buy the dye instead.

In my personal desires based on things current.

I'd like mounts to drop which contains one or all three of the enhanced speed, stamina, or inventory enhancements.

The artwork can vary but I honestly think there is value of a BOP mount with benefits.

In my opinion, this is a FUNDAMENTAL FLAW with eso.

They lock the most powerful gear behind the hardest content, so only the most talented and most refined players get the most powerful gear, thereby increasing the gap between themselves and average players.

This leads to an elite subset of the community crying for "harder content" because they could beat the hardest content in the game BEFORE they even got the best gear!

I'd like to contrast that with my experience in Guild Wars 1. Most of the most difficult content was achieved for "bragging rights" and VISUAL REWARDS.

For example, there was a very large multi-tiered quest zone called "The Underworld" that took many hours to complete. Near the end of the zone was the only place in the game where you could find a rare animal that you could tame. At the end of the quest was a boss that dropped a green glowing and smoking scythe.

I would love to see IN-GAME rare visual rewards that dropped from hard content and/or as rare drops from lore-friendly areas. (e.g. a special rare senche mount from Reapers March, a unique flying cliff racer pet from Deshean, etc)

Zos does a little of this, but they need to do much more imo to keep the game feeling like it did early on when I felt like it was a more "expansive" and rich experience.

Well I guess they could but they would have to create new in game content for it instead of using the crown shop stuff.

But as above poster said yes this game is far to easy to exploit almost all the time, so yeah I wouldn't bet on them adding stuff like this anytime soon if any.

I'd certainly like more pets, mounts and cosmetics to be acquired in game through play, however not as random drops. Having them as drops just promotes grinding which is a boring mechanic. Much better for them to be rewards for doing specific quest lines, or possibly from achievements (though again, that has a potential grindy problem).

    1. There are already random drops (see hats from recent festivals).
    2. I mentioned more than RNG, emphasizing linking rewards to significant achievements as opposed to buying DLC (for instance, getting 100 undaunted runs with one quest giver = undaunted mount, with another = undaunted costume, another = undaunted pet; first VMA clear = nice item other than weapon/gear; completing an Alliance PvE storyline = small something; Explorer, Master Angler, Monster Hunter = something nice).

I like the idea of having mounts and similar stuff that you can get by completing ingame content. However I don't think it should be a permanent item locked behind some rng grind. I'd prefer a temporary solution without rng like the following:
    - If you complete 7/14/21 pledges a week on a single char, you get a special reward for the next 7 days
    - If your alliance wins a campaign that you had set as home from the beginning to the end, you'll get reward for the duration of the next campaign
    - if you destroy x dolmens on y consecutive days you get a reward that lasts for y days

there are already multiple pets, costumes, polymorphs & skins which are rewarded for content/quest/achievment completion. (dlc ownership) so i fully additional ones to be added in the future

while 3 mounts can be purchased using in game currency i feel it would be nice if a mount was added, i remember when i 1st began to play and 10K was a lot of money to spend on a horse so being able to aquire one in game would be a huge help to new players.
